Persona 5: Scramble - The Phantom Strikers gets new gameplay trailer

When the latest Persona spin-off was announced, fans were left in shock, previously believing the game to be a sequel to the Persona Arena series, or perhaps a port of Persona 5 to the Nintendo Switch. Instead, we got the reveal of a Koei Tecmo “Musou” style title: Persona 5: Scramble - The Phantom Strikers. Since then, information has been sparse, with not much else being known other than it being an action hack ‘n slash game featuring the Persona 5 cast. Atlus has graced the Internet with a new trailer, however, showing off some new gameplay, featuring cutscenes, new characters, stealth elements, and more. You can check the trailer out to tide yourself over until the Japanese version launches on February 20, 2020.

Starting to get a little more excited for it now but still way bummed where not getting P5 on switch. I would gladly rebuy/play it.

I will ask again:

Who. The. Fuck. Asked. For. This?

I mean, on the one hand, it looks like it's not just another *just mash the attack button to kill everything in sight with no strategy or challenge whatsoever" Warriors game, but this all looks like stuff that would have made for rad DLC or new stuff for Persona 5 The Royal. The new locations to explore while you have some downtime? New anime scenes (that I really question the point of when you have a very good looking art style in 3D that should negate the purpose of? It'd be like if Guilty Gear Xrd or the new one had a traditional anime cutscene not rendered using the engine graphics in real time, you know?) seem to imply this will have more going on as well in addition to the need to sneak around, and I'm sure the OST will be a part of my acid jazzam, but at the end of the day, this is about as compelling to a Persona player as is Yakuza going from having real time combat to turn-based combat because they need to make a shallow Dragon Quest reference. (Which, considering the game comes out at the end of the year in Japan (is there a US release date for Yakuza: Like a Dragon?), and the timing of the remasters, may be an experiment by Sega and Team RGG on what sells and/or reviews well, now that I think about it.) I'm sure diehard Persona fans will get it, but while I personally love playing the games post Persona 1 regardless if it's Mark or Masao dancing crazy or if it's God Kandori or SUPER GUIDO!, this game's stigma of having Musou gameplay isn't exactly winning any points in its favor for this Mad Dog!

The radically different play style and being made by a different company are likely why it is it's own thing and not just an add on. The type of game play isn't for everyone anyway so not really shocked to see people not so thrilled about it.

As for the anime scene thing compared to guilty gear, well, guilty gear nails the 2d look more then persona 5 does. Chances are by persona 6(whatever decade that comes out in) the sepreatly animated scenes will be a thing of the past assuming atlus nails the asthetic as well as guilty gear and dragonball fighterz do.

I wasn't referring so much to the gameplay as much as the different areas you explore and what appears to be the activities you take part in.. One of them even looked a lot like a certain part of a city in Japan that you explore in 3 of the mainline Yakuza games...

Also, I think not even my pants could contain the...fuel of ecstasy of a Persona game made in collaboration with Arc System Works and their 2.5D techniques with Unreal Engine 4. Not a Persona 5 Arena, but Persona 6!...though I wouldn't mind a new Persona fighting game I suppose.

Both take place in real life Japan and share similar looking places...hmm, HMM...HMMMMMM...(hmm continues to intensify)
oh shit, well, arc does handle the persona fighting games so it could happen, oh my gosh would that be great if/when they give p5 that treatment

Instead of easily porting main game to the switch they are reusing models from persona 5 to make a shitty dynasty warriors clone. Could have made p q2 for switch too nope. Do altus have a sony contract where they can only release mainline persona games to playstation?

It still looks interesting keeping its Phantom thieves style of gameplay intact. But yeah I understand the disappointment, but Sony is Sony
they want the main Persona games to be exclusive.

Aren't the Warriors games super popular in Japan? I'm sure this is a dream for them.

Honestly, I'm surprised people are so down on this. The anime cutscenes and exploration sections made it look like this'll have more story elements than I originally thought, which is mainly what I would want out of a Persona sequel, so my excitement for this has gone way up. I understand the argument that some of this stuff could have been incorporated into Royal, but Royal doesn't look light on content either, so I don't have a problem. Besides, P5 is a complete story as is and I like the idea of them just enhancing the current story rather than adding on an extra story as an epilogue that may or may not gel with the rest of the game.

I would have loved P5 (R) on switch, but this is new content, and new content is awesome ! I'm so very much looking forward to buy the collector's edition of the game ! Just hope it'll come out to the west not too soon after the japanese release though

Also, I adore this type of gameplay, so this is kind of a dream come true for me.
