So, I tried out the new update for a few games... (of which I'm still using .gdi files because I don't have a Patreon with money coming in like crazy that'd allow yours truly to stay home and do stuff and report my findings whenever. Not that I'm asking for money, of course, because I'm not outputting anything online, let alone starting a career on something like YT that's going down the shitter more and more as each month passes by!)

MVC2 (DC): Still runs slow. Possibly runs slower than it did before. IDK if using similar in-house engines was a thing in the late 90's/early 2000's at this point for something like fighting games, but considering the next game's performance, this one running slow, hell, 2D running slow in general is just so weird to me considering it's usually the 3D that's more demanding when it comes to emulators!
CVS2 (DC): Runs practically perfect, with no fucked up sprites and just some frame drops here and there. Here's what confuses me: I know MVC2 could be considered more demanding because more sprites have to be loaded into RAM, more stuff has to be called upon with how the tag team mechanics work and everything. But outside of the backgrounds being more advanced than what's in CVS2 here, I don't really see how I could be getting less than 30fps on the game!
Soul Calibur: Runs about how it did before, but the graphics are glitchier (?) than the previous build? Either that, or I didn't change some settings back.

I'm gonna transfer some more games over to my microSD card so I can have more to reference going forward. If I feel like going out of my way to change the games exclusive to NAOMI/Atomiswave and that don't have an equivalent native port on Switch to .chds, I'll include those as well when I get around to it. Will .chds be associated with Flycast, though? It seems like .chds are becoming the new hot trend for compressing games larger than SNES/N64 games down to more manageable sizes.

CHDs are already associated with Flycast, you don't need to do anything special.

CHD is for compressing disc images without needing to decompress them first like you do with .zip etc., and also compresses the audio as FLAC. It is also supported by PCSX, Genesis Plus GX and the PC Engine CD cores.

Just so people know, I have only had luck getting the Japanese version of Bangai-O working. The US version does not seem to work, so use the Japanese version.

Here are a couple more tests I did:

Evolution (GDI - US) - Game runs smooth as butter. Some audio chopping whenever you enter a battle but I think it also happened on DC sometimes (due to disc reading).

San Francisco Rush 2049 (GDI - US) - This one I couldn't get to work. It boots up until you got to the main menu, but then you can't select anything. Haven't tried messing with any settings yet, but I checked the controller inputs and everything seems to be OK, so I have no idea why doesn't it work.
Regarding San Francisco Rush 2049, I have only ever been able to get the PAL version working. This applies to the upstream core too.

Beta build 2:
Atomiswave KOF Neo Wave slowdown with about 16fps to 20 FPS at stock clock. With minor graphics glitches.

Make sure you set up the VMUs properly. The best thing to do is go to core options and have it create a VMU for each game.
Thanks. I did that after reading your suggestion but apparently had no success. I'll be sticking with save states for now.

Not a good idea.

Make sure you're actually closing the content first. If it crashes, it's less likely to stick.
Are there actual crashes?
Only ones I encountered were wrong video settings.
The report is useless because we handle them so would need a nxlink if anyone encounteres them :/

The crashes are consistently repeatable between almost every game for me so I can send logs later when I get nxlink working.

I know @m4xw said something about "desktop save states" not working in a linked tweet a few pages ago. Is that in reference to actual save states or the VMU files from a desktop build of RA not working with this core?

I am having an issue running Crazy Taxi. I tried a few different copies (mostly cdi but I also tried gdi), I have the bios in the right folder, but I keep getting a black screen. Anyone else having this issue?

Works perfectly for me.
But I am having a Issue with Hydro Thunder. L keeps sticking at times for some reason.

Save files and save states are completely different things, sooooo. . .
VMUs are fine.

It crashes any time after closing content, I can say that much. Whether loading content immediately after, or after closing the overridden game and opening up RA in a fresh instance.

Crashes for me after closing content too sometimes on the latest nightlies in Flycast.. Other times after closing content i cant load up the next DC game right away, RA just hangs on black screen so i have to close the app (title) itself through home button.

I ended up figuring it out. I had a messed up setting somewhere in my config file. I didn't do much with the config from what I remember so I scrapped the file and now I can load games no problem.

You can work around the crashing issue by using Disc Control to eject the tray and insert a new disc, but this isn't helpful if you use a separate VMU for each game because this would not change the VMU.
