What were your favorite games from this past decade?

games_of_the_decade.jpg

As 2019 comes to a close, so does the decade. The past ten years have provided some of the best that gaming has ever had to offer, beginning with the tail-end of the seventh generation, and closing out right as companies have announced successors to their eighth generation hardware. What better way to celebrate the end of a decade than reminiscing and remembering some of the best of the best?

So, that begs the question; what were your top ten favorites games that released from 2010 all the way to 2019? We’ll be taking a community vote, to figure out the GBAtemp community’s essential and most-loved video games from this decade.

To clarify, games that were given a re-release or cosmetic remaster shouldn’t be considered. For example, Valkyria Chronicles released originally in 2008, but received a PC port in 2014, and a 1080p remaster for the PlayStation 4 in 2016. Neither of these newer versions of the game added new content, outside of graphical improvements, and are essentially the same game with a new coat of paint. If, however, a game was ported to a new engine, remade from the ground-up, or had substantial changes made or content added (Ratchet & Clank, Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia, etc) then it’s fair game. If you're confused as to when a game released, you can always check its release date on Wikipedia! (note: count the initial release date in the west, not a delayed PC port that came out the following year, or localizations that released one year in NA, but multiple years later in EU/AU).

Example:
2010: Fallout New Vegas
2011: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
2012: Persona 4: Golden
2013: Fire Emblem: Awakening
2014: Danganronpa 2
2015: Rocket League
2016: Superhot VR
2017: Sonic Mania
2018: Dead Cells
2019: The Division 2

This gives us a chance to have some fun, discussing some of our favorite games, explaining why we loved them, while reflecting on the previous decade. Then we can pit all the years against each other, to figure out which Pokemon game is going to win this vote, because let's face it, Pokemon always wins! Have fun!

Can't people follow basic instructions it clearly says list Yr top game of each year in last decade and bloody hell thers even an example
Or maybe they deliberately ignored the instructions cause... how do you expect people to pick only one game as their "top game" of "X" year?

So, so, so many great games came out this decade.
2010: Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver
2011: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
2012: Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (someone vs me on dream trampoline I dare you)
2013: Animal Crossing New Leaf or Pokemon X and Y
2014: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
2015: Dragon Ball Xenoverse (Just Cause 3 a close second)
2016: Stardew Valley
2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2018: Red Dead Redemption 2
2019: I haven't purchased a single new release this year, but Planet Zoo is looking really promising and will be the first game I buy come the Steam winter sale.

So many awesome games came out this decade. I really hope we get the same calibre of games in the 2020s.

2010: Minecraft (Ik, 2009 but it didnt even get out of beta until 2011)
2011: Portal 2
2012: Rhythym Heaven Fever
2013: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
2014: GTA V (came out the year before but those versions look like a hot mess compared to the Ps4/Xb1 Version, also I need animal crossing on the list)
2015: Super Mario Maker
2016: Planet Coaster
2017: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
2018: Tetris effect
2019: Dreams (PS4, technically only early access but still amazing)

Honorable Mentions (Some even the wrong decade lol)

Super Mario Galaxy
Plants vs. Zombies
Undertale
Persona 5
Pikmin
Superhot
Rocket League
Spiderman PS4
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
and (clearly the best title ever)... Bubble Bobble 4 Friends. Anybody remember that one? It's not even out in the US until next year, I'd have to import from Europe.

Fun fact, I had to look up most of the even years because I couldn't think of anything.

It's both easy and tough for me.

Easy because I make yearly lists of my favorite games of that year. Tough because I hardly ever compare those outside of the year, and it only being incidental that I play a game that released the same year (what? It's not like you never watch movies released in earlier years :P ).

So...when making this post, I had no idea how many games I'd have to knock out due to them being released earlier...and apparently I have quite some droughts in some years.

Anyhow: after some faffing and selecting, here are my best games per year:

2010: Super Mario Galaxy 2
2011: plants vs zombies
2012: stealth bastard deluxe
2013: Rayman legends
2014: Rocksmith 2014 remastered (okay, the remaster thing was later, but ey...it counts)
2015: Ori and the blind forest
2016: Inside
2017: Cook serve delicious 2 / Race for the galaxy (they're both so good I can't just pick one)
2018: Celeste
2019: either Shards of infinity or Mystic vale...I'll tell you when I make my own yearly list (ey...I don't want to ruin the enormous anticipation for my own yearly list :tpi:)

And to those who care: my nominees:
super mario galaxy 2 (2010)
kirby epic yarn (2010)
plants vs zombies (2011)
Rayman origins (2011)
anno 2070 (2011)
Portal 2 (2011)
Zombiiu (2012)...yeah: suck on it, haters. I LOVE this game! B-)
stealth bastard deluxe (2012)
walking dead (season 1) (2012)
torchlight 2 (2012)
cook serve delicious (2012)
Rogue legacy (2013)
Rayman legends (2013)
rocksmith 2014 (remastered) (2014)
Monument valley (2014)
Captain Toad (2015)
ori and the blind forest (2015)
duet: premium (2016)
Inside (2016)
cook serve delicious 2 (2017)
opus magnum (2017)
mr shifty (2017)
race for the galaxy (2017)
Frostpunk (2018)
Celeste (2018)
Hexologic (2018)
Shards of infinity (2019)
Mystic vale (2019)
