How many times did I ask him to check his sd card and make sure he uses a genuine high quality make!

I quote from one of my first comments to him "Make sure you use a high quality genuine micro sd card don’t go cheap you will only have issues in the long term."

You can blame OP, I guess, but then it would have been better to blame them at the beginning for making this thread. He obviously didn't understand what hw2test was or why it was needed. It took me too long.

Anyway, I'm relieved because I found the problem.

make a nand backup, install it as emuMMC, and then fully update the real NAND. Keep emuMMC offline forever for CFW, homebrew and piracy. Keep NAND clean of any homebrew or piracy or CFW.

In this case that's awful advice. His OFW is on 4.1.0, he can use Deja Vu and will never need to use a jig or dongle.

WOW it was very easy to use Atmosphere to setup emuMMC with the new SD card and it's very fast too it takes 11m only.
thanks a lot for all your support
should i restore the NAND backup? also what is the next step to install NSPs and start play offline?

The idea is to have two emuNANDs, one kept as close to stock as possible for online and the other for messing with homebrew and NSPs.

If your sd card starts failing, RIP. If you use emunand/emmumc to go online, you have to make sure nothing happens to that card. Even a backup won't save you, because the logs will always be different, leading to bans. The cost of an extra 32GB is annoying but not as big as a concern in comparison.

You make a good point regarding SD card failure. If only there was a way of updating an unpatched Switch without burning fuses, so that something like a dual nand hardware mod would be able to work...

So I've updated to latest fw without burning fuses. Now I'm booting back into stock sysnand from hekate but I get other boot logos. Is this safe?

I need to link my account and then create emummc.

Hi Reecey/tabzer,

I just purchased an unpatched 4.1.0 switch. I read all the info on the past 6 pages, but I am a little confused. I have experience hacking the PS3 and the Wii, but it has been a few years. I want to know what I need to do to have a setup where I can backup games. I do not really need anything else at this time. I did not know using the Switch with online is an option with the hack? I don't want to risk getting banned, so it would be nice to have online as an option, but not if it could pose an issue. I have a 400gb SanDisk SD card, that I have formatted FAT32 with second partition with 32.5GB for the emuMMC partition. I do want to be able to have my SD card setup as exFAT if possible. I see different things being said on the last 6 pages and not really sure what I should be doing for the next step. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Depends on what you mean by "backup games." If you want to backup your own game cartridges and play them, SX OS is probably the easiest way to do it, but it'll cost ya. SX OS is currently the only CFW that can play XCI cartridge dumps.

But now it's gotten pretty easy to just convert the XCI to an NSP, which are games you install and then they show up on your home menu, like any other game you may have downloaded from the eShop. Most people here are simply using NSPs with Atmosphere, which is free, but buying a few tools can make things easier.

I highly recommend reading through this guide: https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/

Follow the guide. Many people here are able to flip-flop between a "Dirty EmuMMC" and a "Clean SysNAND" to avoid bans. The idea is that you keep all of your hacking/homebrew/piracy-related stuff on your EmuMMC, and keep it offline (or use "Incognito" or 90DNS) so that Nintendo can't ban it. Then when you want to play online, reboot into your Clean SysNAND and play your legit games. There's no safe way of playing pirated games on Nintendo's Official Servers, and there likely never will be. Alternatively, you can play games online with EmuMMC that support LAN play using switch-lan-play, or local wireless play using the ldn_mitm module for Atmosphere.

I do want to be able to have my SD card setup as exFAT if possible.

When it comes to the Nintendo Switch, avoid exFAT like the plague. Use FAT32, exFAT is very prone to corruption on the Switch especially if you're using homebrew like Retroarch that writes to it constantly. Even if you're not, some people had their exFAT cards corrupted just by playing Pokemon Sword and Shield, on Stock systems with no modification at all. There are practically no downsides to using FAT32. If you want to install a game that's over 4GB, you can either split the file or you can install it over the network or USB. In many ways installing NSPs to your console via USB is faster than having to turn off your Switch, throw the card in your computer, copy the game over, throw it back in your Switch, install the game... Just trust me on this one, stay away from exFAT and save yourself a lot of heartache. Don't get me wrong, I love exFAT on everything else, but the Switch has a crappy exFAT driver that doesn't work properly, don't risk it.

Oh yeah, also a short summary. Switch hacking primarily involves two tools, an "RCM Jig" and a "Payload Sender."

For the RCM Jig, you can use all sorts of different things. You're trying to short pin 10 on the right-hand joycon rail with any ground. Fortunately the whole joycon rail is grounded, so this isn't too difficult. Some people using a bent paperclip, some people will shove a small screwdriver in there, I've had plenty of success using a small piece of wire, I've even used a bent staple for it. You can also use tin foil over a joycon, but that's a bit dangerous because you could short the wrong pins and really cause damage. You can open your joycon and bend one of the pins to use it as a jig as well. All sorts of different methods.

But shoving random items in your Switch's joycon rail is a really easy way to damage the pins. So I'd recommend either installing AutoRCM, so you don't need to use jigs anymore, or simply buying a RCM Jig online. They're really cheap, typically less than $10 and in many cases less than $5.

As for the other part, the "Payload Sender" sends payloads to the Switch over the USB-C port after it's been put in RCM mode. If you have a good USB-C cable, you can use your computer to send the payload. Or you can use an android phone so you can send payloads to your Switch on the go.

Or, you can buy a "Payload Dongle," which is basically a tiny computer (usually based off of the Trinket M0 or some other arduino-based device) and a small battery / capacitor, that's sole purpose is to send payloads to your Switch. This is one of the easiest ways to launch CFW on your Switch when on the go.

And finally, the absolute easiest "payload sender" to use is to solder a Trinket M0 or similar "modchip" into your Switch. That is the ultimate setup, afterwards you can switch between your stock sysnand and dirty emummc without using any RCM Jigs or other devices, the internal modchip can take care of everything for you. But not everybody is comfortable with soldering their Nintendo Switch, so it's not for everyone.

I just updated my switch. I am using atmosphere with Hekate payload. I created 2 partitions with Emummc on its own partition. What do I need any order to install games onto my Switch? What are my options? Remember I am using 4.1.0 firmware and I am unpatched. Thanks.

You'll want to update your EmuMMC to the latest firmware. You should be booting Atmosphere using fusee-primary instead of Hekate. We can't tell you where or how to acquire games here, Google is your friend. However, there are plenty of tools for installing these games. Two common ones are Tinfoil and Goldleaf.
