Hi all I am curious if anyone knows of any differences between the PAL and NTSC versions of Mario Kart. The reason I ask is I have seen a copy online of both and the only difference I can tell is one is PAL and the other is NTSC but the size of the PAL version is almost double that of the NTSC version Curious if any missing tracks etc, if they are the same it then brings another question how can the same data have such a huge difference in size.

MarioKart Wii - WBFS File Type

PAL - 5.53GB
NTSC- 2.78GB

Thanks in advance.

Content is the same.
(If not stripped by an modder)

Tho, the Pal (European/Australian) version is probably bigger because of more languages are supported - localisation stuff can take a fair amount of memory.

Hey thanks, now to look at how to strip non English language from any games!

Uhm, I have no idea how the hell is your "PAL WBFS" larger than the capacity of a DVD.
That simply should not be possible, so it sounds like a bad dump or something very weird is going on. My WBFS of Mario Kart Wii which I dumped using CleanRip has a size of 2.58GB, which apparently is *smaller* than the NTSC you have.

It's true that sometimes PAL games have a bigger size than NTSC games because of the multiple languages included, but unless the game has a great load of voice acting (sound files can take huge amounts of space) the difference between a game with a single language and one with multiple is really small. Not to mention sometimes the NTSC version has the same languages (or a handful of them) included. Other times, the NTSC has the languages inside but they're blocked out too.

Since I do some modding of MKWii. I'ma clear some things up.
First off, a PAL WBFS is definitely not 5GB, that's for hella sure.
Second, the files between NTSC(-U) and PAL aren't too different.
Only the language-based files are the noticeable differences.

NTSC-U Language files:
_U (US English)
_M (US Spanish, probably means Mexico)
_Q (Canadian French, probably means Quebec)

PAL Language files:
_E (EU English)
_I (Italian)
_G (German)
_S (EU Spanish)
_F (EU French)

Other language files not in PAL or NTSC-U:
_J (Japanese)
_K (Korean)

Theorized language files:
_N (Dutch, found in some code in the PAL version but no files are for Dutch)
_C (Simplified Chinese, part of the theory that NTSC-K MKWii was also gonna be for the also-theorized iQue Wii)

RMPC01.wbfs - 3.99 GB
RMPCO1.wbf1 - 1.52 GB

Hello.:)

I dumped my Wii Mario Kart PAL with CLEANRIP and as many users here already mentioned, there is something "wrong" with your Image/ISO/wbfs File.
(since there are no replies yesterday I deleted the Dump again.)

The ISO has about 4.4 GB and the WBFS File 2.75 GB.:)

I think it might be the case. ThiuThoit might have levels etc that didn't come with NTSC version.

Just getting into the Wii again after a loooong break.

Just converted the WBFS to a iso and opened it in Wii Scrubber it shows disc sixe of approximately 2.7gb...

Something is definitely not right with this ISO.

Please correct me if im wrong. for me, the different beetween PAL and NTSC games is:
PAL games just show at 25 fps and NTSC 30 fps. you will see the big different if you play mkwii ntsc and pal.
and for me, the colour of pal games is not good as ntsc games.

One thing is the frame rate of a video format and another is the rate of a specific game.
PAL lines, or frames to make it easier to understand, go out at 50 fields per second because PAL is 50Hz.
NTSC lines go out at 60 fields per second, because it works at 60Hz.

This causes a ~16% speed difference (there are more differences between NTSC & PAL, though). As far as games go, a 30 FPS NTSC game would work at 25 FPS in PAL, and a 60 FPS NTSC game would be 50 FPS in PAL, because of the difference in Hz.

Mario Kart Wii is a 60 FPS game, so in PAL 50Hz it would be 50 FPS. But unlike games from consoles from the third, fourth or fifth generation for example, by the times of Wii PAL territories could play PAL games in 60Hz and correct speed thanks to the inclusion of video selection options. The vast majority of games on Wii support Progressive Scan which works at 60Hz or at least PAL 60 which is inferior quality wise, but works at the correct speed, and anyone should try to take advantage of either to avoid 50Hz.

Color depends a lot on the display itself and cables, but PAL does have better colors, but it's not worth the loss of speed.
