Hardware custom charger

i was thinking about making a custom usb 3ds charger so i could use it more by carrying a powerbak, what worries me the most would be the charger being way to out of spec and frying the powerbank charging circuit, or 3ds battery, my question is, can the voltage and intensity difference do any real damage? my powerbank is just 5v with an option between 1 and 2 amps, while my 3ds charger is 4.6v at 0.9 amps

You've actually measured that or are just going off the label?
It's just nominal (the same way regular lithium [cobalt] rechargeables are 3,7 or 3,8 or 3,6 V), it's well established the in-console charging electronics accept 5 V fine :)

There's a good chance they're the same thing, written in a way to make clear to the noob it has a maximum output of 3 A... and indeed the current rating of any* power supply is just a maximum supported, the equipment provides the load it wants to and generally@ it doesn't matter what it is as long as it's under that maximum :)

@ in practice most power banks, unregulated power bricks, older switching power supplies, ... do not work ideally or at all at very high or low loads, but a quality 5 V source will not be an issue for this project

* actually that's any (theoretical) constant voltage and real-world approximations, as there are constant-current power sources and other kinds, but the typical battery and phone/PC/console power bricks are constant voltage

label, i did however measure both ports on the powerbank, and sure enough one will not go above 1a, thanks for answering my question
