Seeings as we're all supposed to be dead in less than 12 years why is anyone making long term plans for the next upcoming decades? My statements about the carbon imprint of cars were related to right now and as of right now they have a larger carbon imprint than gas gusslers do. I've not driven a car for 20 years and I've done so by my own choice as I don't want to be one of the most contributing factors to man made climate change. If we got rid all of the passenger cars and relied on city buses for local transit (no Uber, fuck Uber), rental trucks for moving property and big rigs for moving goods we'd remove a large majority of the carbon being created. Needless to say none of these buses, trucks or big rigs need to run on gas either.
So I assume with your "people still need" comment that there's going to be plenty of "but I" excuses to why people refuse to admit they're willingly and generously causing most of the carbon gases being put into the environment. If the world was really going to end in less than 12 years you would think that making personal sacrifices like walking more and travelling less would be a very small thing to ask of the general population. However, just like the scum bag politicians that say they can fix global warming with the the "give me your money" lies, yet own property that produces more carbon than small cities do, most people don't have any real desire to change anything in their own lives. They just bitch online with no intention on doing anything and then think that voting for people that have no intention on doing anything either will somehow fix the problem.
Whatever happens there will have to be a slow transition, because the world isn't going to end in less than 12 years and people either can't afford to buy all electric cars or people would refuse to give up their cars. I don't see the latter happening, you know, people giving up their cars (because that would just make sense), but in the future when we replace dirty energy production with more cleaner energy that has less of an environmental impact the carbon footprint of electric vehicles will be drastically reduced. Although, if we just slowly got rid of the cars instead we'd have results that produce much less carbon then keeping them around.
