So iv been looking to get a used switch and tried to trade my old ps4 for one.
Today i was contacted by a person who claim to have a switch, but not the base station. He is not that good at explaining, but as far as I understood its NOT the lite version.

So im wondering, if this is the v1 or v2 and it does not have the primary station it offcource cannot connect to a tv? But does it work at all?

It could even be "v3" if you decide to go by that non-existing labeling (vanilla, ipatched and mariko being the actual ones), which no one can tell you, and of course it'll work. Handheld. Make sure it's around 50-70 bucks below selling price of a usual Switch complete with dock, since that is what you'd have to pay for a dock if you ever decided to add one

Is there any way by the markings on the handheld itself to find out what version it is?

And last but not least.
If I do get this and buy a new dock. Is it the docks serial or the handheld that wil determine if I can hack this or not :)

Consider the dock an accessory. It will charge and output the video signal of your switch, and allow you a place to sync controllers and charge controllers.

All of the "switch" is contained in the hand-held bit. There's a chart somewhere around here, I'm sure. Once you find it, you could ask the seller what the last few digits are of the serial number and that'll tell you one way or the other.

Docks can be pricey, so just be sure you're getting the right bang for the buck (look for them separately used for price comparison).

Find out what serial number it is, and compare it to this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ifBIsbTeTpk-bL1Ul9Z9ORPVX3BNH2pHlGW1Z0g8nvM/edit#gid=0
Especially the info on the right side.

The dock is just a USB hub with video out.
I can recommend the $49 Jumpgate from here: https://skullnco.com/collections/switch-gripcase
And the gripcase they sell is really nice too. I can't live without either of those accessories nowadays. I always have issues with my fingers falling asleep when playing handhelds for a long time and the gripcase helps a lot with that. The Jumpgate is small enough so it fits inside the Gripcase pouch with plenty of room to spare and makes my life a lot easier. I have been using the dock a lot and no brick, and they have promised to replace any Switch that's bricked by their dock, they also did a lot of research beforehand to figure out why some 3rd party docks were bricking Switches, so if nothing else it's one of the safest 3rd party docks to use. And has some cool designs too, like SNES and NES designs. And most importantly, it's small.

Hm so I found one. The code is: XAJ 400225 (european so not XAJ1)
So on the first site kwnage gave me it says its defenitly patches(with xaj1), possible original 2.3.0. But on the site from The Real Jdbye, it says that no patches is reported on Xaj1... So in not sure, and havent gotten the item yet to check :)
The strange thing is that the owner says she bought it "3 years ago". I figuered every switch before summer 2018 was good? Seems to be a hac-001, made in 2017. No idea about the software.

I don't get it. Is it XAJ4 or XAJ1?

Wel I dident either until you just gave me a torch... I got locked on that 1, not sure why :)
Ok then my console is unpatched yay! Does firmware/software version matter then at all as long as its that old? Seems that Homebrew and fusee gelee works on all uptil 8. But I see there are a lot more options for the switch hack than the wii u im acustom to.
Btw, thank you! :)

No it doesn't, you can hack it on any version (caveat: when a new fw version comes out, allow time for cfw/homebrew to be updated to support it - but right now you're all good).
