The first three Dragon Quest games will be released on the Switch in the west

Previously announced in Japan was the re-release of the first three Dragon Quest games, for the Nintendo Switch. Japan will not be the only ones that can enjoy these oldschool games, however, as Square Enix has revealed that they will be releasing the titles digitally, in the west. On September 27th, Dragon Quest I, II, and III will launch on the Nintendo eShop, for $4.99, $6.49, and $12.49, respectively. Rather than receive a physical version like Japan will, this collection of classic titles will be a digital-only release, though it does mark the first time that Europe has had these games officially release on console.

I know I meant the English version, will it release on PS4 too?
While there's absolutely zero talk about this, I wouldn't rule out the possibility entirely.

When those trilogy games released on PS4 and 3DS, back in 2017, DQ had no traction in the west whatsoever. It's only after 2018 and the release of DQ11 that things started to change. DQ11S is being published by Nintendo, while DQ 1, 2 and 3 are being published by Square-Enix themselves. The fact it was announced via the official DQ account is proof on itself - the very official Dragon Quest twitter account doesn't seem like it's even allowed to talk about the Dragon Quest games and content not being published by Square-Enix. Both the release of Hero on Smash Bros and the upcoming DQ11S are only referred when being retweeted by the official Nintendo account. All the promo material in the account refers to the already released DQ Builders 2. It's so very weird; if it wasn't for the RTs, it's like Hero in Smash and DQ11S don't even exist at all.

That being said, those ports are being released in a timely manner to coincide with the release of DQ11S. The whole content of DQ1, 2 and 3 belongs to Square-Enix. Other than interest and market, there's nothing that said they can't translate and release the PS4 versions of those games at a later date. Whether that will happen or not is up to them, though.

IfI sure appreciate it. Port those to PC, too! Port everything!

I hope we get dragon quest monsters on switch in English too.

these are definitely a buy for me. what I find odd though is that they're releasing on the same day as dq 11. maybe they're hoping that the people who buy dq 11 (or play the demo) will make them fans of the series, then be more inclined to buy the first three games. I'm glad they're not using the nes graphics, so it would be kinda like a new experience. I remember my dq 3 game getting erased on the cartridge many years ago, but I did manage to beat it before that. I never beat part 2. I think I made it to the final dungeon, then my game was lost. that little song it plays when a save is lost is grilled into my subconscious. :P

I already have explained why the first three games are coming out same day as 11 back on page 1 but I will post why again.

(XI is part of the Eldrick Saga as is 1/2/3.

So it makes sense to realese one two and three at this time so as you can play the Eldrick Saga from start to finish.

4/5/6 are part of the Zenithian Saga and have no connection story wise to the Eldrick Saga games.

7/8/9/10 are all individual stories with no connection to any other game in the series.)

I've never pld the game but you think you'd get any satisfaction from finishing tht kind of game in 23 minutes:lol:
My 8 year old self would have enjoyed it since I spent so much time playing it back then. Actually, the time was 27:19, I had to look up the video.
I was more into beating games back then rather than grinding to level up or collect everything in games. I was in shear shock when I saw the video of somebody beating it in 27 minutes just thinking of the hours spent on that one game. Of course, I'm sure they spent more than 27 minutes figuring out the patterns and listening for audio cues.

If anybody is interested, look up "Dragon Warrior by NEScardinality in 27:19" on youtube. That was the video I watched. Not sure if his method would work on these remakes, though.

Oh my gosh!
I am so fucking excited!
This is amazing!

I hope this is just a start and they do DQ6 as well.

DQ6 for the SNES had gotten a fantranslation, but it wasnt entirely finished and it crashed from time to time.
Having them re-release those games is a dream come true!

The modern localisation of 3 ranks among my favourites in the series. It's just so much better than anything the game had received until then. They didn't go all-out on the accents but kept it in a way which ended up being charming and makes sense when you consider the world map. It's a top-notch translation.

Made a mistake there. Had gotten 3 and 6 mixed up...
Havent played 3, yet.
Only I + II on Snes and 6 on SNES and DS.
I love that they are doing this tho.
I really hope hope this is just the beginning.
Dragon Quest is so fantastic and most people here never even heard of this series.

HELL YES. I want a machine that can play everything back to the beginning of gamez. That I can carry with me. That isn't a laptop.

GPDWin2 says hi :)
3DS size.
6 hours autonomy on emulators (Metroid Prime, WW) or 2/3 hours on AAA PC games (Arkham Origins).

Runs any emulator up to Wii (Mario galaxy runs fine).
Runs any PC games up to MGS5.

Wish they were offering a physical box version of the games as a bundle, but I'm still happy they're coming here.

I remember liking the DQ3 on GBC, although I didn't finish it, I think it was great. I wonder if I would still be able to enjoy this old school rpg...

yeah but that thing is hella expensive, it'd be cheaper to buy a Nintendo 3DS and put CFW on it with an emulator to play the originals.

The 3ds and ps4 versions both came out on Aug 10th 2017 in Japan.

So is there any chance for translations at all? Even if they are fan translations? or is that just a dream since the original games are so much better looking?
