Well I was very young at this time, and was bored looking for something to do, I was using a Windows Vista, and I downloaded two programs, one was some kind of Megaman X PC engine test (which I know think had the virus,) and my Antivirus I had said the program was a virus, I don't remember what type but the Antivirus prevented me from launching the program because of that, I'm pretty sure the creator said it wasn't a virus, to someone that had the same problem, so I turned off the Antivirus (dumb I know) and it launched, I think it was just a debug room with no enemies and music, but you could shoot, dash, and jump, the second program was Megaman Co-op, I don't remember if it launched or not without the Antivirus off, but I think I had problems getting it to launch. I turned off the PC that night, the next morning I turned it on, and it wouldn't finish loading, it was just a black screen around the middle part of the boot process, maybe one of the programs was built with an infected code manager or something.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I remember just downloading everything I saw and that's how I got a heck ton of viruses. Not sure what they were called, but needless to say soon that computer disappeared

I downloaded ImgBurn and after that it maxed out my CPU, with some program that started installing loads of crap! I just refreshed Windows and never happened again. Don't download freeware tools unless it's open source! ;)

I remember having a nasty virus, a ransomware. Had to roll back the machine and use several antivirus softwares to remove it. I was probably like 12 or 13 years old and using Windows 7.

The same happened a few weeks ago.I need it on an other PC and the Dreamcast plugin.I downloaded it from the "Official Site" and maybe overlooked to uncheck one "Additional Tool" on the Install Process. Thanks to an Restore Point on Windows nothing really happens. But as you say....not again.:)

I broke plenty of computers early on to the point where format and start over was the easier route but viruses is a hard one. Floppy discs at school might have done something, though most of that was getting in trouble for having floppy discs as the schools various feared them for that reason. I probably also had something during the "can't skip it" adware days but that would have been removed immediately afterwards. I have risked infection in my throwaway machines and VMs when doing various things (sometimes the viruses do actually do things I want, or contain info I want).

This is odd. I can tell you a lot of firsts in computers for me but first virus is not one of them.

The first one? Who knows... Before I had my private computer I saw my dad's Windows XP machine being filled with adware, random popups, the obligatory "your PC has been blocked by the FBI" (Polizia postale in Italian) like the ones you guys posted screenshots of before (I believe it was just a windows guide file locked to full screen), whatever crap the Softonic installer decided to put on the hard drive, and so on.
Most of those incidents happened because my dad refused to install a real antivirus while downloading crap from every website he came across.
Fortunately my uncle was always ready to format and reinstall everything, or maybe go in safe mode and check what happened.
Skipping becoming 10 years old and getting my first computer with windows 7 (which I still have), and using over and over the system recovery utility from all the noob errors I've done, the worst one I ever saw was surely the original Cryptolocker, but not on this PC:

My mom's office had a little network with two computers, and I now had enough knowledge so that everyone called me every time some piece of tech broke.
One day, I was coming home from secondary school, and she calls me, and talks about this weird window and how all* of the files got renamed; as she talked, I knew what was coming, coincidentally some days before I read an article about ransomwares, but I couldn't believe they were already in the wild...
The virus came from the secondary PC on the network, and then spread into my mom's one. It turns out, the secondary computer had the antivirus uninstalled by my dad! but I still don't know if it got through initially via some email or using some exploit... (Also, my dad was 100% anti system updates, because "they make internet slower" :glare:). From that time on, I was more careful with how the computers I came account were protected...
Now it isn't a problem anymore how many times my dad tries to open taxes.vbs

*Fortunately the database extension of the main program they used was not in the blacklist of things to encrypt, so they managed to get a copy and start clean again.

I got hit by ransomware when it first came out. Jokes on whoever attacked with it. It was a test pc I didn’t care much for that ended up getting a new boot drive ‍♂️

I've got TeslaCrypt just mere hours the master key was released in 2016, it came with a crack for some game.
Also, I've got some passwords and id's for some websites leaked online with the mayor info leakage of 2017.

EDIT: Also, maybe I've got Reveton (or maybe a variaton of it) before TeslaCrypt, but it was "easy" to uninstall. I dunno if it was because Adblocker or because it was a cheap copy of the original, but the iframe loop never triggered and I was able to close the browser. I remember that I got infected because watching porn, LOL.

MS Dos 6.22, Monkey2 virus and the Form Virus, 1996
Still got a copy on a floppy disk. They both rewrote the Boot sector and partition table. if you booted from a clean disk, you could not see the c drive lol. The form virus made a clicking sound every for every leyboard key press on 18th of the month through the pc speaker.
