Steam is getting a library redesign beta later this month

Your Steam Library is going to look a little prettier, soon, as Valve will be redesigning Steam's library design to make it a little more visually appealing to users. A new opt-in update will be pushed out to willing Steam gamers on September 17th, which will give a look at what the new style will be like, before it officially goes out to all users later down the line. Valve states that this update is meant to help players keep better track of what your friends are playing, better locate your games, and to let you easily find out what's going on in a respective game's community on Steam. Game pages now offer more information at a glance, while your entire library will have larger icons, to easily allow you to find your games, without having to search through your library. If you're interested in joining in on the beta update when it launches, you can do so by following this guide.

It'd be nice to have the community stuff for a game be more visible, instead of the "news" articles that pretty much never have anything interesting. What I really like about the current design is the amount of information that fits on screen at once. The simple list on the left is simplistic, but very utilitarian and I love it. Big ol' cards like in Big Picture mode are pretty for 5 minutes, but having to scroll so much to find what you want is always annoying.

Guys, this is the competition from Epic in action! Valve is actually changing Steam! /s

Seriously though, I can only echo the sentiment of "I hope I can still have a list and not a bunch of icons." I only have like 20-30 games in my library (plus the several hundred from friends' shared libraries), and I don't know the cover art for all of them. This could actually make finding the game I want to play harder. Especially the ones I only boot up every few months.

You can add games you'd rather others didn't see to the 'hidden' category and then just access them from the 'hidden' section of games, rather than your main section.
But then they see my 'hidden' section off to the side and assume that it's all porn.

I can see my games and is functional.

I mean, I'm not opposed to change things up, but please don't go full retard making the design get on the way of the functionality.

you'll still have your games in a nice list on the left side. the right side is going to just change the way things look, but still have the same information.

They're also adding more sorting functionality. you'll be able to sort your library based on tags, which is great. they also said they're making it easier to see what your friends are playing, and what games have had new features added since you last played. I got to play around with it a few months ago, and other then some bugs(which im sure they've fixed by now) it was really nice

Personally not a fan of the giant cover art icons which seem to be the direction that everyone is going lately. It certainly looks nice at a glance, but when you've got hundreds of games in your library it can become a bit unruly and slow to navigate. Still, I expect Steam will continue to provide multiple sorting options, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
if we re lucky we can switch layouts... or if everything goes to shit there s still a theme option so we can add custom themes

Hope it won't be a shitty one. The current one is perfect to me.
No covers is great. I like the clean look of it.
