.3dsx version or .cia? Which cores are you trying? Are they crashing immediately when you load them, or sometime later when playing a game?

I'll give Doom a try -- it looks like there are some games that still have specific crashing bugs. Brave Fencer Musashi is another one I've heard mentioned. If there are repeatable crashes, like in a certain game at a certain place, those are useful to know about and usually much more fixable.

There are also random crashes with pcsx_rearmed and gpSP that I think are dynarec related. They've been happening for as long as I've used those cores. I just started looking into them but I haven't had much luck debugging those yet. Sometimes I'll go days without seeing one, other times it seems like they'll happen every hour.
CIA, Doom crashes right after the intro when it says “loading”. Previously it played without issue. Other games just refuse to load at all. And the ones that do don’t have any additional bugs, when I get the chance I’ll post some more detailed information

For those having issues, try nightly 9/27, works perfectly for me. I haven't tried any new ones since then though.

I'm running the 10/8 nightly of psx rearmed, and the games work for the most part with default settings (I deleted the retroach.cfg file before launching the new version). However I'm struggling with R-Type Delta.
It goes down to 30fps or below, no matter what I try. My biggest issue is that I can't select an original system core. I have SCPH1001.BIN and thus named it properly, verified MD5 checksum, and place it inside retroarch/cores/system
I put other system roms there like PSXONPSP660.BIN
None of these show up when I want to select a different core. The only options I see are auto and hle (which I'm assuming is the built-in not so good core.)

All my games are in PBP format.

Another issue I have is that everytime I start a new game, a message shows that can take more than a minute "scanning [game file]"
Can this be fixed?

Basically PCSX Rearmed picks the correct bios for you according to the region either set by you or of the game. To make the psp bios work I just copied it and named it like all the bioses you're supposed to have. Ex. one would be named scph1001.bin, another scph101.bin, but they were all that same bios.

Does R-Type delta always run at 30fps? Does it use multitrack audio or is it just a single bin/cue?

I used your trick and it seems that R-Type Delta is running more smoothly now. Basically I tricked it into believing that PSXONPSP660.BIN is scph1001.bin. It still lingers around 30fps during gameplay. Lower in the intro video.

This is not ideal though because one should be able to actually select the real files.

Also, I'm using PBP format for the games.

Can you try the latest nightly? I just ran Doom with the 10/8 nightly, and it played great, audio and all (apart from some weird lighting effects).

Actually took me a few extra minutes to post this because I got started playing :-)

I used the 3dsx because it's more convenient for me, but if anything the CIA should be more reliable.

I got around 40 fps during gameplay with the usual settings:
nearest resampler
lowest audio quality
no vsync nor audio sync
.chd format
No lighting

It works great now, the PSX Doom is actually my favorite port of doom so I'm really excited to have this on the go. Being married with kids makes it difficult to actually sit down and do any gaming lol! FBA seems more stable now than it used to (metal slug 3 didn't crash while loading which is nice). I didn't ever try the nightly builds I only tried the stable one, thank for helping me out with this!

I know what you mean, that's exactly why my Switch lives in portable mode!

This new build of retroarch and the core is a godsend.

Games I tested:
SotN: works near flawlessly. Previous builds (Arch and Core from july 2019) had issues with sound and fps even when using pbp files. Best example i can give is the Wargs and Amphisbaena gave lag after killing or while in its presence however, with the recent core the lag is eliminated.

Tales of Phantasia: worked fine in battles and town as far as fps goes (I was at the beginning so Idk how bad fps will be once spells and other stuff fill the screen), but the overworld was laggy as well as the encounter screen. Sound also was laggy/buggy. The new retroarch eliminates most issues. There still seems to be lag on the overworld screen and when getting into battles but its far better than the previous core.

X4: No issues in intro stage or videos. Dunno if there was a problem with previous cores but this works without issue so far.

Gradius Gaiden: Again Idk how this game worked with the previous cores. The game has lag while choosing ship type but its nothing that will prevent you from progressing. Only got to stage 3. There was some lag but usually a bit before getting to the actual stages. Other than that it plays mostly fine.

CapvSNK Pro: (Insert dunno about previous cores) Game is fine on menu screen but when selecting characters its laggy similar to Gaiden's ship select screen. In game runs fine. I only tried the ayutthaya stage and there seemed to be a slight bit of lag before health bars appeared but the rest was ok.

Looking for some validation based on an issue I encountered with Spyro 2.

I had been running a nightly build (late September) but hadnt done much with it and decided on weekend to play a few rebuilt images in CHD format. I got Spyro 2 running really well I got to 4% complete, could save etc and was stoked but then I encountered a crash - it happens when entering Colossus after the cutscene is shown at which point I get booted back to 3ds home menu.

I tried uninstalling the nightly CIA build of pcsx rearmed and installing the latest stable instead. Deleted config files too. But the issue remains plus Destruction Derby Raw crashes hard (ARM11 exception) and it was working really well before.

Can anyone confirm that they have played Spyro 2 past the point I mentioned above?

My next steps are to blow away the retroarch folder and take fresh from latest stable build. I'm also wondering if my CHD conversion is bad so could try converting to PBP instead.

Does that sound about right?

The biggest pain with moving to a fresh retroarch install is the painfully slow FTP transfer of thousands of files in the retroarch folder. Is there a trick to this?

Well that didn't get me anywhere further. I renamed my retroarch folder to "retroarch old", copied over retroarch folder from 1.7.9 package and installed 1.7.9 core CIA for pcsx rearmed. I copied bios files over and they are being recognised. I still get a crash at the same spot in Spyro 2 after starting over and Destruction Derby Raw is still crashing.

I assume there is nothing wrong with my installation if I can play Spyro 2 for a fair amount of time before the crash back to home menu occurs?

Use the 10-8 nightly build

Yes! You did it. I love you!

Is this a process then - people swap in and out of builds and find a "good" one which provides the most stability for the games they want to play? And do I have it correct that you need to start each time with a fresh retroarch folder structure? I didn't this time because a file compare revealed that only the .cia files and .png files were different (and I doubt the pngs differed - probably a problem with the tool I used)

Anybody mind doing me a favor and testing any of the following games?

Grandia
Guardian's Crusade
Legend of Legaia
Parasite Eve

These are the main games that I'd like to try, but I've just moved into a new dorm building and need to actually find and unpack my 3DS. It would be nice to know ahead of time what to expect, my class schedule has a space between classes where it's long enough to be bored out of my mind without something to do, but not long enough to walk all the way to my dorm and back and still have enough time to do anything worthwhile in between.

im playing Grandia and works great in N3ds ^^

I'm trying to get the CPS3 emulator to play nice and the only games I can get to work are Red Earth and SF3 Second Impact. The first is quite slow the latter is a bit better but still slower than I'd like. Are there any specific settings or options that need changing to make things run a bit smoother?

I keep trying different settings with the PCSX Rearmed too with varying results. I wondered if there is any guide to the settings for that too?

Using a New 2DS XL.

Try using the cia version. It'll not be 60fps, but better than the 3dsx version.
