Just got a dsi and its on 1.4.1 ive isntalled hiya. Wondering if its worth updating to latest fw or am i not missing anything by staaying on 1.4.1?

also the card i'm using is 32gb i read that hiya doesn't work properly if the sd is bigger than 2gb but it seems to be fine on my console is this something that has been fixed or will i likely encounter issues

See for yourself:

DSi updates did pretty much nothing besides blocking flashcarts.

If you don't have bought any DSiWare when the shop still was functional you wish to re-download… there is no reason to update the DSi. (Access to the shop requires latest version). Updating SD-NAND would most likely fail anyway: https://dsi.cfw.guide/installing-hiyacfw (Read inside the red box).

Sometimes
the normal system menu (Launcher) on SDNAND (HiyaCFW) fails loading when there is more than 2GB free space on SD. Sometimes it worked for me anyway. Filling the SD with dummy files if there is too much free space solves the "An error has occurred" problem. TWiLight Menu++ works in any case (no matter how big the SD is and how much free memory it has).

Okay thankyou. Just wanted to check since I dont wanna boot striaght to twilight menu because I'd rather run games from my flashcart so I can use cheats. Also if I launch roms via Twilight menu are they able to use DSi enhanced features if they have them?

DSi mode doesn't work yet, so no.

This happends:
1. I launch nitrotracker v0.4.
2. The nitrotracker v0.4 splash screen appears, i click the A button
3. and the black screen appears.
I would be so grateful, thanks!! :yaynds::D

Is there a known way to properly dump the DSi BIOS?

The option in fwtool 2.0 does not seem to give the correct output.
  • DSIBIOS7.ROM differs from offset 0x33544 on for a few bytes – missing some data (has zeros instead) compared to the version found online.
  • DSIBIOS9.ROM differs from offset 0x34804 up to 0x35827 and from 0x39201 to 0x43495. Both parts are also zeroed out compared to the version found online.
The (incomplete?) dumps from fwtool do not allow No$gba to work properly with DSi emulation. It boots to SysNAND but crashes when trying to start something like System Settings.

Am I doing something wrong here? I also tried fwtool version 1.6.1 with the same results. Both times I started the tool from unlaunch.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit:
====

Searching the web a bit more I found statements claiming the upper halves of the two BIOS are not accessible via software. Access to these parts is supposedly disabled very early in the boot process.
Maybe the 2|3DS contain the full data somewhere?
Or is this getting the BIOS fully dumped in software currently impossible?

The files found online contain a lot of 0x00 bytes in the upper halves as well – but there is some real data… more than I could get by dumping BIOS with fwtool.

Please tell everyone and make a thread (if neccessary), that uninstalling UNLAUNCH is SAFE and not as HORRIBLE as THE WARNING :)
oh yes, and i wonder if anyone could change the UNLAUNCH background. The first reason i very curious before about uninstalling it, because i feel a bit "annoyed" with that "dark" background :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: . I wonder if i have another DSi or DSi XL to install an UNLAUNCH on it permanently so i can run my DSiWare like Dr Mario Express :ha:.

Thanks !

Unlaunch is developed by “nocash” as closed source software. He is the only one that could change unlaunch without a good amount of reverse engineering.
I would also like to have some changes:
  • No background picture at all for better readability.
  • Making some patches optional.
However it is nocash who decides about this! And not some random people complaining in a forum. It is a simple choice: Take unlaunch as it is… or leave it.
======

Being not a developer and not fully understanding the underlying software/facts/”mechanisms” I normally compensate my missing knowledge with a sometimes insane amount of testing: Trial and error for hours and days. After the testing I dare to express mildly educated statements and opinions. When it comes to the DSi my poor soldering skills prevent me from using this method (I don’t know of any possibilities for unbricking DSi without soldering.)

General statements like “Doing ‘X’ is totally safe!!” are a little dangerous in my opinion. In case of DSi and unlaunch it might actually be true for the average user as the only commonly used software that actually writes to the real NAND-chip is unlaunch itself. Letting the unlauch installer do it’s “magic” and have the process fully reversed afterwards does not seem to carry many risks (other than turning off in the wrong millisecond because of empty battery).

If more modifications have been done to SysNAND, especially to Launcher itself, uninstalling unlaunch might actually be a death sentence for a DSi – much like uninstalling B9S on 3DS after having console unique data modified or having replaced vital components with custom versions (menu, font).
On one of my DSi consoles I have the suspicion that running the uninstaller might in fact lead to a fullbrick (having done more modification to the SysNAND)
======

I still advise against uninstalling unlaunch because I can’t find any important downsides in keeping it. Once configured the average user never has to see the picture again and when used in conjunction with TWiLight Menu++ the patches done to launcher are not a problem either.

i know, i just thought if Robz is one of people behind the nocash

Did you call me?
RECENTLY (whoops, i forgot the English tho), we found people who afraid to uninstall UNLAUNCH because of its warning :(
i have read a thread about RELAUNCH, a tool to uninstalling UNLAUNCH which is rejected by many experts, and they (the experts) told us that uninstalling UNLAUNCH via menu is SAFE than using RELAUNCH
i dont blame the RELAUNCH creator, i know, he just want to help people who afraid uninstalling their UNLAUNCH

General statements like “Doing ‘X’ is totally safe!!” are a little dangerous in my opinion. In case of DSi and unlaunch it might actually be true for the average user as the only commonly used software that actually writes to the real NAND-chip is unlaunch itself.
of course, the thread is fully mentioned about some important warning like :
"make sure your sysNAND has never been changed" <-- by this one, people who wondering how will ask if their sysNAND has been changed or not
"make sure to plug your DS charger in"
etc...

If more modifications have been done to SysNAND, especially to Launcher itself, uninstalling unlaunch might actually be a death sentence for a DSi – much like uninstalling B9S on 3DS after having console unique data modified or having replaced vital components with custom versions (menu, font).

i too, have never messing around with the system,
i install UNLAUNCH because i wondering how cool the homebrews are, and use them without UNLAUNCH is difficult for me

i just want someone expert explain the thing to make sure before uninstalling UNLAUNCH, how to do it. People that use UNLAUNCH at least, need this kind of thread
(why TH you dont make yourself? I dont know, im too afraid,to create a thread because i dont have fully knowledge about UNLAUNCH inside)

sorry if my thought is hurt someone, i just wonder if there's someone do that thing. Not today, but someday if this kind of thread is really, really necessary

sorry my english is terrible, hope you can understand

*Smashed me to the Ground* :D

I can not oppose or say anything except that @KleinesSinchen has very strong Arguments that speak against the Uninstalling of Unlaunch.
Your Arguments may also apply to a certain "Target Group" who should then leave the Uninstallation as far as possible.
I definitely say yes for the Uninstallation if the SysNand has not been modified (too much...).

Thank you.:)

From the dsi.cfw.Guide:
https://dsi.cfw.guide/faq

Q: Is there a safe way to remove Unlaunch?

A: Yes, Unlaunch v1.5 and higher’s installer can uninstall Unlaunch. Keep in mind that this may result in an irrecoverable brick if you have installed any arbitrary DSiWare to your system NAND, or have otherwise messed with system files.:)

Unlaunch can be configured what to load for holding each button (A), (B), (X), (Y) or no button while turning on… or what to load in case of error (like SD not found).

Holding (A) and (B) while turning on is hardcoded → load filemenu.

Open filemenu and define what to load in each case as you want.

I tried this and holding A and B does not load the filemenu.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I there a possibility to get unlaunch reset with the basic files or something. I don't know how to exactly explain this.
