I'm not responsible for any Bricks or Data Loss!

If for some reason you can't perform one the options (missing NAND Backup, etc...) or don't wan't to, use one of the other ones in that Category.
If you need to find out the TitleID for an IOS look here under 00000007 and 000700xx: Virtual Wii titles.

vWii NAND Restorer

I have now released vWii NAND Restorer!
This is probably the easiest way to fix any vWii Brick if you have a NAND Backup!
If you don't have a NAND Backup check out vWii Decaffeinator! vWii Decaffeinator allows you to restore any IOS by downloading the IOS with a forced System Update.

Extract your NAND Backup

Some of the steps require your vWii NAND backup (SLCCMPT) and keys.bin/keys.txt/otp.bin.
Follow the steps below if you have a NAND Backup and need it for one of the steps.

DumpMiiNand Nand dumps don't work for me. I get an error when trying to extract them.
If you want to backup your vWii NAND properly use Wii U Nanddumper to dump your SLCCMPT and xyzzy to backup your keys.
  1. Download the latest release of Wii U Nand Extractor. Linux or Mac users may be able to use WINE here.
Extract the NAND Extractor.exe to a Folder on your PC.
  2. Copy your nand.bin/slccmpt.bin and your keys.bin/keys.txt to this folder.
  3. Open the NAND Extractor.exe.
  4. Click on File > Open and select your backup.
Your keys should be read automatically if they're called keys.bin/keys.txt.
If not, go to File > Enter NAND Key and enter your NAND Key.
  5. Go to File > Extract All and your nand gets extracted to a folder named like your backup file.

Setup FTPiiU Everywhere

Some of the steps require FTPiiU Everywhere.
Follow the steps below if you haven't set up FTPiiU Everywhere already and need it for one of the steps.
  1. Download ftpiiu everywhere.
Mocha users should use this version. Extract the .zip to the root of your SD Card.
Haxchi/CBHC users this version. Rename the ftpiiu.elf to ftpiiu_everywhere.elf and place it on your SD Card under "/wiiu/apps/ftpiiu_everywhere/".
  2. Run CFW on your Wii U and go to the Homebrew Launcher.
  3. Start FTPiiU_Everywhere.
Your IP should be displayed there.
  4. On your PC start a FTP Client like FileZilla.
  5. Enter your IP only up to the colon in the "Host:" field. And the two numbers after it in the "Port:" field.
Leave everything else blank and press "Quickconnect".
  6. You should see your Wii Us Nand. Do not modify anything here or you can brick!

IOS Brick

If you have a corrupted IOS (for example when you tried to install Wii cIOS) follow one of the options below.

vWii still working
If your vWii still works but one of the IOS is broken follow one of the options below.
The steps below require a clean .wad of the corrupted IOS on your SD Card. You can dump it from another console using Yet Another BlueDump Mod.

Homebrew Channel working
If your HBC works (you still have IOS58), run a wad manager (for example Some YAWMM Mod) to reinstall the broken IOS.

Homebrew Channel not working
If HBC doesn't work, is missing or can't be reinstalled using hackmii installer, BUT you have IOS58 and forwarder channel (forwarder for USBloaderGX, Wiiflow or any other homebrew) follow the steps below.
  1. On your PC replace the target's boot.dol with the wad manager's boot.dol (for example Some YAWMM Mod)

  2. Install the clean vWii IOS using the wad manager.
If HBC doesn't work, is missing or can't be reinstalled using hackmii installer, and you don't have IOS58 or any forwarder channel installed follow the steps below.

If you have vWii cIOS 236:
  1. Perform a game exploit or use wuphax to launch SD:/boot.elf.
Replace Hackmii installer's boot.elf with the boot.elf of this wad manager.
  2. Your wad manager should start.
  3. Reload to cIOS236, which gives IOS installation permission, and install the needed clean vWii IOS.
If you have vWii d2x cIOS:
  1. Perform a game exploit or use wuphax to launch SD:/boot.elf.
Replace Hackmii installer's boot.elf with the boot.elf of this .7z.
Place the V58i.wad on your SD Card.
  2. Your wad manager should start.
  3. Choose any d2x cIOS slot, which only has permission for non system WADs.
  4. Install the special channel (V58i.wad).
  5. Return to vWii system menu and launch the newly added channel.
That channel contains a wad manager which can now install IOS files thanks to granted AHB access.

vWii not working
If your vWii is not working but one of the IOS is broken follow one of the options below.

No NAND Backup required

The steps below create a WiiU WiiVC channel with a vWii Wad Manager to install clean versions of the vWii IOS. Credits: @Cyan
The steps below require a clean .wad of the corrupted IOS on your SD Card. You can dump it from another console using Yet Another BlueDump Mod.
  1. Download the WiiU VC injector script (requires .NET framework). Linux or Mac users may be able to use WINE here.
  2. Download this (v)Wii Wad manager.
  3. Download WupInstaller_gx2 and copy the contents to the root of your sd card.
  4. If you need to reinstall IOS58, you need the clean vWii IOS58 v6432.wad
if you need to reinstall any other IOS, you also need a clean vWii IOS wad for it.
    copy the wad to "SD:/wad/".
  5. Launch the TeconMoon's WiiVC Injector.exe.
  6. Select "Wii Homebrew Injection" mode.
  7. Click on the "Game..." button, and select the "boot.dol" you got in step 2.
  8. You'll have to select some banners/icon that will be used for your created channel. They will be displayed on your WiiU system menu.
I updated the ones provided by @antnida. You can download them here. Or you can download the original ones by antnida here.
Or if you want your own pictures, you'll have to choose 2 different tga pictures with the right size (the script will convert to correct tga format automatically).
You can find more samples here.
  9. On the "Game Pad/Meta Options" tab,
You'll have to choose a name for your created channel, so let's call it "vWii wad manager" or "YAWMM".
It should generate a random titleID for you (this is good, don't try to change it).
  10. Go to "Build Title" tab
Fill in the text fields the WiiU common key (google) and the "Rhythm Heaven Fever" USA game key (wiiu key website, google it too), and when all requirements are displayed in green, click on the "Build" button to build the channel.
  11. Put the generated files into your SD:
    SD:
    /install/wiiWadmanager/<Put.appAndOtherFilesHere> .
  12. Launch your WiiU in CFW mode (CBHC, haxchi, or anything else which is NOT redNAND, like sigpatcher2sysmenu or sigpatcher2hbl).
  13. Launch WUP installer GX2 from Homebrew launcher and install the generated channel to your WiiU.
  14. Still with CFW enabled, launch the installed channel.
Your WiiU will boot in vWii mode, with the WAD manager from step 2 launched automatically without going through the vWii Homebrew Channel nor even requiring IOS58.
Install the clean vWii IOS with the WAD manager.
Done!

The injector will change the color of the field from red to green.
it will not let you create the channel with a bad key.

• Why use the script injector? can't someone else who already created the channel share it for others to use?
No, sorry. you need to build the channel yourself as you can't share ready to install channels here.
WiiU WiiVC contains nintendo's copyrighted code and files.

NAND Backup required
The Paths below are for IOS80 if you installed a different IOS you need to find the Path for it here under 00000007 and 000700xx: Virtual Wii titles or overwrite the whole "\slccmpt01\title\00000001\" folder with your backup which will replace all your titles with the backup.
For the second Part of the Id look at the Region column.

  1. In FileZilla locate to "\slccmpt01\title\00000001\00000050\".
Go to the same path in your extracted NAND folder.
  2. Replace the content folder with the clean one from your backup.

vWii System Menu Brick

If you have a System Menu Brick (for example when you tried to install Priiloader) follow the steps below.
The steps below require a extracted NAND Backup, if you dont have one follow these steps.
The Paths below are for my EUR Console you need to find the Path for your Region here under 00000007 and 000700xx: Virtual Wii titles.
The 00000007 may be US, my European one only has 00000001.

  1. In FileZilla locate to "\slccmpt01\title\00000001\00000002\content\".
Go to the same path in your extracted NAND folder.
  2. Replace 00000022.app and 00000023.app with the clean ones from your backup folder.

Brick from corrupted Channel

If you have a corrupted Channel (for example when you tried to install Wii Channels) follow the steps below.

  1. In FileZilla locate to "\slccmpt01\title\00000001\<TitleID>\" without the <>.
  2. Delete the folder

Replace SLCCMPT

If the steps above didn't helped you or you're just lazy there is a quick and dirty way of replacing your SLCCMPT.
The steps below require a extracted NAND Backup, if you dont have one follow these steps.

  1. In FileZilla locate to "\slccmpt01\".
  2. Delete every folder in it.
  3. Copy every folder of your NAND Backup in there.
You now need to set the right permissions for the folders.
You can do this by simply running slccmpt fixer. More information here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/slccmpt...ctly-from-your-console-testers-needed.560506/
If this does not work for you follow the steps below:

[*]Download MochaCFW and this config file for it (Right Click > Save As...).
[*]Copy the contents of the mocha.zip to the root of your SD card and the config.ini to the /wiiu/apps/mocha/ folder on your SD card.
[*]Download Python (If the latest version doesn't work try using Python 2.7) and save the wupclient.py on a folder on your PC (Right Click > Save As...).
[*]Open wupclient.py with some kind of text editor and replace 192.168.0.197 in line 30 with your Wii Us IP and leave the port as it is.
[*]On your wii u start the Homebrew Launcher (CBHC Users have to press the Home button while boot and start the Homebrew Launcher from there).
[*]Run MochaCFW and you should return to the Homebrew Launcher. You're running now wupserver in the background.
[*]On your PC run Command Prompt and type "cd <PathToFolderContainingWupclient.py>" without the <>. Press Enter to continue.
[*]Type py -i wupclient.py and press Enter again.
    [*]Enter the Command below:
    Code:
    mount_sd()
    mount_slccmpt01()
    def do_folder(path):
        results = w.ls(path, return_data = True)
        for result in results:
            w.chmod(path + '/' + result['name'], 0x666)
            if not result['is_file']:
                do_folder(path + '/' + result['name'])

    do_folder('/vol/storage_slccmpt01')
    unmount_slccmpt01()
    unmount_sd()
This will set the correct permissions for the folders.
Info

This is still WIP and I will try to keep it up-to-date.
If I did something wrong or missed something please let me know! Hope that it will help someone.

First I’d like to say Hi Everyone & I wasn’t sure if I should just send a reply here or open another brand new thread but I’m just gonna explain it all now via here & hopefully get some guidance on what to do & where to go next
I have tried for a few days now to try & get some information on here that will help me out of this nightmare of a situation I've currently got myself into with my VWii! I think I might have semi bricked my vwill, I have copied & pasted all the most relevant information below as this is far easier than retyping everything out again for at least the 5h time but when it's this long winded it's just taken me absolutely forever to write out lol & I've had very minimal response from anyone but I think this forum is definitely more suited to my needs At the moment! So I think I'm now finally in the right place to get he help I need please.

Sorry this is quite a long description what I've put below but it includes everything I'm sure that has happened to mywiiu over the last couple of days. Thanks in advance also for any info that can be passed over to help me out here ok this is now the last thread I posted yesterday morning & Only 1 reply I have gotten but no answers or help yet unfortunately & hence why I’m now here asking for your help instead please. Thank you once again upfront to everyone if you can help me or just even tell me what is going on with my vwii please

I saw a question on another link 2 days ago that asked if it was ok to install iOS 236 after installing iOS 80 on vwii & the reply back was yeah it’s totally fine to do so and guess what! Yep I decided to do it also for some stupid reason as I don't really know what I'm doing anyhow still really Fully tbh but I've now ended up with a load of iso wads which I have no idea about what to do with but I can't access the hbc or wiimc (my only 2 channels on vwii) I thought it was bricked at 1st but I can still get into vwii (not our mind) & just not into hbc or wiimc even though the icons are still there but we’re moved over to the sd card secretion rather than the Wii menu? so I can't access any of my vwii apps & I think I have all the wads from 9 up to 80 from iOS 80 patch (as I also got a couple of wad folders also) but I did have 4 more for ios236 (think they were 248, 249, 250 & 251 but I'm not 100% sure on those exact numbers but there defanitly in that region & as for those 4 iso wads I’m not sure if I even still have them or deleted them by accident as I can’t locate them with the other ones that are in 1 was folder! The wiiu side appears absolutely fine & all I'm wanting to do is eventually get all my gc, Wii & Wii u games all on 1 had. I tried wiivc injector. At 1st but think I'm missing a lot of other things I need before going that route as all I have is my games on cleanrip iso files or gc &wii & my Wii u games are already uploaded 50+ from wup installer gx2 which I did a few months back. Can some one please help me out here please I don’t want to end up totally wrecking this machine lol. I totally forgot also that I had already put an iOS 80 patch on my vwii last year when I followed wiiu hacks guide so to do the 236 the 80 Again is defanitly what’s gone wrong here but at least I don’t think (touch wood) it’s totally bricked like I say but I seriously need a helping hand please many thanks up front

Sorry if I have missed any essential details out up front guys!

Please don't tell you installed wii ioses into wiiu vwii...
Hi mate, I know the original iOS 80 patch I did months ago was defanitly vwii but stupidly I was also watching a video on YouTube & downloaded a few files & that is kinda how it started but I’m pretty certain they were at least meant to be vwii not Wii iOS but I did notice there was a 236 file popped up later in one of my folders that was from 2011 so that was obviously a normal Wii iOS but I can’t honestly say if I installed it or not but I don’t think so & certainly not knowingly. I’ve been on & off doing this for over a year now & ive still practically not even done that much on the vwii side of the machine until the other week day when I started off again but more so the last week or so as I just want it sorted now but because I haven’t been able to follow a guide & just go by what I’ve seen on other threads it’s got me really confused at times tbh & I ended up with so many duplicate files of things the other day I didn’t know wether I was coming or going lol. Does this sound like it could be issues from Wii iOS like pal?

Also I only realised after watching the video on YouTube again that it was for a past version I’ve 5.51 where I started off this on at least 5.52 or 5.53 a year ago doh it’s ended up being just an absolute nightmare tbh & 10 times more difficult than I first thought it would be lol

I’ve now just tried using the hbl-hbc forwarder to see if that would work & after quite a delay it took me straight back to the Wii u menu

Thinking about this more now also, there is also the possibility that everything was installed correctly & with only vwii iOS not Wii as more & more I think about this everything really started happening & especially not being able to access the hbc & wiimc when I l thought I accidentally deleted iOS 236, 249, 250 & 251 by mistake, I need to look for these files in my trash, sd card etc but would doing that alone cause the issue with not being able to access hbc & wiimc channel & I also have a private folder now on the root of my sd card that wasn’t there before this happnend also?? Thanks

So you installed some random IOS from YouTube Videos and now you can't access any Homebrew applications, but you can go into the vWii Home menu? Do you have a Backup of your vWii? If youve followed wiiu.hacks.guide you should have one. And if you can't access the Homebrew Channel how did you get that SysCheck?

It would help if you could give a steb-by-step list of what you did before the issues.

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying but il try & go through everything now but there’s a few things that happnend within a timescale but I’m pretty sure I know which one it was what has caused this & sorry but I also remembered I did a backup off all my wiiu homebrew apps a few weeks ago so I thought that might have done something to wuphax so I’ve been trying to get all the files correct like how they were when u first set it up & ive just literally done was he wuphax inject then went into my vwii side where the hbc & wiimc channel are showing up but when I went into the mii channel nothing happens apart from a black screen for a short while with lots of grey boxes, looks maybe like the sd card channel or similar edition hen it takes me straight back to the vwii menu & it’s exactly the same when I click on the hbc & wiimc channel ie it just doesn’t connect through to anything past the vwii system menu? I took a video so I’m gonna try & upload it now.

It won’t let me upload & ive tried shrinking it down so here’s some pix instead

I think I do have a backup of the original nand but only 1 file that’s about 553mb I think as I had an issue then I’m uploading via nand dumper so I had to use a diffirent dump app but I defanitly have also the keys, Otp & seeprom im sure. I did manage to do a backup recently as I changed my sd card to a larger one so I managed to get the MLC then also but the original is about just over a year old I think. & sorry il try & explain a step by step process but omg I’ve had to post this on diffirent threads before you replied & it was just getting longer & longer but started becoming a lot clearer also & basically I think what happened is when I went to apply the 236 patch that it was then this happenend because I think it might have been v6 version & not v8 vwii special edition that I applied as I didn’t realise both were in my system?? Would that have caused this though as I think it had more to do with one of those wad manager programs as when I clicked on one it took me to a list where I had to adjust loads of numbers, think it was iOS by what I remember from the video but I can’t 100% remember At the moment but defanitly some kind of file system! Now it was when I went from there into somewhere else on my files & I noticed all these iOS.wad files there & then thats when it appeared more to not be doing anything. Sorry but that sys check I also found by accident by console coming up on my Mac & I noticed it was in relation to the Wii u which I had no idea I could do that but I just pressed enter & it did it automatically. I’m sure that was all I had to do tbh as how do u normally have to do 1 like? Thanks also for your help :-)

sorry I’ve just remembered also that i got a message I’m sure saying how I could use the sd card menu in vwii to make channels or something similar to that also ??? I did think earlier that I might have just forgot to update the bootmii, or wuphax or something easy that slipped my mind but I’ve tried everything again now & it’s still exactly the same & hence how it’s not just the hbc but also the mii channel that’s not connecting through & letting me in any further!!! Thanks again also :-)

I FOUND THE ORIGINAL NAND DUMP I DID LAST YEAR! I’l post it below in a separate reply.
&
All I'm actually wanting to do is get my GC & WII games up on the wiiu sys menu like all my 50+ wiiu games that I've set up already a few months back. There all my own discs & when I first heard about teconmoons vc injector for them I thought fab but omg I've just had nightmare scenarios 1 after another as I had loads of issues with that also as I couldn't find a simple a-b guide so it was guess work I was doing hence not 1 I managed to get after weeks of trying also lol

As soon as I had added those was managers to my apps then that is when all those iOS.wad files came through which Il send a pic of but like I say 236, 249, 50 & 251 are missing & there the ines I think I accuentky deleted but what exactly are wads as are these files the original iOS files? As it's done exactly the same I'm my controller folder also? I doubled the amount I'm sure but those are .ini files?? Thanks man

Ok I have added more photos (sorry just re editing them removing some details) in regards to this also & note how in the controller ones that the original files are named by actual controller name but these extra ones are all just numbers & that the iOS ones go up to 80 but there are 2 @ iOS 53 & one is a ticket? I have no idea what these are but I’m presuming there just mimicking the iOS & are t actually them but it was these that those 4 I mentioned have dissapeared from ie 236, 249, 250 & 251 & it’s all around that point that I couldn’t get into the hbc, mii maker channel or any vwii channel? Thank you

Sorry for the really late reply...

I think I do have a backup of the original nand but only 1 file that’s about 553mb
That is the right size for the nand backup of your vwii! Perfect.

I FOUND THE ORIGINAL NAND DUMP I DID LAST YEAR!
And you also have the keys! So you should be able to extract the nand and follow this Nand backup requiered section. Start with IOS58 because this is the problem here i guess. And than do a SysCheck and replace every other problematic IOS.

How to extract the backup and how to setup FileZilla can be found in the beginning of the guide.

I came back to this to have another stab at trying to unbrick my vWii and finally done it this time!

What i done is get hold of another Wii U console and hooked it up to ftp using Wii U ftp everywhere and copied the entire slccmpt01 folder and everything in it. Once copied i connected the bricked WiiU via ftp and deleted all folders inside slccmpt01. Then copied the folder/files over that i just took from the good WiiU (like for like swap). Once copied i ran the python script as mentioned in GaryOlderNichts guide 'Replace SLCCMPT'.

Soon as i did all this i tried launching vWii and viola!! All working again!!!!!

Hello,

Thank you for all of your time and help with this topic. I do need some help regarding unbricking my vWii. I followed the guide in the "Unbricking vWii System Menu" and it did not work. I am using my own "slccmpt.bin" backup but I am still not having any luck. I don't know how I bricked my vWii but I think it has something to do with IOS80, because I cant boot into the vWii. All it does when I start it from the Wii U is just sit on a black screen. I would really appreciate if anybody can help me.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

I have a question about one part of guide : restoring the IOS saved with Yet Another BlueDump Mod is advised for all IOS, except the 'System Menu' files (the advice in this case is to use a dump of the whole WiiU NAND and extract 2 files from there). Could you please explain why this specific procedure?' Is 'System Menu v4.3 (v610) (vWii)' not considered as a typical IOS? I mean what would happen if I used a wad manager to try to install directly the 'System Menu v4.3 (v610) (vWii)' on the semi-bricked console?

My issue is that I manage to get all the Wads of IOS from another WiiU, to try to solve a partial brick of my vWii (see this thread), but reinstalling IOS80 didn't solve the issue. So the next thing to do seems to reinstall the system menu files.
For some reason the WiiU NAND Dumper v0.3 doesn't work on the non-brick WiiU: when I press A to launch the backup, the WiiU reboots (NB: I'm using Mocha CFW/Browserhax, not Haxchi; I tried with the version from Github and the version on the HB Appstore). So I can't follow the guide here.
I don't have the dump of the WiiU NAND whose vWii is semi-bricked, because when I soft modded it almost two years ago, I followed a guide which advised to do a NAND Backup in the vWii mode (likely with DumpMiiNand, but I'm not sure of that). And I only became aware recently that this kind of dump is quite useless from a practical point of view (for example I can't extract its content with nandextract-0.1.3).

Is there a way to extract the 2 files to replace (00000022.app and 00000023.app) from the System Menu v4.3 (v610) (vWii).wad file? I didn't manage with ShowMiiWads 1.4, but I'm a noob in this kind of exercice, and maybe it is not the good soft to do that

Another option I thought about (based on various threads I read in this forum) is to connect to the clean WiiU-vWii using FTPiiU Everywhere, take the 2 files in the directory indicated in the guide, hten copy them in the semi-bricked console. Is it a valid option? No problem with encryption and/or file access right when doing this way?

Thanks in advance for your help

The reason why this is written like this is because of an older Version of this Guide where this was the only way known to me to fix it. I added the steps for reinstalling wads using a wad manager later.

If you're able to boot into a wad manager you should be able to do that and unbrick your vwii.

Lmao the Replace SLCCMPT section reminds me when I was unbricking my vWii back in 2017, but instead of WUPClient/WUPServer, I used FTPiiU Everywhere and a FTP client

Since it seems safe to do use the "System Menu v4.3 (v610) (vWii)" Wad file, I will try this first (I still have access to HBC and a wad manager in the maintenance mode). Thanks for this clarification (and huge thanks for your guide, very useful for people like me).
I'm moderately optimistic though, because using FTPiiU Everywhere, I downloaded on my PC the files you recommend to replace (00000022.app and 00000023.app) and I compared their SHA256 fingerprint with those of the same files extracted the same way from an unbricked Wii. And their SHA256 were the same. The problem may be elsewhere.

Talking about that, do you know if there are other IOS involved in the system menu than IOS80? I tried to find the information on the late part of the boot sequence (after the boot0/boot1/boot 2), but I didn't find something relevant.
