Is this compression for storage only? when installed on the switch, Will it decompress and be taking the same size as a normal nsp installed?

You need tinfoil 5.0 from tinfoil.io btw or sx installer:
  • 5.00
  • Added support for a new NSP compression format called NSZ, which can compress NSP's up to 80% smaller which reduces their storage footprint, and increases their install speed. The format is described here: https://github.com/blawar/nsz

Thanks for the answer.
Are USB install still possible with this compression format like with OG tinfoil? I don't really connect my switch to the internet.
And also is there a risk for Nintendo to make this new format unusable in the future or something? Like if someone want to change all of his library backup to this new format.

Nintendo cant break this format because it isnt used on the switch itself. Its installed as a normal NSP.

Thanks for the quick response again. For what I can tell Tinfoil needs a fork of Atmos included in the download. Is there plans for this to be implemented with vainilla atmosphere? Like with just an update of the OG tinfoil or Lithium for it to install NSZ with USB or SD

Will there be a way to tell the uncompressed size before installing an nsz in tinfoil/TX installer? Let's say I want to install a nsz file that's only 5GB on my nand with 10GB of space left. How will I know that game will fit or not after being decompressed onto the nand?

If you are using the file browser: no. if you are using new games section, the size displayed there should be uncompressed.

so this is useful only for the pc storage?
because i thought this is for the console storage
For installing also, because this compressed files are send to Switch and Switch is decompressing them. So you need less time to send it or install it through Wi-Fi/USB.
