I just dug out a 2DS that i haven't used in a while. I keep getting lots of random crashes while browsing the system menu and booting games. Cheap SD card that is likely dying. What is the best way to go about starting over with a new card? Do i just start as normal or do i need to do something else?

No idea if files are corrupted so i don't want to just copy to a new card.

I don't think i've ever booted up this 2ds without its SD card since i put CFW on it. What happens? heh

Cheers. :D

Can we see a pick of your sd card?
this will determine where you are at cfw wise
also check your current firmware in the settings menu

It depends on the version of Luma3DS. Hold (Select) while turning on the 2DS . On the to of the upper screen it should say
Luma3DS v??? configuration

Depending on the Luma3DS version you can start with an empty SD with:
For ≤ v7.0.5 A9LH to B9S
For v7.1 Updating B9S
For ≥ v8.0 Finalizing setup. Don’t forget to put boot.3dsx onto the new SD (in the same package as Luma boot.firm)

I recommend checking the new SD for obvious defect and/or fake before trusting it and to rule out possible causes of error.
  1. Copy all your data from the SD (if any) to a computer. Reformat the SD to FAT32, 32kb cluster size, if bigger than 32GB and using Windows with guiformat.
  2. Check your SD Windows, Linux, OS X.
    • If you get any errors replace the SD.
    • If you get no errors delete the test files and copy your files (if any) back on the SD.

I'm not sure i follow.. what do you mean exactly by "Can we see a pick of your sd card"?

Says - v9.0

I am not sure what you mean by "For ≥ v8.0 Finalizing setup. Don’t forget to put boot.3dsx onto the new SD (in the same package as Luma boot.firm)"

Do you mean i only have to follow the guide from that point on with a new card?

Thanks for you replys guys :)

B9S is installed on the internal NAND and independent form the SD. This means: Yes, you can start at the finalizing part of the guide.

Edit:
The finalizing part assumes latest boot.3dsx to be already present – this is why I mentioned it separately.

Edit#2:

What is wrong with my brain today? Download latest Luma3DS (boot.firm) and Homebrew Launcher (boot.3dsx) from here:
https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases
Updating the official firmware before putting latest Luma on the SD leads to the infamous "Failed to apply 1 Firm patch(es)" message. This is no problem though as you can replace boot.firm before or after the update.

Cool! That is much easier than starting over, heh. Could you clarify what "boot.3dsx onto the new SD (in the same package as Luma boot.firm)" means? All i did was follow a guide I have zero idea any of this actually works, lol. Where do i obtain boot.3dsx. Where does boot.3dsx go on the SD card (root?)? What is Luma boot.firm package? I don't see it in the finalizing part of the guide.

Cheers :P
