Zero apologies for bumping this thread....

I recently purchased a New 3DS XL Galaxy Style from the USA, yeah I know they're old but I still love this console and always wanted this design.

Now I ran 3dsident on the console and it tells me that both upper and lower panels are TN which really shocked me because I would swear that the upper screen is IPS becuase it looks that good.

I've also had many, many New 3DS XL's pass through my hands over the years, perhaps 25+ and have seen IPS and TN's many times so my eye is fairly well trained tbh, which is why I am so shocked

I messaged Joel16 and he states that the software is 100% accurate (I have no reason to doubt such a well respected developer nor the software as I've always trusted it) but this upper panel just seems so nice

Cannot get my head around it, but the software clearly states upper and lower TN

Has anybody else every encountered a situation where you believe you have an IPS but the software tells you otherwise ?

Yup, new3DSXL, and the screen is too good to be IPS. But I can definitely differentiate IPS between the new3DSXL screens. If the colors or the contrast morph if you look at the screen from the very top or very bottom (left to right doesn't work, it looks the same, this is what fools people) then it's a TN. For IPS, you have to be able to see the screen even from the dust particles on the screen.

I don't think this works anymore. Gui just shows a white screen (kinda makes it obvious if the screen is ips or not) normal version crushes on opening.

Should I get the GUI or original version? I mainly just want this to see the battery indicaitor as a % instead of a bar.

Whichever you think looks nicer I suppose, they both show the battery as a percent.

Though you can also just update to the latest Luma3DS version and it'll show the battery as a percentage in the Rosalina (L + Down + SELECT) menu. That way you can see it without even needing to quit the game or such.

I never knew that. Thanks. Is there a way to be able to see battery percentage while using a DS flashcart? I pressed the home menu and tried the button combo but it didn't work.

Edit: When trying it on a 3DS game it froze my game but the music was playing.

Unfortunately, there isn't. In DS mode the battery is only reported as low or high and in DSi mode it's only 5 levels, if you use nds-bootstrap you can see a slightly more detailed battery indication from its in-game menu (also L + Down + SELECT by default), but its still limited to just a few levels. With a flashcard the battery light is the best you can get.

I think it can be a little buggy at times, for maximum stability probably safer to exit to the HOME Menu before opening the Rosalina menu, it should usually be fine though so it might just be that one game or that one part of the game.
