More Info Regarding Switch (Mariko/Lite) Mods by Team-Xecuter

ub3r1337's first impressions from a direct demo of TX upcoming new hardware mods!
SXMODS.png

ub3r1337 recently meet with TX to have them demo to him their upcoming new mods for the Switch (patched, mariko and lite). Unfortunately, he didn't get any pictures, but he says they'll be coming later on. Even so, he shared some of this new information at MaxConsole, also shown below:
First Off: It is a hardware mod. TX went back to its roots, and this solution is a device you need to install inside your Switch. :)

From what we could tell the install looks ultra simple and almost plug and play. When pushed about the install requirements, TX held back from claiming its fully solder-less, stating clearly that this particular design will always benefit from a few simple solder connections, versus the original intent of fully solder-less (at least for the classic model which is the unit we got to inspect).

In other words, a fully solder-less install is potentially possible with the classic models however it is not recommended by TX due to long term reliability concerns (we will cover this more in-depth at a later date, once we have our preview unit in our hands and put it thru some tests)

Second Point: There is one device for Patched and Mariko unit which is probably under production (see point three) and should be available soon :) They plan to release 2 devices; one for all classic versions (original, patch and mariko) and one for the Switch Lite.

Third Point: I really pushed for a release date, but TX refused to confirm anything during our meeting. From what I understood, even though it seems to be currently under production, because all sorts of things can occur in the factory during production, they will not commit to a date to me or their resellers until they are certain they can deliver on time enough stock to meet the demand.

I guess I can only respect that, this is probably why they did not announce anything yet, and we should know more once it is finally officially announced on their TX website.
At some point ub3r1337 hopes to get some pictures and videos from TX and a review unit, but we have no clue when that will happen. For now we just have to sit and wait for some more news regarding these new TX hardware mods to appear online!

I mean this is off topic and will probably get deleted....Not going to get into a whole debate about it either. They may not "support" piracy, but by not blocking patches that allow backups to run, they enable it and that's just splitting hairs. If they truly didn't support piracy they would block patches all together so that backups could not be played. Which would result in losing a chunk of their user base or people would use SX and Atmo like me because they each have their benefits. People in ReSwitched and the amto white knights can deny all they want that they don't pirate, they do or a good chunk do anyways.
Putting blocks in open source software would be pretty nonsensical tbh, would just splinter the user base across forks, which would cause endless headaches. If it's obvious to me, it's obvious to the devs.

Also if you're a dev with a public profile and a professional life, related to your development or not, it's pretty obvious why you might choose not to publicly support piracy with your words or actions, regardless of what you do privately. The impressions I get from certain devs are that they're honestly opposed to piracy, whereas others are ambivalent or just keeping their public image clean, but either way like I said it's obvious why it's done, and seems a bit silly to make a big fuss about "white knights" or whatever.

I think TE should give us at least an official announcement..
I'm not asking for an ETA, i don't care about it. But knowing that a solution for CFW on Mariko/Lite is coming will allow all of us to take advantage of the incoming Black Friday discounts.
Then we can keep the console sleeping in the box even for months, so that the team can finalize the product. But we should know if there's something real or if it's only a useless rumor.
This could maximize the sales even for TE, because users with ready-to-mod consoles are more prone to buy :D
Just my 2 cents :)

You can't block them. The source is there and even if it were closed source someone will patch the check out.

Then they should do that and let people fork it then to make backups run themselves. By not stopping the patches from working out of the box you are "supporting" piracy and making it possible. I understand what Hippy said about not supporting it publicly, but you're not doing anything to stop it either with your software. And if you're going to say "They can't help what people do with their software". Well that applies to everyone then, not just Atmo. Otherwise that's being pretty hypocritical. This is just my opinion which I am allowed. As I stated I use both SX and Atmo since they both have advantages....Anyways, moving on since this has nothing to do really with this thread.

Thing is to make these patches you need to reverse engineer the code which is quite a bit of effort. So technically they don't really support it but the people doing the reverse engineering work do.
I would draw the line where it's no longer their choice if it's used for piracy or not. Not supporting and actively trying to prevent are different. The later is a waste of time and just divides the community further (forks and endless drama). Luma3DS is a different story. You can say it does indeed support it by including the patches so it's zero effort for the user.

The difference with luma is that it has a real installable format on 3ds. So they wanted to support it so that you can have .cia homebrew. And because luma supports installing homebrew, it automatically supports installing anything else that is .cia.
But with switch, .nsp are dev installables, so why support them when they are not "official" (or something like that). So if there is no official installable, then there is no reason to support something like that, so it does not have the sigpatches for it.

The official installable formats are kinda dead for homebrew. 3dsx replaces cia in almost all cases. And on the Switch almost everything uses nro.

What I was saying is that luma supports .cia because it is official and ams does not support .nsp because they are dev only.
So luma has the sigpatches built in for it, but ams does not because there is no reason.
.cia and .nsp are installable. Everything else is runnable.
.cia is official, .nsp is not.

cia was and still is a format for dev units. It is never used on retail consoles (even if they can parse and install them). That's why the only official installer (DevMenu) exists only for dev units. Even CDN content doesn't use this container but it's used often to pack all of it in one file.

It's kinda getting offtopic. Just wanted to correct that.

In that case, I am totally wrong. Thanks for the fact.

Do you think we're going to get this chip soon? Maybe before Christmas? And what about new information?
A rumor started by one of the tx resellers says that we should have it for late december-early 2020 circa, nothing official so take it as a mere rumor

Noob poster here, so probably i'm saying things that most of you already know.
According to the words of @hexkyz from about 6 months ago, a glitch hack made by TE seems to exist and been used from ages by the Team.

So i think we can have a relative certainty about the release of the modchip in a more or less near future

We know this yea. But they used it to get tsec keys, so that they could "hardcode" it into their next releaes. This proves nothing about their modchip (which will probably be a glitching one).

Atmosphere does not support piracy tho. It just enables it. And thats kinda inevitable.
maybe so but helping people do that when it hurts developers after they spend years creating titles for us to enjoy only to not even pay a thing for them is kind of a middle finger to them. Plus that thing cost as much as a switch game so why not support the devs instead of pirating the games?

How is atmosphere team helping with that? They made CFW for homebrew only. Blame whoever made the sigpatches for ams if you want to point fingers.

The old, wrong story about piracy.
A pirated game is not an unsold game.
Who invests hours and hours in finding an unpatched switch, modding it, downloading roms, looking for avalanches of information on how to not be banned, , how to make an emunand etc ... simply can't afford the price of the games.
Or these people would not lost an unspeakable amount of time in this sh*t.
And this appears to be even clearer if we consider these people are totally depriving themselves of a fundamentale component of the modern gaming, that is online gaming.
Are games first necessity goods?
Obviously not.
The piracy can be considered a "bad thing"?
Probably yes.
But nonetheless a pirated game is not an unsold game.
Without pirated games, those people simply would have found another form of entertainment that they could afford, probably equally "free" (television, youtube gameplay, used games for a modern console, retrogaming with games bought for pennies ecc... all things that LEAD NOTHING TO THE DEVELOPERS).
Moreover, it is undeniable that even the piracy contributes to the formation of certain myths.
In the time of the ps1 most of the users had a modified console, and this lead to a widespread use of the console, which in turn led to the born and spread of some of the greatest IPs in the history of videogame.
So stop complaining about the piracy damaging the developers.
No such people would have bought the games that is pirating.
I see only a lot of free advertising for IPs and an increase in hardware sales.

You can pay if you want, personally 90+% of games are crap & most wouldn't buy them anyway. The other 10 or so that are decent, well it's good to be able to try them first before you part with your cash. That way you can whittle them down to the best one - then buy that if you are inclined to spend whatever they cost on a game, rather than something else.

Schrödinger's Exploit

In other words, until the Exploit is proven, the exploit's state is completely unknown and therefore, the exploit is considered to be both real and fake news at the same time until it is observed.
