I'm confused. This is gbatemp, not GameFAQs. People here are typically familiar with the packing process of mod files. It's literally a few command lines to compile files and I'd hope no one needs to be told how long it takes to upload games this small.
Wow.

all they need to do is compile and upload...how is that not done in like 20 minutes of confirming the translation is complete? I mean in order to test that your text aligns right and doesn't flow over the text boxes etc. you have to compile and check shit out, rinse repeat.
You really have a skewed view of things.

I want to hear a technical response not some ignorant "find something to do and wait" or "they don't owe you anything" response. That just shows your lack of knowledge of the time it takes to compile and upload an NDS game and that you've got nothing to contribute to get this done.
If a technical response is what you need, then you'd be a part of the translation team. And packing/unpacking is still an issue some teams have to go through with, like the Yakuza Black Panther team. Since you're so good, why not go help that team instead of complaining here?

I found this thread some time ago. But I got busy and forgot to actually sign up. I had fun with the original (especially some of the banter between characters) and I look forward to seeing the banter in the translated sequel.

Ignore the people who are just saying "why can't you release now, its That simple!"

You didn't HAVE to translate it. You did, and like many others, we're all happy that you worked to translate it! So, you ran into a snag, real life happens to the best (and worst) of all of us.

Just try and keep us up to date. That's all we can ask.

I'd make a joke about naming my first kid after you as a way of saying thanks, but I'm not married. Hopefully it'll release before November, as October has been kinda meh for gamers in some areas. That'd be something that would make many of us quite happy. But, don't feel forced to push a release date. A game rushed is forever bad as the old saying goes.

I could never speak to the time it takes to translate, so I waited patiently for that to finish but after hearing that it's done and all they need to do is compile and upload...how is that not done in like 20 minutes of confirming the translation is complete? I mean in order to test that your text aligns right and doesn't flow over the text boxes etc. you have to compile and check shit out, rinse repeat.

I've played around with replacing assets and text in loads of ROMs including DS/NDS/cia files. It doesn't take long to compile. If you don't know how to do it I can link you some tutorials or just do it for you. I'd like to assume you already know how if you've already gone through a second pass and a few folks on here sound like they were in a beta. If the person with all the files is on vacay and can't get to it right now or you're putting on "finishing touches" to the translation just be more transparent so we know what we're really waiting on because compiling something as small as these games and uploading to gdrive or whatever doesn't really merit a post saying there's a delay...

Right now this is like the equivalent of saying "okay guys we just finished building this skyscraper (so I get it translation takes a ton of work and time...huge accomplishment...you're rockstars) but this isn't coming out today because I still need to put a load of clothes in the washer"..wut?...days later...

So you came all the way here and wrote this long ass message just to tell the fan translation team that they're lazy for not uploading the patch asap?
Well whooptidoo~ that is some high privileged shit you got there son.
Last time I checked this is GBAtemp not the U.S of A ~

Thanks for all your work on this. Really excited. I've been waiting literally years for this release, and at one point I didn't think I'd ever be able to play Exceed. A few more days won't hurt anything. Heck, another month or two won't hurt, I still haven't finished my replay of Endless Frontier. :D

Yeah. And that's the reason why Aestethode dropped development on pkmn adventure red, just for an example. This kind of plp doesn't help.

File extraction for the patch has begun :) Now even the team have to sit tight and wait!
Now I'm actually curious. Will the patch be a simple xdelta over the NDS rom, or do you have a more complex setting where the rom has to be unpacked for specific file replacement?

Asking because I recall a PSP patch developer having issues with patch size because he didn't pay attention to the TOC, and therefore, the delta between original and patched ISOs ended up being huge. A similar issue at play here?

(Sorry, fellow developer, my curiosity got me :D Feel free to ignore if it's too complex/annoying to explain ^^,, )

Just chiming in and giving my vote of confidence and support to the translation team. Continue the good work please, we appreciate all of it :)

BTW, do you need to play Endless Frontier before this game? I haven't played the that one (and I know it has a US release). One of my low-key favorite hobbies is playing fully fan translated games so this one seems next on my list. Though if it turns out I need to play EF first then this will be placed on the backburner lol.

RedL that's actually an important question.

I mean, if its not a "standard" xdelta patch, what will we need to do to patch it? A translation patch is great, but if it uses a non-standard method, we'll need to know it so we don't run into 1,742 posts about someone patching it the wrong way. Which would be a headache the translation team does NOT need.

Well, considering its a direct sequel involving many of the characters from the first game, you may end up doing some head scratching if you're new to the series. I'm playing through it right now to refresh my memory on all the events.

Sorry, I'm not a developer, just a proof reader, so I can't answer that. The betas we've used have just been a .nds file. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Ahhh I didn't realize it was a direct sequel, thought it may be like SMT Devil Survivor where there's no story connection between 1 and 2, only common plot elements. Thanks!

Hopefully it's just a simple method of:

1. Having the clean japanese nds rom file
2. Having the english patch the team releases
3. Using xdelta to patch the japanese nds rom with the english translation
