Hello everyone,

I’m a general novice here, I’ve put Homebrew/CFW in my 2DS and now my Wii U. I’m going to start with the vWii soon but I have a question. I’m nervous about bricking, so I want to know is it much safer to use NAND emulation with USB loader GX to install a few WiiWare games and DLC? If there is a problem with the files will I be able to delete or fix them this way instead of bricking my vWii? Thanks.

On a regular Wii, the precautions are simple - install Priiloader so that you can direct boot the HBC or a wad manager and uninstall a bannerbricking title, and check the titleID to ensure a malicious or incompetent wad won't overwrite an important title;

on a Vwii you can't do the former, however you can access the Vwii nand (slccmpt) from WiiU mode FTP as well as use a wad manager in enhanced vwii mode without going through the Wii Menu, so there aren't significant differences - pretty much every "day to day" issue is still fixable in software

(Wii mode) emunand of course avoids the issue in the first place - but comes with an accuracy and compatibility penalty!

Cool, thanks. So basically that link you sent I can make the WAD manager available from the Wii U side to fix issues?

Yep, with caveats comparable to but different than Priiloader's (the required functional titles, instead of Wii Menu and its IOS80, are BC-WFS [titleid 00000001-00000201 or was it 202?] and probably an IOS I don't remember)

Simply download Some Yawmm Mod, convert it to WiiU format with that program (you'll have to supply an icon and banner in tga format you can grab from a few places, any of the appropriate size with TrueVision footer will do), install and run it - that homebrew along with AHBPROT do the rest!

Thanks AHBPROT is beyond my current knowledge what would I use that for? And do I still need to repack any WAD files to be compatible with vWii?

It's not something you use, at least for the same definition of "use" that is running a program or selecting a feature - it's a permission* that Wii titles may or may not have, allowing them to freely read and write memory - this includes the ability to edit the currently running IOS and (as seen in Some Yawmm Mod and direct competitors) obtain the ability to install or uninstall any title regardless of whether you have a CIOS or other pre-installed way to obtain elevated permissions (and some more)

* strictly speaking it's the name of the variable which holds that permission, but common usage of the word is as above
