Rockstar releases its very own games launcher for Windows

In case you were looking for yet another games launcher for your PC, more specifically, for Rockstar games, you've been served! Launched today, the aptly-named Rockstart Games Launcher is your new gateway for anything Rockstar on Windows.

This brand-new launcher now allows you to access your PC Rockstar games across both digital and disc-based titles including ones purchased from various other digital stores. Additional features include the addition of cloud save functionality to all supported titles, the ability to keep your Rockstar Games PC library updated automatically, and ways to follow all the latest Rockstar Games news from directly inside the Launcher.

As an incentive for you to download this launcher, Rockestar is giving away for an unspecified "limited time" a free copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on PC within the Rockstar Games Launcher, to permanently add it to your Social Club account’s library.

Hey...I played GTA V on rockstar's platform last year (from a key I bought on the humble store). Nobody cared then. Recently they added a virtual casino, which you'd think would ruffle the crusaders against the gambling nature of lootboxes, but rockstar was apparently too cool to be attacked, so it went (relatively) quiet.

...and now they added a "buy this game here" part to that platform and gbatemp suddenly goes nuts. Okay, fine: you won't touch on buying games outside your beloved steam client. I get it. Okay, fine: you don't give a damn about cloud saves and automatic updates on games that didn't have it until now. Okay, fine: you don't want your free copy of an actually great game(1). I get it. But can we please allow others to have a different opinion here?

The irony is: the more different clients are being made, the more effort is going to be put into a launcher that encompasses all (like GoG's upcoming client). So I think this "problem" will be solved once it starts losing those air brackets around the word.

*goes off to play San Andreas just to piss off some gbatempers* :tpi:

(1): yes, I've read the remark that it's not really the best version ever. San Andreas is still one of the best games ever made nonetheless

EDIT: @simbin : erm...where exactly did you got the idea that san andreas is the android version, really? It would seem like an odd move from rockstar, but right now I'm downloading 4.59 GB in game files. The android version is only 2.6 GB (and that is fully extracted), so...I'm thinking someone's spreading lies about which version's being handed out.

PC gaming is turning into cable TV. Same with online video streaming, actually.

This much fragmentation is not a good idea.
Yep, everybody wants to make their own PC game launcher/store, and every production company/channel is trying to make their own Netflix style streaming service. The only one I see working out is Disney Plus or w/e. Hulu and Crunchyroll have been around for a while so they're fine, Netflix is the big daddy, and at least Amazon Prime Video is included with a prime membership. But fuck Disney, Fox, HBO, and everyone else who is pulling their stuff from other services to try to make their own crappy platform. And fuck all of these launchers as well. It's bad enough I have to use Steam (I'd rather just have a functional exe that requires a serial key), let alone the Bethesda launcher, Origin, Epic Games Launcher, and the other ones. The only good thing about this is it means that there might be hope for a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port as an exclusive for their launcher, but I doubt it, especially since they're making it so you can access your purchases from other online stores like Steam through their launcher.
