Every Pokémon that participated in the battle gets 100% Exp and every other one in your party 50%. You can not turn this off like you could in the 3DS games.

Would it be possible to mod the game so only Pokemon who actually battled get Exp, like in all games pre-XY? Was someone able to do this with Let's Go?

The time has come where people want to mod a game to add more grinding to it!
You don't need to grind in a Pokemon game. XY was the easiest game of them all even with Exp Share turned off.

I don't want my Pokemon to gain experience even though they haven't done anything. I don't want them to randomly evolve even though I haven't even used them. It would feel like I'm a father who leaves his family and then comes back when they have all grown up.

Dad... where were you the whole time? Why weren't you there for me? I wanted you to see it... When I first go to school, when I get a job, I wanted to do all of this with you! I have done everything without you, I have grown up without you... I'm an adult now, and we won't get those moments ever back.

Why, why couldn't you be there for me?

A life full of regrets. The joy of life... your children... you have missed it.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it feels.

I always thought exp share was toggleable. If it is a mod removal would be meaningless
@Milenko a mod isn't going to achieve wild pkmn battles you would need to redesign the structure of the game to have that

I'm not one of those who supports these games because of many things that were already discussed, but of everything, the feature I like the most, is the auto Exp share. I remember back as a kid how grindy the games where, to a point that you needed to spare a whole day only to level up a single pokemon upt to leve 100 at the Elite Four. A Single one.

When you are a kid you don't see a problem because at that age one does no value time, but now I regret those many hours spent for a game that has fallen in my list of forgotten or lost cartdriges over time...

You do not need a level 100 pokemon to play or beat the game. Therefore you made the game a grindfest.

Look any game is a grindfest if you self-impose new rules. The fact is these games have never required grinding.

Back then I did that as a "collectable" value for pokemons but yeah, that's another fact I overlooked as a kid. Bad behaviour I no longer make, I just prefer to enjoy the story side in RPG games and let the battles pass as they come, without lowering the dificulty curve by making level grinding before certain spots.

Red,Blue, & Yellow was never difficult without the auto exp share. The moment you realize Psychic type mons were the most powerful,
that alone narrow down the difficulty of the game. From what i remember you always had atleast 1 pkmn {your starter} with a huge level gap from the rest of your party.
Exp share made it easier to utilize your team without certain mons being under lvled when needed.

I am very surprised they removed to option to allow people to make the game harder. What's wrong with letting people pick if they want the xp share on or off?

Because there will be an idiot that would turn it off then complain the exp curve is unfair.

And no, the exp. share is hard baked in the code. Unless you know how to coded all the exp gain mechanic again, it is impossible to do it.
