Disney Classic Games Collection sees Aladdin and The Lion King get remastered versions

Zd41nNi.png

Back in the 1990's, Disney had a solid track record of making video game adaptations of some of its most famous movies of the decade. Ones that Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo fans are sure to remember are The Lion King and Disney's Aladdin, released in 1993 and 1994 respectively. Now, a whole new world generation can get to experience those beloved titles, as both will be fully remastered in 1080p in the upcoming Disney Classic Games Collection. This dual pack will see both the SNES and Genesis versions of each game, including their original soundtracks, with the ability to fast-forward and rewind--which may help with The Lion King's notorious difficulty. The Disney Classic Games Collection will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow, and will release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this fall.

my first console was a mega drive bundled with lion king, I got it when I was 6 years old. I beaten that game back then, it had an easy mode. borrowed alladin but I think I only got past that lava cave flying stage. if it's a remaster like ducktales, I will propably play it

It will probably be like ducktales and wouldn't also be surprised if they add checkpoints/savestates to make it easier for all of us.
I have doubts about that, ducktales was a full blown remake with full voice acting, completely redone levels, story ect..
This is apparently is a few months from release. i'm guessing its just with the bg's cleaned up and just an upgraded port.

Why didn't they just port the afternoon collection to switch?

ALLADDIN!!! YESSS! I loved that game growing up!! Deffo rebuying. Now is it the SNES or the Genesis version? Hopeful for the SNES version. New graphics, or just "adapted for 1080p"? or whatever? Was an incredibly short game though.
why the snes version ? It was the lesser experience and took out the blades because '' why won't somebody think of the kids '' that the Genesis had and replaced it with throwing apples

Love all the people saying The Lion King was «easy», while it’s known for being one of the most punishing platformers of that era, and even had the developers apologize for it’s difficulty in later years.
While Aladdin was pretty hard as well it couldnt be compared to the hell that was Lion King. (Great looking and sounding game though!)

So get outta here with your «Git good scrub». Even IF you actually beat it when you were 8-9, no way it didnt require a lot of trial and error.

Agreed, i finished it also myself as a little kid but you couldn't do it without playing the game over and over so many times till it just became muscle memory but in no way could you finish it without muscle memory. It is one of the harder games, especially with secrets, sometimes you couldn't look down or anything and had to take a leap of faith to get it and hope you land on something.

Aha...but the big question remains:

...will Will Smith be in the remastered version? :tpi:

(on a more serious note: Aladdin on SNES was a very good game. I played through it again on emulators not that long ago, and man...it really was more difficult than I remember (or I'm getting old, of course). It baffles me how I somehow finished that game before quicksaves/rewind functions were available  ).

Okay that is pretty cool, unlike the garbage versions GOG got of these games.
Huh? They were on gog.com?

*searches*

Okay...it seems that you're certainly correct on these. In fact, gog.com removed them from their site on publisher's request (link & link)

Careful. You'll get a lot of shit from those self conscious weirdos who are just looking to boost their own egos.

I put a lot more time into the SNES version. So it might be bias on my part. But i loved the apple throwing. Overall, from what i played, and again this might be because i played more of the SNES version, but, i enjoyed that one more, even though i remember the overall experience being almost identical.

The original developers have gone on the record as apologizing for making The Lion King needlessly difficult, mostly because they needed to do something to combat losses from Blockbuster rentals. That is, the only way to stop someone from renting your game, playing it completely, and then never buying it is to have some part near the beginning require a certain degree of mastery.

Couldn't speak for the Lion King tbh. But I didn't have problems beating Aladdin back then.
Instead of watching the video I tried out TLK myself and the masochist I am I played it on "difficult". Relying on extra lives sure makes it not trivial to beat at all. I got to the end of Level 3 in an hour with a good amount of game over screens (when I figured out the rhino section I could leach off of extra lives, which got rid of the game over problem). Didn't test easy mode yet, but if it gives you more lives and a few continues, I wouldn't call it hard anymore.
I watched the video you mentioned later on and I was surprised that people were having issues with that third monkey puzzle. That one could be done by just guessing.

Oh great, so I get to do the elephant graveyard all over again. Joy. Really though, The Lion King was one of my favourite games for the Genesis. I'm really glad we get a re-release.

Lol, like they charged almost 15€ for super starwars on PSVita in late 2015....
Those ****bags dare anything to make a quick cash.

The Lion King's notorious difficulty

Seriously, is that a joke ?
This game was stupidely easy and handholding, my 10yo self destoyed it blindfolded.
Besides, Westwood did a wonderful work with this game.

I grew up with the SNES Aladdin. It's a bit on the easy side, but I like that platformer, nostalgia for me. Consider me interested.

I couldn't get into the Genesis version last time I tried it. I do like the artstyle, though. It's a Dave Perry game, the guy who programmed Earthworm Jim (which I love). Maybe I should give it a second chance.
