So I've got a switch on 9.0.1 that I bought on ebay. It seems to be in pretty good condition, and has a serial of XAW70013* and shows as not patched (I know it being patched and RCM is not directly related, just stating it so it's known.)

I got it into RCM using a jig by turning it off, putting the jig in, holding the vol up, then hitting the power button. After, it just sits on a black screen like you would expect, so I plug it into my PC. Windows won't detect it at all, not even as an unknown device like others have had. It just does... nothing. It just sits on black screen, device manager shows nothing, TegraRCMGui shows nothing, zadig doesn't have it.

I've tried installing the driver with TegraRCMGui 2.6. I've also tried on 2 different windows 10 PCs, and 3 different cables (USB-C to A.) And I've tried putting it in RCM multiple times.

The device charges, so it seems like the port works fine. Overall, the device itself seems to work fine. Doesn't have any surface damage, save for one small scratch on a plastic part of the case near the vent. There's no damage at all around the USB port, and visually it looks fine I think.

At this point I'm kind of at a loss, any input would be great.

Edit: Also the reason I'm pretty sure it's in RCM is because it doesn't show signs of booting, and will not turn on until I hold the power in for ~15 seconds or so. Then it turns on first click, but until then I can click the power, plug it in and unplug it, and it just sits on black screen.

Yeah I've tried pretty much everything in that thread. The only thing I haven't is TegraRcmSmash, but the issue is windows won't even detect it at all so I'm not sure what that would do, plus from what one guy said in that thread the GUI is just a wrapper around the same back end code.

- I put the jig in, and make sure it's in the right place
- I hold down the vol+ and power button for 12 seconds
- I plug the switch into my PC, the switch does not start (like it normally does when plugged in to charge), the PC makes no noise, it doesn't show up as APX or even unknown device in device manager, and of course TegraRcm or Zadig don't pick it up.
- I try on different ports and three different cables, across two PCs so far, same thing.

I might take it to work and try it on my PC there, but kind of at a loss. It almost seems like a hardware issue, but at the same time it charges, and the port itself looks fine.

So I'm at work trying it, same thing. Tried two different USB ports. It charges, I shut it down, put it into RCM, nothing shows up in device manager (didn't even install the drivers this time, hoping I can just see it as APX or even unknown before messing with the drivers.) Also tried even more cables. I would try my phone, but I don't have an OTG adapter and the only C-to-C I have is designed for charging only.

Honestly at a complete loss, I don't know if it's some hardware problem, something I'm doing wrong, or what.

Edit: I mean, unless anyone here has any other ideas, about the only recourse I have is to try it with my patched switch and see if it can be detected, and if it can I'll try to get an exchange or refund. At this point it just seems like it has to be hardware, which would be odd since all of that looks fine and it charges.

Before you buy, did you ask the seller whether (s)he jailbreak the console? Possibility cfw crashed when updated to ver 9.0.1 & the seller doesn't know how to boot into cfw anymore. Just my hunch. Why not go online & see if the account of this console banned or not

Afraid I didn't, it was one of those sellers who looked to be selling a number of unpatched units (as well as a bunch of other stuff.) They're all advertised as unpatched, but that's about it.

I suppose I could go online and try to see if it's banned or not. Would the CFW crashing prevent it from being able to be detected by a PC in RCM mode at all?

Thanks

Just trying to help out. Here's one on Reddit. Look at the comments/discussion for solution(s) offered.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHacks/comments/d3tww9/switch_not_recognized_by_pc/

I appreciate the help :) I hope I didn't sound annoyed at you or anything, wasn't my intention.

Looking through the thread, it sounds like theirs shows up in the device manager, just as unknown device. Mine doesn't even get that far :(

Are you sure it's charging? Since you claim it isn't showing up?

Yeah, it was actually slightly discharged when I got it, so I charged it. Also I can plug it into my PC out of RCM and it starts up and shows the green charging bar, etc.

I know there are apps that need to be uninstalled before an update. The consequences of leaving these apps on while updating, i haven't experience it myself. So i apologize.

Oh, also I tried connecting it online. It seems to work fine, from what I can tell it doesn't appear to be banned. It also updated D3 which I have inserted. When I got it, it was pretty much factory reset as well. No users, data, etc. I had gone through the initial setup before doing anything as well, so I made a user, inserted a game, etc.

Also it's no problem, I appreciate any input :)

Got an Android phone?

I do, but I can't seem to get it to switch from charging mode to file transfer. I'm suspecting it's because I don't have an OTG adapter but not 100% sure. It's a pixel XL on pie, and the only C-to-C cable I have is designed specifically for charging, it won't even offer the option to switch to device USB control to let me change the mode off charging. The C-to-A cables I have, with an A-to-C adapter I have, won't go out of charging mode. It offers the option to switch, but fails to do so :/

When I go home for lunch, I have possibly one adapter that might work, but I don't know for sure. I actually just remembered it, it's an A-to-C that came with my pixel.

Some Android just must enable OTG on. But if possible to get it somehow noticed, get Rekado and see if you can push a payload for example Hekate.

I've been trying to find a way to see if OTG is enabled. The default mode is set to file transfer, which is suggested here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/9b8p49/usb_otg_not_working_on_android_pie/ (for my phone as well.) It sounds like Pixel XL and Pie could be having issues with it.

rebooted switch and pc?

hold switch power button for 15-20 seconds on switch and pc reboot is self explanitory

The switch has been rebooted multiple times getting it into RCM. And I've tried it on 3 different PCs, one of them was a laptop that had been off.

I'll try specifically getting it into RCM and rebooting my PC just to see if it does something, though.

What is your full serial number? I have ran the one above through a checker but it says incorrect? I was going to check for you are you sure it’s not a patched version I thought the 70013... are patched units, it sounds like it is too me. I only need 10 digits not the full serial code and it will still show a black screen regardless whether it’s patched or not.

Have you tried just sxos on your sd card to see if that works, it doesn’t have to be paid for just to test it out, it might be an easier way of testing your switch just to find out if it works or not.

Is your microsd card formatted in your switch in settings to begin with, then put your files on the sd card and pop it back in your switch and try again also that can be a problem like your having.

I've tried about 5 different cables at this point.

Even my patched switch can get into RCM just fine, and could be detected on my previous home desktop, it just can't send a payload. At least that was the case when I tried it about 6 months ago.

I checked in https://ismyswitchpatched.com/ using prefix XAW7 and code serial digits 001343 and it says good to go.

Sorry just noticed the edit.

On the SXOS, no, I don't know how I could. My issue is that windows won't even recognize the switch as anything at all when in RCM mode (as far as I can tell.) No noise, nothing in device manager, not even APX or Unknown Device.

On the second point:
Would the SD card somehow prevent windows from recognizing the switch itself in RCM? Like not even picking it up at all?
Also I formatted and laid out my sdcard according to https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/emummc/partitioning_sd/, the switch seems to pick it up and read it just fine.
