TX Presents SX OS v2.9 BETA - With Full v9.0 Firmware Support!

NEW UPDATE FIXES UPGRADE ISSUES!

PLEASE USE V2.9.1b INSTEAD OF 2.9

YOU CAN NOW USE CHOIDUJOURNX 1.0.2 WITH 2.9.1b

**********************************************

Good day, fans and believers! We hope you are all having a good weekend.

SXOS29.png

Team-Xecuter has done it again, they have updated their world-famous SX OS to now support the latest v9.0 Switch firmware from Nintendo.
Today, we bring you a much needed update of SX OS. Full compatibility with the latest Switch firmware 9.0! Sorry that we kept you waiting, we wanted to make sure all our unique features still properly work.

Additionally, we also introduced support for the "Horizon split format". This means that people who use FAT32 can have folders named 'game.xci' with split parts contained therein (named 00, 01, 02, etc.). Make sure the folder has the 'archive' bit set.

We know you are waiting for some other big features in SX OS, they are coming.. We wanted to get this compatibility update out first though.

So what are you waiting for? SX OS 2.9 beta is available for download on our website now! (and also through the builtin online updater part of SX OS.)

For anyone that has a bricked EMUNAND--

1. Update SYSNAND to 9.0 through Nintendo's regular method (if you have the option to/want to)
2. In SX bootloader, dump just the BOOT0 and BOOT1 (these will match your system and be good for 9.0 firmware)
3. Copy from SX\Backup to SX\emunand (rename the old boot0 and boot1 first!)
** Your EMUNAND should boot again but be kinda janky (no games work/xci mount) Homebrew is fine, back up your saves **
4. Boot into 9.0 with SXOS 2.9b and install Choi 1.01 and DOWNGRADE to 8.1 firmware
5. Reboot, system should be good now back on 8.1. Stay here or continue at your own risk!

6. Put SXOS 2.8b back on your SD card along with Choi 1.02 and boot it.
7. Update to 9.0 firmware while in EMUNAND and power down after the update
8. Put SXOS 2.9b on your SD and boot... pray!
Hi mate will this work on a hidden emunand? I cannot find the sx/emunand folder on my DS card. Is that because it is hidden?
Thanks

I haven't looked into hidden partition emunand much, but if there is a way to mount it, you should be able to use a 9.0 BOOT0/1 and swap them in to get you booting again.

Hhmmm... I just cannot find anything to help find the hidden partition. I am just going to delete the old emunand and start with a clean one.

I hope this works. I have now updated my sysnand to 9.0

Just backing up my microsd so if I can save some of my checkpoint saves that will be good. Am going to have to download 400gb of my games all over again onto the new emunand.

Damn this sucks.

If you keep your emutendo folder you may be ok as far as re-installing goes, but I'm not 100% sure. You can also see if there is a way to use hacdisktool with your hidden emunand and mount it to extract your saves.

You should have another sdcard 16 gb is enough just copy sxos license and boot file ( plus I think a folder Switch/sx as well) to that new sdcard and plug in. I suggest to format as exfat.

Or you can set up that sdcard for atmosphere.

However, hidden emunand partition cannot found and access by any system. And folder emunintendo are where your game installed so if you removed game data will lost and you needed to recover again.

Other solution turn off emunand when you see sxos boot screen hold volume up and you can turn off emunand from there

Ok champ. Let me look into that. I am just backing up my sd card in case we can salvage anything in the future. I’ll keep u posted.

Thanks for reaching out again.

Hi mate

yes I have another sd card but how will that save my old emunand? Don’t I require that bricked emunand to recognise my games etc that are already on that other bigger sd card? Thanks bro

Can staff add some kind of warning to the post, because at this point nothing is being done to warn users and bricks are continuing to happen. Like I'm not even being anti-SXOS, I just want to warn users of what not to do to prevent further bricks from happening.

There should be a warning to "DO NOT DO THIS UPGRADE" unless you are a tester, its a shame that no one has bothered to change the title or moderate this.

Just let you know be careful with multi post. Mod here very strict ^^

So you update emunand. Have you download 2.9 extract and overwrite file(s) in your root sdcard? You should tried again somehow updater not working properly. Have you remove cartridge??

In this situation IF your emunand not support by boot.dat 2.9 then you may wait until TX release new version which will fix this issue.

TX has made it quite obvious that it has blindly copied code from Atmosphere without testing it out and making changes where necessary. Causing the bricks when updating to 9.0.0 via ChoiDujourNX.

IF TX have blindly copied code from Atmosphere, then ChoiDuJourNX should be working with no issues, since the 1.02 revision of CJNX apparently has atmos only compatible code calls in it (from discussions on Discord - currently trying to catch up on facts, rather than opinions). Since CJNX is also closed source it's not something *I* can easily look into.

TX also has not mentioned that as soon as you mount your GC then it'll update it and burn a fuse. Essentially rendering it useless if you decide to downgrade below 9.0.0.

Still checking, but that semi has to be expected - it was like an earlier GC firmware update - was it 3.x or 4.x where there was a forced GC update in the firmware update. It seems that with 9.0.0 the forced GC update process also burns a fuse - I'll need to verify in the atmos sections, though possibly that might be related to the atmos specific code in ChoiDuJourNX so it skips burning a fuse? Further research will hopefully uncover the truth rather than opinion.

The update has also broken custom xcis and converted xcis.

The GC code has changed and still boots single title XCIs with no issues - it is only the bundled XCIs with DLC and updates integrated which are having issues and guess what? That's probably because of the updated GC firmware from Nintendo. I'm guessing Nintendo now check to see if there is only a single titleID / licence / ticket in the XCI for it to run, if there are more (which should never occur in real cartridges) then it's not passing the security test.

But since XCI is an SX OS specifc thing and loads of atmos users have said they never see the point, I guess it won't effect anyone other than SX OS users, right?

Bonus Round: TX also took a feature from HOS (Horizon/Switch OS) and passed it off as their own work (support for splitted .xci files).

And features from SX OS have been integrated into Atmos (cheat engine) - who really cares (only the SX OS haters, that's who!)? I'm certain earlier version of Tinfoil and other third party installers had support for split NSP and XCI files many, many months previously.

It's almost like complaining if Windows added something like EXT4 support and all the *NIX and Apple users were boo hooing and throwing tantrums.

So to summarise this whole debacle:
I know I said I'd keep neutral but I couldn't help but document this shitshow. I'll be sure to prepare some popcorn for the next major release.

That's ok, no one ever for an instant thought you would keep quiet about a new release from TX. We could sense the pressure building up from the other side of the planet.

it seems sx os 2..9 doesn't let you install incognito mode anymore, just like what happens to atmosphere. I wonder if that's something that is being looked into...

either way, suppose I had installed incognito before (using sxos 2.8, that is), will updating emunand to 9.0 and running sxos 2.9 "revert"/"nulify" the incognito mode previously set up? that's what I did, and the fact the serial number still doesn't show up makes me believe incognito is still up and running, but I'd rather be sure about it.

what do you guys think?

All the bricks that happened today are unacceptable and nobody should defend this shitshow. That said i think this is the beginning of the end for SX

That is an awesomely quotable comment - I'll copy it and keep it for when the next Nintendo Firmware release happens and the forums are flooded with early adoptor Atmosphere users asking for help. Thank you!

Pointing out facts is apparently trolling now.

I'm not really anti-SX OS. Just wanted to point out there is a difference between those two events. For the atmosphere problems, they aren't bricks, and are usually resolved with updating accompanying homebrew stuff other than what comes default with atmosphere, or literally by deleting certain folder for things like themes or sysmodules. Always an easy fix. Whereas the current SX OS situation involves actual console bricking. Which is still possible to repair, but much more of a pain and a much bigger situation than the atmosphere problems. It's also the fact that the bricks are happening due to direct advice given to the users.
So while both are bad, you can't say an actual brick is the same level of bad as not being able to use gamecards because of a simple hekate setting, or some other crash that gives error codes that can be very easy to fix in a majority of cases.

I guess we'll just have to disagree on that. And I believe I understand why we see this differently.

I've cut out all your reply as it was literally what I'd already said - if there were issues with homebrew not working - contact SX OS. If enough homebrew devs have issues and contact them then it's an issue with the CFW and hopefully TX would then address it. However if it's something wrong at the homebrew dev's end then they need to work out what the issue is as even different compilers can cause different problems when outputting code.

It's no use one person doing something like their program doesn't work under DirectX - DirectX must be at fault - without doing some research and seeing if other devs are also experiencing the same / other issues. We all know that passign parameters to library calls can and will fail when the library gets updated and parameter options get changed for whatever reason.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Can someone give a definitive guide on what to do for SX Users?

Absolutely!

Don't update your emuNAND to 9.0.0 - there is absolutely no reason to do so at this point. Wait until there has been a followup post from TX regarding the firmware update issues with ChoiDuJourNX and fuses being burned.

If you update your sysNAND to 9.0.0 because you have original games on your sysNAND and you play online, then go ahead and update as your fuses would be burned anyways for you to legally get online.

Repeat afer me - you will NOT miss out on anything. You will NOT miss out on anything..

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Dual boot online I guess

in which case.. the 9.0.0 update to sysNAND will burn the fuse anyway. For emuNAND there is no direct need to update to 9.0.0 at this moment.

If it has been proven to work on other custom firmwares, then it's definitive that it's something within SX OS causing the problems, likely all the custom things they add on top causing incompatibility. If we can prove it works on multiple other cfw, then by process of elimination, it's not the homebrew that's the problem, but rather whatever is running the homebrew. Which I stated before, you need to treat the illness, not just the symptoms. It shouldn't be up to the homebrew devs to add custom code to fix SX OS support when SX OS is basically proven to be less compatible with homebrew for reasons no one knows because of the closed-source nature of the cfw.

WHY DID I DO THIS WITHOUT READING HERE FIRST! YAY! AM SO FARKED!

so many people do this across so many devices.. I work on a helpdesk and there are the types of calls I have all day. Them: "I saw a popup so I clicked yes". Me: "What did the popup say?" Them: "I don't know.. now I have an encrypted hard drive, what do I do?" Me: "Do you have a backup?" Them: "A what?" Me: "Pay the amount of money the screen shows you to the email address it lists as well, there is nothing I can do to assist you"

The amount of people that do things without reading blows me away whenever I take calls.
