I tend to find youtube tutorials for anything software related to almost always be out of date, even more so if it is hacking or oddball hardware related. Sometimes that is OK but most times it can send you down the wrong path (or a harder path) when instead something text based does better.

https://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu (which I got to from https://beagleboard.org/p/robertcnelson-myopenid-com/ubuntu-6c7f26 ) looks like it has a simple image you can download, flash to a SD card (they will tend to link a nice program you open say here is my image, here is my SD card, make it happen) and then boot directly into (before sorting any network and whatever else issues).
I will note that for many of these microcomputer things I tend to find live youtube watching to be a pain so instead I encourage people to look at the likes of youtube-dl or something instead and watch the downloaded videos in one of the very nice media players said microcomputers tend to have. Browsing might also be a bit tricky but probably better than most mobile phones and tablets.

The specs of this SBC isn't particular nice, a 1ghz single core ARM CPU and 512mb of RAM probably isn't enough for watching modern YouTube videos, unless you want to watch them in 360p or something.

Downloading videos and playing them in a media player should be fine, I imagine 720p might be doable for most content with that things specs. As FAST mentioned, using something like YouTube DL to download videos before watching them would probably be what you'd have to do.

For web browsing, it probably won't be a good experience for most sites.

As for OS, you're stuck with whatever ARM-based Linux distro will run on it, which probably isn't much. Installing it, as FAST mentioned, should be as simple as flashing a premade image.

But TBH, that thing isn't really meant for what you want, media streaming and web browsinf and such, it's more for educational purposes and for very low powered embedded systems use.

From that https://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#All_BeagleBone_Variants_and_PocketBeagle

4 Method 1: Download a Complete Pre-Configured Image

4.3 raw microSD img

4.3.2 All BeagleBone Variants and PocketBeagle

"This image can be written to a 2GB (or larger) microSD card, via 'dd' on Linux or on Windows/Mac/Linux: https://etcher.io "

Get prebuilt image: ............

wget is a command line download program but the link itself there (I don't want to link it here, it is not against the rules I just don't want to have outdated links and contribute to the problem) will probably come down just fine in a normal browser download.
You can verify it if you want with the SHA256 provided.

After that I would grab that etcher program rather than messing with dd if this is your first time doing this sort of thing. From there it should be fairly obvious and you pop in the SD card after that and follow whatever it says on screen.

In regards to the MicroSD, here's a small tip: run h2testw on any new MicroSD you buy online, particularly ones that are over 32GB, there's a lot of fakes out there, some of which the sellers aren't even aware are fake...

Either way, FAST6191's advice doesn't need to be added to whatsoever. Particularly the advice about not using dd if you're not so proficient at the command line - I once overwrote the booted OS with an ISO stored on it with it once, how stupid of me :P

I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.

South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's too late
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant

an exception is giant douche vs turd sandwich, that's always relevant :P
