I asked this days ago in the Retroarch thread and never got help. I have the chd and the zip and they are from mame 078. I have tried with the chd in the same folder as the zip, I have tried with the chd in folder kinst. I have tried MAME 2003 plus I have tried regular MAME 2003. No matter what of those options I try I get error "the software was closed because an error occured."

People have said it works so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

It is it a zip and there's a chd too. I got it from the site that has the complete mame 2003 (which is mame 078) set of roms.

Hmm I never used a chd on mame did you try a newer mame than 2003?

I know in retroarch there were several different mame emulators

There's only MAME 2000, MAME 2003 and MAME 2003 Plus in Retroarch. There is no newer MAME.

I'm not interested in it working on Lakka. It does work but it lags.

they just dont work. i have several romsets with tested games, most of them (well, all those that i tested) work, including neo geo ones, but neither kinst nor kinst2 work in ra. They also crash on pc (tried several mame cores and fb alpha). Googled some ppl admitted they just dont work. so idk, just play sens ver

You need files specific to MAME '03 (0.78) and '03 Plus with a working modern ROMset, rollback ROMs, and clrmamepro.

We can't help you here; find out yourself how to get the right ROMsets and how to operate rollbacks and clrmamepro here (using a .DAT file generated by MAME '03+ itself via the in-game menu).

Even then, KI running through MAME '03+ is pretty trashy. So not sure why you're going through the effort here.

I got it working, but yeah it's not perfect. It's halfway decent with 1 frameskip on though but the sound is still kinda meh.

I used grabman's video for help. Got the zip and chd from a certain site that had every mame 2003 rom. Created a folder on the root of sd card /roms created a folder in it /mame 0.78 and put kinst.zip in there, and created a folder kinst and put kinst.chd in there.

I remember u64emu was better for Killer Instinct games . But I'm really not pleased about the framerate , even in KI2 . Not because of the emulator, but the game itself , it was made this way . Street Fighter 2 from '91 has a better framerate , i swear . I wonder if there is a way to improve the framerate by software .

If you read the thread I figured out how to get it working months ago, someone just bumped it to complain about the framerate, you have your moments too.

Ok got ki 1 to run 60fps (Not locked) and no stutter on sound. FMV still has slight stutter. If I remember correctly the arcade FMV wasn't that smooth.

Settings
Hard GPU Sync Frames = 1

Load game go to options and set frameskip = 1

Running tits now

Gonna test ki2

Ki2 still runs a lil slow

Anyone found a better way to run KI 1? arcade?
I've been using this method for the past year but really wish there was a better way. One thing I learnt is that the video stuttering has to do with this version of the rom dump as its the same on a PC emulator, but mame 2010 with the mame 2010 romset on PC has super smooth video.
