More Info Regarding Switch (Mariko/Lite) Mods by Team-Xecuter

ub3r1337's first impressions from a direct demo of TX upcoming new hardware mods!
SXMODS.png

ub3r1337 recently meet with TX to have them demo to him their upcoming new mods for the Switch (patched, mariko and lite). Unfortunately, he didn't get any pictures, but he says they'll be coming later on. Even so, he shared some of this new information at MaxConsole, also shown below:
First Off: It is a hardware mod. TX went back to its roots, and this solution is a device you need to install inside your Switch. :)

From what we could tell the install looks ultra simple and almost plug and play. When pushed about the install requirements, TX held back from claiming its fully solder-less, stating clearly that this particular design will always benefit from a few simple solder connections, versus the original intent of fully solder-less (at least for the classic model which is the unit we got to inspect).

In other words, a fully solder-less install is potentially possible with the classic models however it is not recommended by TX due to long term reliability concerns (we will cover this more in-depth at a later date, once we have our preview unit in our hands and put it thru some tests)

Second Point: There is one device for Patched and Mariko unit which is probably under production (see point three) and should be available soon :) They plan to release 2 devices; one for all classic versions (original, patch and mariko) and one for the Switch Lite.

Third Point: I really pushed for a release date, but TX refused to confirm anything during our meeting. From what I understood, even though it seems to be currently under production, because all sorts of things can occur in the factory during production, they will not commit to a date to me or their resellers until they are certain they can deliver on time enough stock to meet the demand.

I guess I can only respect that, this is probably why they did not announce anything yet, and we should know more once it is finally officially announced on their TX website.
At some point ub3r1337 hopes to get some pictures and videos from TX and a review unit, but we have no clue when that will happen. For now we just have to sit and wait for some more news regarding these new TX hardware mods to appear online!

Considering the nature of these teams, I wouldn't be too shocked if they blocked other CFWs at launch, then released an updating allowing to work at a later date after someone either cracked the block or enough people complain. These kinds of shady teams have no respect for community projects.

And people like you and me (specifically - MOST of us) who are hacking our consoles and playing illegally downloaded games have no respect for the companies trying to earn money. And as I've said before (just try to look up my threads if you care), don't come here and try to deny the fact that we're stealing games because we're all doing it. But sure, just throw shit around because you're such an angel. We're NOT.

Well... they are a business, and as a business they want to maximise their profit. The Modchip is probably going to be reverse engineered in a pretty short time anyways, so it would make sense to sell it to as many potential customers as possible (f.e. Atmosphere Users) before an opensource variant gets released.

I didn't deny anything nor claim to have any moral stance on piracy, you are the one putting those words in my mouth. I am actually well known for being an enthusiast with countless reasons as to why I hack my systems, most of which boils down to helping the community through efforts like answering questions, helping devs by being a knowledgeable tester, etc.. This has been my entire 10 years and never once did I claim to not be pirate nor claim anything you've accused me of. My issue with these companies stems from hatred of closed-source software, distrust in shady teams, dislike for paid shills, the misinformation or lack of information/transparency, the fact that they often use stolen code without crediting the authors, and the cult-like community that often form around these products. This has been my same stance the Gateway days and it won't change, nor will I take a moral stance on piracy.

I do hope they make the smart choice, it would at help for once and hopefully push towards finding cheaper/free methods of exploiting patched/lite systems.

If you didn't have a moral stance on piracy you wouldn't lash out against any "shady" groups as you yourself are "shady" for helping the rest of us in our effort to steal games. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. I have too much dumb things to say that nobody would agree with anyways. I'm basically just whining like a kid. I appreciate your help.

I can not stress enough that my reasons have nothing to do with piracy. I don’t have a stance on piracy. If people use my advice/help/etc. for piracy, that’s none of my concern and a choice they made. My intentions have been transparent since the M3 days when I really started helping this community. I am shady because I am morally grey but I am also transparent and honest. These companies have been shown to do things like have brick codes built into their software. These are not the same kind of shady. I do not hide my motivations, I outright state them with no hidden meaning. I can agree to disagree, but it’s within my nature to clarify any possible misinterpretations, that is the nature of a demon.

When SX OS first launched, one of the first things it could do was launch other payloads which gave indirect support to launching other CFW. Later down the line, they even released the SX Gear which allowed you to modify the boot.dat to whatever payload you wanted so the Gear and subsequently the Pro would load that payload. Last but certainly not least, the hardmod has to include support for launching their own CFW. And since all CFW are launched the same way currently, it would be surprising for TX to not, at least inadvertently, implement support for launching other CFW.

Just make a one time use hardmod that burns the pkc_disable fuse, then you get unpatchable untethered coldboot without needing special hardware installed

While this incident has no excuse, it is also a far cry from your previous statement of them being likely to "block other CFWs until a later update". Not only would there be little motivation to do so if this is a hardmod (where the $$$ is made, so where you piggyback from there is your business), but nothing they've done to this point would indicate such an action. How about you wait for them to shit the bed before you start your usual doom and gloom prognostication about for-profit vendors. I'm sure you'll have to plenty to complain about if/when they implement clone blocking code (which OSS CFW would almost assuredly be unimpacted by if there's payload support).

These reasons aren't connected to each other. My reason to believe that teams like these might block other CFW is purely just a guess that I personally don't see out of the realm of possibility. They aren't just selling a hardmod, they are also selling a ROM loader and it shouldn't surprise me if they blocked other CFW for the sake of trying to a little extra profit. At the same time, I also really hope my pessimistic guess is wrong. What you quoted is just part of a reason why I don't like teams like the TX Team, Gateway Team, etc. and from another conversation. Something like a brick code is just one of many reasons why I don't like nor trust teams like these. It does play into the distrust factor, which is a small part of why I tend to be so pessimistic but it's not motivation to my previous comment.

God the baseless pessimsim regarding this being real is in the literal sense; insane. It's fueled by hatred. They've always delivered. Why would they lie now? The bias and hatred toward SX is ridiculous. It's like the shills find ONE thing, and then take even the tiniest thing and make it negative because they just hate SX. What childishness.

Grow up, guys. Jesus.

This has caught my eye but for one reason… That the new chip in the new switch and switch the light has higher stock clock speeds and then a regular X one because of the new silicon. So I wonder what a “Overclocked” switch light would perform like

The PCV limitation would still be a thing in HOS, so max would still be 1785mhz/921mhz/1600mhz CPU/GPU/MEM.
But if one were to get linux running, the max would be 2091mhz/1.2ghz/2133mhz CPU/GPU/MEM :smugpepe:

And 3 (three) minutes of battery life.
