Wireless charge + Bluetooth Mod Guide N3Ds XL in 4K

Hello, i've made a long video about how i did the wireless charge + bluetooth mod.
The bluetooth part is only referencial and not 100% a tutorial.
but i linked the forum post in the description on how to do it and what you need.
But the video shows still a big part of it, only the wiring is not 100% detailed in the video, but from 5:45 on you get the complete wireless charge tutorial.
You can still watch the whole video to get more input =)
i did a shell swap that's why i was able to "build" in my mods again so i could film them =)
+ also swapped out my analog stick for a majora's mask analog stick =)

Here's the youtube Tutorial!:

pictures of the mods + the wiring + some of the headphone jack (forgot those in the video)

and here are some pictures of what i ended up with =):

i've only had new 3ds's, i've never had a o3ds open i don't even know if i'd fit, i'm not quite sure.

i've looked in to it, and i'm like 90% sure that there is not enough space to fit a wireless charger in the o3ds xl, the battery takes a huge chunk in the middle and i can't place it under the battery due to safety (heat is bad for batterys) + the range, above is the cartridge reader which goes 100% flush in to the housing no space at all, left of there is the wifi module, under that is the sd card reader + the touch stick, on the other side is the analog + d pad which all start at the housing and go down to the motherboard, i'm very sorry but this mod is not for the o3ds it seems :c meaby if you ever get a n3ds xl :P

hows the wireless charging speed compare to wired charging with the original Nintendo charger?
I'm scared of the heat.......

i have a jailbroken iphone, so what i did was, hooked up my iphone to one of these receivers that i build in the n3ds, and measured the mah received by the iphone, was a good solid 450-800, sometimes even got a little above 800, like 850, but for the most part it's like 550/750. which i'm fine with, about heat... i've found that the receiver does not really get "hot" it kind of get's a little above body temperature, but... the plastic housing takes up the heat, like when you charge all night it takes it up and and up and up, and it kind of stays "warm" but it's not really hot + It's far away from the battery, the only thing that get's warm is the backcover + the tape on the receiver and maybe even that part of the motherboard, but again, it's nothing to worry, it's like 40-45C and that's not a problem for the motherboard, if the battery would be near, i'd be a problem but that one is far far away =), you can't wireless charge while holding and when you take the 3ds from the wireless charger, 10 seconds later it's completely cooled down.

very cool, thanks :)
that's a cool flag you have there, never seen that before

I'm planning on doing the wireless charging mod for my N2DS XL, but instead of using a micro USB or Lightning-based receiver, I've got the Galaxy S5 receiver coil:

The advantage here is that the two terminals can be easily accessed by the two points without the need for cutting.

My question is, can I just simply solder the two points to their corresponding pins on the 2DS, or are there other implications I need to be aware of? I know that the left point is the GND, which should go to the left 3 pins on the 2DS, while the right point is the +5V, which should connect to the right-most pin on the 2DS.

The output is 5V at 800mA, which should be okay for the 2DS, right?

UPDATE:
I used an old 3DS and a spare wireless pad as a test, and it worked.

I ended up cutting a hole in the inner casing and feeding the extended power cables through to the coil, which sits in the gap under the outer cover (had to sand it down to increase the space between the layers).

It generally works, but can get a little warm at times. The receiver I used for this one wasn't a S5 pad and required some cutting, hopefully the S5 pads will be much easier to work with. (Still waiting for them to arrive)

UPDATE 2:
As some may have noticed, the ferrite shielding is missing in my photo. Turns out that's an important part and shouldn't be removed, so please don't forget that if you're trying this for yourself.

Hope that I'm not so late to ask you somethings..... what was the problem on not keeping the shielding cover? What about that micro usb entrance do you use it? is it necessary to keep? and is your 3ds working fine?

The ferrite plate focuses the inductive waves towards the coil, improving efficiency. Without it, the waves can become dispersed towards other metal parts inside the 3DS, lowering efficiency and causing heating.

The micro USB port on my charging circuit was redundant and non-functional, so I removed it.

My 3DS works like normal after the mod.

Just to be sure you just connected the wires to the golden connectors right? I really want to do it on mine but it's the only one so haha

It's a bit risky if it's your only console. Be sure you have the terminals connected correctly, and that there's enough space inside the casing. Even if it's connected correctly, the wireless receiver coil can still put strain on the screen and other components from behind and cause damage over long periods.

Hi there,

My apologies for Necro-ing the thread but I attempted to install the bluetooth mod on my N3ds.
I wanted to practise first so I installed it on my dead N3ds I had lying around (with a tested and functional battery of course).

I soldered the wires correctly on the battery connector and on the bluetooth transmitter but the latter doesn't turn on, to be sure I haven't accidentally fried it I soldered the transmitter back on it's battery and it's functioning as normal.

Both batteries are 3.7 V so theoretically it should work...

here,s a pic on my soldering (I had previously tried with magnet wires but I this pic was taken with 32 AVG to see if maybe wire thickness was the issue)

imgur . com /RPjSM2s

and this is the original soldering on the transmitter (which clearly shows the positive and negative contacts)

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thank you

The wireless charging mod is cool asf
I hope someone could redo this with some improvements.
I might do it in the future but it would be my first time modding something so I won't be improving anything lol
