My old 500 gb hard drive died out on me, so I went and bought a hard drive enclosure to use my 160 gb internal on my Wii. After a lot of trial and error, I managed to get games to boot on Wiiflow and Nintendont, but I really hate Wiiflow's GUI so I want to use USB Loader GX, but my hard drive isn't seen in GX or WiiXplorer. Is there a way I can fix this so I can go back to using my preferred loader?

Hello.:)

To help you, may I ask you some questions

Did you use the correct USB Port on your Wii for USBLoader GX ?

The next Question to to narrow down your issue:

How is your HDD recognized and formatted please ?

Please check of the Drive Type (MBR or GPT - it should MBR in your case - 160 GB)

img_56e628d28bd5b.png.pagespeed.ce.QTfQCBsn-5.png img_56e6297886fee.png.pagespeed.ce.OAzLplkJBg.png

It is recommended to format your HDD with FAT32.
Did your HDD Enclosure has an external Power Supply ?
Maybe the USB Power from the Wii is not sufficient.

Which Version of the USBLoader GX did you have installed please ?
(You can check this on the Homebrew Channel when you choose the USBLoader GX on the Info Message Screen.)

The next Thing you can verifiy please:

On which IOS is your USBLoader running:

In the Settings -> Global Settings -> Loader Settings -> scroll down to Loader´s IOS please:

P1060426.JPG P1060427.JPG

If it is 58 you can change it to 249 and if it is 249 change it to 58 please.

Also please check the Hard Drive Settings.

P1060426.JPG P1060428.JPG
Then Restart the USBLoader GX and try it.

Please check ALL of this points.
And if you be so kind, please give us a Feedback.

If this all not helps,we can look at your Wii´s Softmod with an sysCheck.

Thank you.:)

I am indeed using the correct USB port, the one closest to the edge. My hard drive is formatted as Fat32, but I cannot check if it is MBR or GPT due to being on a Chromebook, and having forgotten to check when I formatted on another Windows computer. The hard drive should not need an external power supply, as the same drive works perfectly in Wiiflow, and the same enclosure with a 1 tb drive works fine in USB Loader GX (Nintendont doesn't see it though, so that's another issue). My USB Loader GX version is 3.0 r1268, tried both IOS249 and IOS58 (249 is default) and neither worked. I did attempt initializing the hard drive through the Hard Drive settings, also did not work

Thank you for your reply and your assistance.:)

To understand you correct:
The 160GB HDD in the Enclosure actual works with WiiFlow.
But not with USBLoader GX.Maybe really this MBR/GPT Thing.:(
Did you try to reset the Loaders Settings or delete the "GXGlobal.cfg" in SD Card:\apps\usbloader_gx ?

If you like you can update to v3.0 1272.Please do this manually:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

Could you please so kind and post a sysCheck for us to look over your Wii´s Softmod ?
Only to get sure all is fine with your Wii.:)

Please use this Version:

Thank you for your help.:)

Thank you for your sysCheck.:)

A Suggestion is to update these cIOSes please - especially your IOS249 needs a Base of 56 to works correctly with the USBLoader GX.

IOS248[37] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS249[37] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS250[57] (rev 65535, Info: rev 18): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

to

IOS248[55] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Trucha Bug, NAND Zugriff, USB 2.0
IOS249[56] (rev 21, Info: d2x-v10beta52): Trucha Bug, NAND Zugriff, USB 2.0
IOS250[57] (rev 21, Info: d2x-v10beta52): Trucha Bug, NAND Zugriff, USB 2.0
IOS251[58] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Trucha Bug, NAND Zugriff, USB 2.0

You can use the d2x cIOS Installer (you can get it with ModMii) or ModMii itself for Updating your Softmod.:)
https://gbatemp.net/threads/modmii-for-windows-official-support-topic.207126/

Then please set the Loader IOS from USBLoader GX to 249 (if it is not already set).

Good Luck.
Thank you.:)

Your sysCheck is alright now, very good work.:yaywii:

Your sustained Issue makes me thinking of the MBR/GPT Thing again. It would be really advisable to check that out please.
Maybe this helps you on your Chromebook to achive this:
https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chromiumos-design-docs/disk-format

https://forums.tomsguide.com/faq/manage-create-drive-partitions-in-chromebook.27664/

Did your HDD has maybe more than one Partition ?

Thank you.:)

I think it is GPT, which might explain my issues with USB Loader GX and Wiixplorer. I'll have to look into a way to get it MBR without a Windows computer. Thank you so much for the help!
