So, where I live (Italy) there are only two editions available for Pokemon Sword and Shield: the standard one and the double pack one (the one with both games with golden steelbook).
Since in UK there is the Steelbook Edition with only one game and the matching steelbook, I ordered one, and it also includes a clothes DLC.
I know that Switch is region-free and the game will also include every language; what I don't know is if I will be able to redeem the DLC because, as I said, I'm from Italy, so same region (PAL) but different country.
Does anyone know if I will be able to redeem it?

Italy and the UK are in the same region, the UK has a different currency but codes from one work in the other EU region, excepting money card codes.

Didn't know on Pokemon, but the DLC codes on collectors editions from other countries don't work for me, there are the two games that didn't allow me to redeem the content through eshop:
  • Nights of Azure 2 (Premium box from Japan)
  • Fate/Extella Link (Glory edition from USA)
So on general, yes, they can restrict the codes to regions, but i don't know if it happend on all games or only on some.

Ok well, so technically it should work, but in the end I will know it for sure when I will try to redeem it lol.
It's not a big deal if I won't be able to redeem it, it's just a cosmetic DLC, but hey if I can it's better

Even if it doesn't you can make a UK Nintendo Account and redeem it on that. It will be usable by any account.

Define region-locked. The system itself is NOT region-locked. But as far as I know, each profile on your switch can only be associated with 1 app store. I have 2 profiles on mine. 1 for the US shop, and 1 for the Japanese shop.

With that said, if you buy a cart or download a game from a certain shop/region then the DLC (potentially) would need to come from that same region.
But again, your switch will happily play anything from any region. The DLC simply has to match the game, that's all. You can get an account for free in any region's shop. You just need to use a different email address for each.

Oh good to know. Thanks for the tip!
The long answer is, as long as the game shares the same title ID between the two regions, it will actually show up as purchased and redownloadable even when you launch eShop using a different region account. So effectively it's one and the same eShop entry just with different prices set for different currencies, much like how Google Play works, hence it would only make sense that the DLC is linked to that same entry making it behave in the same way.
Now, there is nothing actually saying devs can't make a separate release for each region, Nintendo leaves that decision up to them in case they want to have regional differences and/or don't have the time to have every language bundled into one and ready to release at the same time. But the vast majority of releases are global (identical in every country except maybe some of the less common Asian ones which I'm not sure about as they often tend to get localizations later) or at least identical between US/EU, sharing the same title ID, and eShop entry, as well as everything else, and using your region settings to determine which flavor of the game to show you if there are different languages or minor differences.
On the rare occasion where they make a separate release for different regions, they are essentially treated as two different games and any DLC and updates will only be compatible with a specific version (and obviously, if that specific version does not exist in your region's eShop you can't redeem it on the local eShop and would have to make a Nintendo account of the correct region) but the vast majority of the time it should not be a problem.

I don't know if anyone is still curious about Switch DLC region locked or not (I am at least lol) but here is what I found. If you press (+) on your joy-con or controller, it will boot up a software information page, under the "Software Information" tab on the left, there is a "Support Information" option, select that and it should boot up a page that contains all the support region for your specific game and its cartridge. So if you are worried about DLC compatibility or if you bought an overseas copy of a game, you can use this method to check whether your home region or country is supported. Here are some examples just incase it wasn't clear enough (these are from my collection of cartridges so feel free to check yours in case there are differences):

Pokemon Sword/Shield: USA/Canada/Latin America/Caribbean, Europe, Australia/NZ, Japan, Hong Kong/Taiwan and Korea are all supported, therefore, any DLC related to these games will compatible with cartridges from any region and vice versa.

Fate/EXTELLA Link: USA/Canada/Latin America/Caribbean region only therefore only DLCs purchased in the American region is compatible. (I bought the US version of the game because my local game shop ran out of copies so they imported from the US so different regions will have different compatibility)

Splatoon 2: USA/Canada/Latin America/Caribbean and Australia/NZ so only DLCs from these 2 regions are compatible. Different cases for Europe and Japan.

Now, here is a special case. Sometimes you may find your home region missing on the information page. Fear not, you didn't buy an incorrect copy, its just that sometimes that developers "shortened" the information on regions. Example:

Atelier Ryza: US and EU, so in this case EU includes regions such as Australia and South Africa and US should be self-explanatory. I am not too sure about the Japanese version of the game since my copy is from Australia. To keep it simple, you may refer to the PAL, SECAM and NTSC regions and what countries they cover.

Just a safety advice if you have the same/similar informations displayed as my copy of Atelier Ryza, ONLY buy foreign DLCs if 1. you bought you own country's version of the game and 2. if your region doesn't show on the support page. This is just incase of incompatibility, so taking my copy of Atelier Ryza for example, I wouldn't buy a Japanese DLC because the region wasn't listed on the support page. Just a final heads up, sometimes regions are not listed but instead there is a support url, identify any hints to a region within the url as that may point to the supported regions of the game.
