So... I haven't been around for a hot minute. Like over a year haha. Any of my past buddies still around that can point me in the right direction to CFW my switch? I'm not even sure where to start these days!

TIA

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

The guide pretty much covers everything.

Except getting games. You're on your own there.

One thing that's very different now with the Switch than any other hackable Nintendo console is that it's very very easy to get banned. I didn't even bother hacking until just the other day because in that past while some better safeguard solutions (like emuNAND and 90DNS) have come about at last. Basically, if you don't want to get banned you have to put your console into airplane mode and never go online. If you ever go online with homebrew you will be banned. The only safeguards are covered in the guide. You can use 90DNS to block communication to Nintendo servers with DNS IP address entries or say use an emuNAND that never goes online and is always in airplane mode and used solely for homebrew and leave your sysNAND legit and never tainted. A ban is a console ban and if it ever happens your whole Switch is useless online (eShop, multiplayer, etc) and you'll need another whole system if you want to continue online use. Also, if you accidentally go online and get banned in your emuNAND, your sysNAND will be banned as well because it's a console ban and every console has a unique identifier whether you're using emuNAND or sysNAND.
Is that guide you linked "official"? Comparing to plailect from the 3DS era?

There's this guide too which plailect links to because his is outdated, but halfway through it I ran into problems and inconsistencies with what the guide was telling me and couldn't get anywhere so I assumed it was outdated as well and went with the earlier mentioned guide which I see a lot of people sharing as well. No issues at all with it, so I favour that one.

There's no "Freeshop" feature to download directly from Nintendo's servers like you can with the Wii U (and used to be able to with the 3DS) if that's what you're thinking. They've got that all locked up tight now.

Multiplayer is out of the question AFAIK as any online activity or mere presence with homebrew or pirated games would result in an instant ban. Don't even bother.

Thanks. I'll ask around a bit as well and see what's best for me. Appreciate the info!

Don't forget the sig patches ;)
Thanks! I've been MIA so long I don't know what half that stuff is lol. I can figure it out though from the repos etc. Thanks man!
EDIT: Is there a comprehensive list of hackable serials?

Is it possible to transfer save data between two switches locally (via lan/wifi but not connected to the internet itself) without using any hacks? or does Nintendo's built in save transfer feature only work while online (specifically via contacting nintendo's ip addresses)?

hi, I just bought a an unpatched switch with system version 8.1.0, is it hackable? can I update to latest system version and hack the switch

another thing is that I bought a 64gb sandisk memory card (that support switch according to the label), but every time I tried to format it on PC it gives error that the size is low for fat32, I tried using different format program, and the only one worked was sandisk own format program but it says the size is only 1MB, is the memory card is corrupted, becuase I don't want to update the Switch and format the card using it.

Any unpatched unit is hackable because it is hacked via the RCM exploit which is before the firmware and operating system and anything Nintendo has control over. Firmware doesn't enter into it if your unit is unpatched. I only hacked recently and I was on 9.0.1.

Hmm, ok, interesting. One final thing then for now
Let's say I had access to a second switch. Could I trade a Pokemon using local communication to it, use THAT switch's Pokemon save to clone, then trade the clones to the first switch's save and be fine on the first switch's save for online and such?
Only if you do not go online with the first console.

An unpatched Switch relies on a firmware-agnostic exploit. It also sounds like your SD card is fake. Test it with FakeFlashTest.

If I put a CFW on my Switch just to transfer/backup saves (some games I have aren't compatible with the cloud save for switch online...) can I then just let the OFW (original firmware I think?) run the next time and not get banned? Especially if I maybe use a different SD card.

Based off serial my switch should be Fusée Gelée capable, and I don't mind the occasional RCM boot via jig (IE no hard mod or auto-rcm loader) since this isn't a frequent thing I'd do.

Wait do you mean the first or second console? The first is the original, the second would do the cloning. Would the first system not be ok to go online since on Nintendo's end it only looks like I traded Pokemon with someone locally at some point instead of an edited save?

Hi,

was hoping someone might be able to help me with a few things Im unsure about. For context Ive used SX OS for the past few months, updated using choi and should have a clean nand I made before using any CFW. What Id like to do know is play online with a pokemon gamecart I bought so my questions are:

-If i create a new emunand has do I replace my sysnand with my clean nand copy? Will this mean losing the game save data I have from the pokemon game cartridge I bought?
-To go online once this is done, do I still boot through RCM ad then select my clean Sysnand to go online, will I need to update to the latest firmware to do this (through choi again?)
- Also I was underv the impression after updating past a specific firmware the gamecart slot would no longer work (gnoc patch?) so how would I go online with my legit pokemon gamecart? Is this avoided If I keep booting through RCM and then select Sysnand?

Apologies if non of that makes any sense and thanks for any help given

Only one console can go online since the Pokemon will be identical byte for byte. Nintendo conducts sanity checks for all Pokemon which is built into PKHex. Having 2 copies of the same exact Pokemon can tell Nintendo someone is hacking.

  • You restore your clean NAND backup to whatever partition you will be going online with regardless if it is emuNAND or sysNAND although most people prefer sysNAND. If you have already begun playing Pokemon then you will lose that save data once you restore your clean NAND backup
  • You only need to do this if you are interested in preserving fuses for your console. If not, then you can normally boot your console without RCM. And yes, you do need to be on the latest firmware in order to go online although whether you use ChoiDujourNX or Nintendo's servers is again dependent on whether you want to save fuses or not. I should also mention that no one has been banned for having only a mismatched fuse count
  • You are misunderstanding what the gamecart slot updates do. They update your slot irreversibly such that they no longer work on previous firmware versions. There are so far 2 updates for it; one on 4.0 and another on 9.0. Once either of these are applied, the cartridge slot no longer works on firmware versions below the one it was installed on. So for example, if you have the one from 4.0 installed, cartridges will no longer work on firmware versions below 4.0. To prevent this, nogc prevents the cartridge slot from being used entirely in order to allow you to continue using it on lower firmware versions. This all means you have to choose if you want to use your cartridges on lower or higher firmware versions. And if you are interested in preserving fuses for the sake of downgrading, then preserving your cartridge slot also makes sense
does anyone know where I can buy a non-patched switch in Italy? or a site that sends in Italy?
eBay?

So if I'm understanding you correctly: I could have clones on a save file as long as the system that does the cloning (or it's NAND partition that does it) doesn't go online? But the save file that is the original but did not do the clones CAN go online, since it isn't the one that did it, it is just now in possession of clones. Did I gathering correctly there?

Using SX OS, If I put WiFi details in on sysNAND will they be also present in emuNAND? Do I need to delete them each time I change over to emuNAND? Again like many I’m wanting to play Pokemon Shield Cartridge online.

Awesome! Thank you for bearing with me! That solution works fine as I was considering picking up a Switch Lite as well at some point, and my end goal is to be able to clone. So as long as I CAN have them and that save that owns them is a-ok, that's all that matters to me.
My ideal route I would go would be my main switch have a emuNAND for cfw stuff and would be the one to clone, my sysNAND would be my actual profile. And the Switch Lite would obviously just be another one of my actual profile on the main switch that I would go between.
And just to be sure, Nintendo can't read anything on an emuNAND as long as it is offline, correct? It basically acts as another switch inside the switch that is isolated?
