Hi my switch firmware is still on 6.02 and I'm currently using sx os emunand which I updated to current firmware 9.01 (I might have got a couple of digits wrong in my naming of firmware). I've never been online since I modded my switch. All is working fine but I plan on updating my switch firmware officially in order to play some games online. Can anyone forsee any issues with me updating the official firmware via Nintendo and using online? Eg will sx os emunand still work (latest sx os version)? Do I need to make a nand backup prior to updating officially in case of orany mishaps or can I just do this after I've updated? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Does a NAND backup include game saves?

I.e. does restoring to a clean nand also restore game saves that you had at the time of making the backup?

Cheers

This doesn't appear to be a firmware-related issue. Does the issue occur in ReiNX?

Ive never used ReiNX before, just atmosphere.
I downloaded the latest files from reinx.guide/downloads/stable

I copied the files to the Switch SD card. I copied the ReiNX.bin file to my RCMloader. Renamed it to payload.bin and set it to boot that payload.

When I startup my switch it says in red "failed to launch recovery menu". and something about is the file in reinx folder?
The Reinx splash screen comes on for a second then the atmosphere one comes on and it loads the switch menu. It still says Current version: 7.0.1/AMS 0.9.4/S
I'm guessing AMS means it booted into atmosphere instead.

SD card must be setup wrong. Do I need to format it and start from scratch to get it working right?

So I deleted all the Atmosphere files and folders off my SD card.
Now I still get the red error, then it flashes the reinx splash really quick, then the atmosphere splash, then the reinx splash again for longer this time, then black screen, then switch logo.
It boots into Reinx this time: current version 7.0.1 Reinx(0.0)

The games still give me the same error: "The software was closed because and error occured"
I installed one of the smaller games to the switch instead of SD card to see if the sd was the issue and the same error occurs.
Not all games are doing this. Only some of the newer games.
I have also tried different copies of the game.

Hi, I have one of the first switches, so the exploits work.
It is still on 5.0 with SXOS and the full executer chain. EmuNAND has not been set up.

I would like to make the product a little bit up to date, maybe 8.0? give it some emunand and so on..

What exactly would you guys propose to do?
Best regards

There's no reason not to update to 9.0.1 if your Switch is unpatched. If your intention is to play online, then you should have a clean sysNAND on 9.0.1 for online play, and you should have a dirty emuNAND on 9.0.1 that's kept offline.

If you don't care about online play, there isn't much of a reason to use an emuNAND.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Should I update to newest firmware before installing cfw?
Thinking either Kosmos or sx os
If your Switch is unpatched, it doesn't really matter when you update. If you haven't already purchased SX OS, I don't recommend doing so. Atmosphere is free and can do just about everything SX OS can do.

Hello,

I have a day 1 switch updated to fw 5.1.0 (this was done through the regular Nintendo servers back when fw 5.1.0 first released). I got the SX Pro when it first released and have been using it to play XCI games offline from my SD card without issue since that time. There was no emuNAND at that time so I don't have that installed. I have not updated my system firmware or my SX software in over a year, and I have not gone online since I first used SX Pro. This setup worked for me for every game I wanted to play until now, since the newest games require a higher firmware. But I want to play Fire Emblem and the new Zelda game, so I'll need the newer firmwares.

What is the best way for me to go about doing this? I'm not interested in playing online ever. I just want the simplest way to play the newest games offline (do I even need to mess with emuNAND if that's all I want to do?). I'm assuming if I connect online to update my firmware through the normal means, I will get banned and no longer be able to get newer firmware versions.

I haven't kept up with the CFW scene, and I've forgotten most of what little I knew from a year ago (I vaguely remember things like hekate, TegraSmash, etc. but can't really remember how to use them). I pretty much just remember how to boot into SX to play XCI games. My SX software is still an old version from a year ago, like v1.3 or something. I'm hoping there is a simple and safe way for me to get the newest firmware and continue to use SX Pro to play XCI games offline from my SD card.

Thanks in advance for the help!
Use the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX to update your firmware

Hi All. newbie here with an unpatched switch on 9.0

managed to get hakate up and running and followed all process to get backups etc...
now got the kosmos/atmosphere package all on and running switch in airplane mode as i dont want to get blocked and my sky router wont block the updates (grrrrrr)

so of course i was going to incognito but that wont work with atmosphere

just wondering if theres other ways to block updates and where do i go from here
If you're already using Airplane Mode, you don't need any additional protection. If you're super paranoid, you can setup 90DNS on your Switch's internet settings.

Maybe a stupid question.
But how possible is it to get banned for transfering my Smash EmuNand SaveGame(unmodified) to my Nand Official Smash Game with Edizon.
I read that is possible to get banned if you use modified data?
Assuming the save file hasn't been modified (or a copy of someone else's), the risk of a ban is little to none.

Yes, I am currently using the same SD Card for both Nand backups. I guess I should mention, though, that I recently switched to a new and bigger SD Card, from a 64gb to 128gb. The backup that I restored was made using my old SD Card and restored with the new one. All files were transferred from the old one to the new one before i did the restore. Is that the issue?
Yes so you will have to reinstall the games then/

What are the differences, pros and cons of the NSP and XCI file formats?
.NSP files are smaller and faster than .XCI files but require installation before they can be used whereas .XCI files can be mounted without any installation. All CFW support .NSP files however SX OS is the only CFW to support mounting .XCI files. Other CFW support installing .XCI files but this has a similar effect to installing a .NSP file.

Has anyone else recently received error code 2160-8007? Just got a new modem the other day. I thought the internet was working fine but Connection Tests always fail now... unless I choose Automatic DNS.
Nintendo has more details on that error code.

If it is patched, then it is your hardware that is patched. For patched consoles, the software version is important. If the firmware is 4.1 or lower, it can run CFW now. If the firmware is between 5.0 and 7.0.1, it can run CFW in the future but there is no telling when. If the firmware is 8.0 or higher, then it may never run CFW.

You do risk a ban by going online to update your firmware. If you do not want to go online to update your firmware, use the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX

Now I see the issue. If it is only the newer games that do not work, then that means your firmware version is too low. You will have to update your firmware. I recommend using ChoiDujourNX to update your firmware.

Trying to use tinfoil 5.0 to load The Witcher 3 via USB on OSX.

What protocol should be selected for this drive and directory?

So wanted to test tinfoil and uploading back ups via USB and I installed a torrented copy of a game. The game worked ok but then crashed when I tried to test it again saying the data was corrupt. There was an error logged. I haven't connected to wifi yet. Do I need to delete this error log? Will Nintendo ban the console if they see it?

Maybe try using EdiZon?

If you were running Atmosphere or ReiNX, creport automatically shifts all error reports to the SD card so they are never saved. If you were using SX OS, then you have no such protection. There is also no way to remove error codes as the only tool to do so was depreciated because its usage led to a higher incidence of bans. That being said, its hard to tell whether Nintendo will ban you or not for this error code.

Thanks for the reply. I was using Atmosphere. If I go into Error History on the Switch it displays a "System Settings" error for the time of the crash. In the details section it has Error Code: 2016-0610 The microSD card data is corrupted.

Hopefully this won't raise any flags for Nintendo...
