Why would you want to downgrade?

Because I couldn't boot my console not even on ofw would got black screen after tried to enter in cfw sysnand... I end up creating emummc but no like not even stock sysnand works. I got the of of the keys but on the app hacdiskmount fail all my keys and I know they are right because I used them with hactool to change some games

I'm on 8.x Firmware with SX OS 2.8.x.
Is it safe to upgrade to 9.x with SX OS 2.9.2 and ChoiDujourNX 1.0.2?
Anything I need to know?

Hi, I just got a 2nd hand unpatched Switch with latest atmosphere cfw. I'm planning to format it (initialize console) and format also the memory card.

My question is, is it safe? will I encounter any problems if I initialize the console? I'm afraid I might brick this after initializing the console.

Hello, new here. Question I have is there a way to see what email I used for the nintendo ID for eshop, when looking in settings it just shows part of the email with the rest covered up. I know sounds like it's not my switch but it is my original switch that's unpatched and I made a second account so my real won't be banned from Nintendo.

So: i´m planning on udating mi switch to the latest firmware (officially) but i just learned that ReiNx (my preferred CFW) doesn´t support it. Is atmosphere working fine with the new releases (link´s awakening, the witcher)? Is Kosmos? Which firmware do you reccomend?

Hello i require some help. iv posted before but i understand my problem a little better now and can. during firmware upgrade i canceled it and lost the ability to boot cfw. i have full access to hekate and stock. i was upgrading from 7.1 to 8.1. My stock install now shows as 8.1. i have used a fresh sd card install and the issue still persist. i do not have a nand backup. i thought i had one but when i try to use it in hekate it fails and prompts me with errors. is downgrading my best option to get my switch back to normal functionally.

SX user here, I have updated twice using Choudijour with no issues but am nervous about going from 8.1 to 9.X mainly due to gc slot and fuse issues. I don’t understand anything about patches/sigpatches either. I also know there’s no games currently requiring 9.X but just trying to think ahead to future releases.
SX OS has patches built in. You only need external patches if you are using Atmosphere/Kosmos. I would also advise against updating to firmware 9.0 for now until more homebrew applications properly support it. Also ChoiDujour is a PC program that only supports up to firmware 6.1.

The only way to brick without CFW is to use a third-party dock.

You can try looking on their website if there is a way to retrieve your e-mail. Otherwise, you will have to call Nintendo.

No games require firmware 9.0. I recommend either updating or staying on firmware 8.1

Restore your NAND backup as long as you have BOOT0/BOOT1 and eMMC SYS/raw GPP (rawnand.bin). If you do not have all 3 files, you will have to use ChoiDujour to rebuild your NAND. Keep in mind it only supports up to firmware 6.1

Yes. But before get the latest ReiNX release on your sd card.

In short:
- Copy the recent ReiNX files to the sd card
- Copy the recent ChoiDujourNX to the sd card
- Extract and copy OFW files to sd card
- Run ChoiDujourNX to upgrade firmware

Do I have to power off the Switch and re-enter RSM mode before running ChoiDujourNX ?

Hi, I currently have OFW in 8.1 and an SX OS Emunand on 8.1 as well. I have SX OS v2.8.

I'm using:
  • OFW to play games online bought through eShop. I have an SD card (SD1) to fit in additional games.
  • Emunand on a different SD card (SD2) for everything else.
I'd like to update both Sysnand and Emunand to 9.0.1 but I've read about fuses burning and I want to make sure I do it the right way.

I need to keep my current setup the way it is to be able to use both Sysnand and Emunand and prevent console bans. I'd also like to keep my Emunand game saves intact in the process.

If I didn't care about downgrading software (as I understand it's only useful if I ever need to restore my NAND), what are the right steps to update each of them and which should I do first?

What if I want to be able to downgrade so I don't want to burn the fuses?

Thanks!

Is there a homebrew app which can display battery cycles and system temperature?
I think Hekate has the ability to display temperature? Other than that, I cannot think of any other applications that do what you want.

Personal information such as e-mail is not stored in the NAND. Those are stored server-side.

I'm super confused with creating a back up of the NAND. I did the SD Partition, it's a raw image. Does this mean I can't copy it from the SD card and save it on my PC as a back up? When ever I click that partition the PC just want's to format the hole time...
That is not how you back up the NAND. You use Hekate to dump the BOOT0/BOOT1 and eMMC raw GPP (or eMMC SYS if you want to converse space at the cost of save data).

t doesn't matter which one you update first but if you plan on updating your firmware to 9.0.1, you will need to update your CFW to the latest version before anything. You cannot burn fuses with emuNAND so it does not matter how you update it. However you can burn fuses with sysNAND so depending if you want to burn fuses or not, this is where you have to be careful in how you update.

ChoiDujourNX is the easiest and most used method of updating without burning fuses because there is little to no margin for error and it is an extremely streamlined application. It accomplishes this by enabling AutoRCM after finishing the firmware installation preventing the stock bootloader from activating. However since it requires the usage of CFW & homebrew, it is not the safest in terms of a ban. There are other ways of updating your firmware without burning fuses though.

The second method involves updating the console with AutoRCM enabled while running CFW. You may have asked, "If AutoRCM can be used to prevent fuses from being burnt, why not just update with AutoRCM already enabled?" The reason that is not possible is because system updates normally remove AutoRCM. However free CFW can prevent this. Installing a system update with AutoRCM enabled while running a free CFW will not remove AutoRCM thus preventing your fuses from being burnt. But this still requires the usage of CFW which means it still has a chance to ban your console. There is one more method of updating without burning fuses.

The last way involves manually applying AutoRCM after the system installs the system update. There is technically a way to prevent the stock bootloader from burning fuses without CFW and that involves putting the console into RCM before it has the chance. This is the safest method in terms of a ban since RCM and AutoRCM are next to undetectable but it is also the most dangerous as failing to boot into RCM will burn your fuses. If you wish to try this method, I recommend following this guide.

Thanks Draxzelex. I worked it out after watching a few more tutorials on Youtube.

One thing I'd like clarified is if I remove the SD card and boot up the Switch normally, is it completely vanilla and safe to run online? Or is there now a risk of being banned? Or is that risk only present when booting through hekate?

Thanks again.
