Just used this program to split an nsp file into 2 parts. Forgot about the archive bit, will go an do that now, but what about the actual files? There's very little info about how exactly to install the split files. Under Windows, they just show up as .file after being split. Maybe a stupid question, but should I rename them to nsp? Does it matter in what order you install the files? Can you use just about any nsp installer for this to work (Tinfoil, GoldLeaf, Fluffy etc etc).

EDIT: Okay, I read through some of the thread instead of only reading OP, and I am beginning to realize what the archive bit actually does. It's late now, so I'll try this again tomorrow and post the results. Hopefully I can get this working.

EDIT 2: ...And it's working! Jackpot!!! If anyone body else ends up having trouble with this, let me know and I'll outline how this works and the steps you need to do.

thanks @AnalogMan this is a great tool!

First time using python on Mac, but I love command line stuff so it was easy to get my way around it... Split 2 games Donkey Kong and Mario Kart and it worked perfectly

(Had to boot windows on VM for the archive bit but, ow well, nothing is perfect I guess hehe)

NXShell on Switch can mark folders are archived if you want to cut the VM out. Just copy the file to the Switch, open NXShell, apply the archive bit, exit NXSehll and do what you need with the result.

Great workaround man, thanks. I actually installed NX-Shell yesterday and didn't know about this function... All good now :yayone:

Fantastic script! I did spend a while trying to figure out how to use it, running from command line, with the files in the same or different folders, using cd and/or full file addresses, all with no luck.. but then I scrolled halfway down the first page and @AnalogMan said all you need to do is just drag and drop the nsp onto the script. SIMPLES.

And then everyone started troubleshooting how to do it the hard way, completely missing that comment. :rofl2:

Top stuff man!!

Please teach me! I’m having trouble installing nsp files. I split them and copy the folder that was created into the root of my microsd. That worked before last update, but now, when I go to SX os install (on the album), doesn’t show any nsp file

I'm not sure I can help you if you said it worked before last update and not now, and especially since you are using SX OS, which I am not (i use Atmosphere), but I can try I guess.

For starters, make sure the folder is actually named ".nsp" at the end, as this is required to make an installer see the folder as an nsp file. The file should something like <name>_split.nsp. Just make sure it has the nsp extension, but is actually a folder.

Second, right-click the folder, choose Properties, go to "advanced" and manually set the archive bit (I can provide more info on this if needed). Basically just tick it. Once you then select "OK", you should get a new dialog window asking if you want to set the archive bit for both the folder and all contents within, or just the folder itself. Select all and click "OK". The folder should now be ready to be copied to the SD card for installation and should show up in the installer as an nsp file.

Did you check the option "Add to path" while installing Python?
