For D2B users (which are most of the current sold Nintendo Wii's) the choice is easy: Buy Wiikey. The chip is update-able and has a lot of features. However the choice is somewhat more difficult for a D2C Wii owner like me. The current D2Ckey is doing his job but isn't as complete as the Wiikey, and so comes my question: Is it wise to buy D2Ckey, or are there any new D2C chips coming up (as posted on this forum) which have more features and options which might be interesting to wait for?

The fact that the Wiikey team is also behind the new D2Ckey gives me some confidence about the reliability and quality of the product, but I couldn't find any information about updating D2Ckey on their website. However they claim to be invisible, the Wiikey also claimed that and now they have to patch their software. This means that it will just a matter of time before the D2Ckey will be spotted too... and how will they anticipate on that when you can't update the chip?

The wiikey did not have to patch to become more invisible. mario galaxy checked the dvd sectors not usually around on an original disc, something new entirely. The game did not detect the chip itself. And easily fixed as you noticed.
There's also the infectus chip for D2C, with less wires. Look into that and compare between that and D2C then make a choice.
So far the D2C works just fine, I wouldn't worry too much. And if you do, get the infectus.

at the moment, d2ckey works only with d2c's. the infectus will work with all models, and has way less wires.

That said, there is now the flexpcb for d2ckey which makes installation a whole lot easier.

I haven't looked into pricing of these two, but since it's said that infectus will be quite pricey, maybe d2ckey+flexpcb will still be cheaper.

Thnx for the replies

But you guys don't see any problems by the absence of the updating option for the future of the D2Ckey?

yes, when ssbm has a new protection d2ckey cannot fix it, but wiikey and infectus can.

stay away from the d2ckey, its too hard to install, and also very fragile.

the infectus chip really looks the best, i just hope they can get enough of them in the webshops before christmas.

That inFeCtuS chip looks like the thing I need in my D2C console. I should do some research, I know, but how does one update the inFeCtuS chip?

Now I need to find some experienced solderer or modchip installer, I doubt I'll be able to do it..

/edit: found myself some people who can do the job fine

Now some inFeCtuS hunting

I hate to be the Wii pirate, but Nintendo's stupid PAL thing won't allow me to play my GC games in 480p, so I need to pirate GC games to play their NTSC counterparts that do offer 480p.

i also got this d2c chip and i want to have a modded wii, so is it very wrong to mod it now?
are there any problems in the future?

2. question: is it possible, if the d2ckey is inserted, to just update the wii firmware like i would do if i wouldnt got a chip?

It's not wrong for your to install a D2CKey, but the Infectus chip is better and can be updated. Why go with an inferior chip like D2CKey?

With regards to your second question, it doesn't matter what modchip you have, you can safely update the wii's firmware with or without a modchip at this present time. this may change in the future

as of now, all d2c chips have equal compatibility. What the future brings nobody knows.
So because of that it seems that the best current option for D2C Wii's is the InFeCtuS chip, because it's update-able. Also, Team InFeCtuS will release the Argon chip for Wii, also update-able.

I'll wait to see which from these 2 I'll need. By the time they're released other products may have appeared on the market, so who knows. But I fear that the D2CKey won't be future proof. I'm by no means sure as I'm quite a noob at Wii modding (1 week Wii owner).

Even with all D2C modchip's currently being equal, you'd want to put your money on a chip that has the possibility of upgrading to improve compatibility with games. IF Nintendo released another for of protection on SSBB for example, we don't know if it would work on a D2Ckey, but if it didn't then you're stuck with buying a new chip and replacing it

u gotta remember that alot of this about d2ckey not updatable is just hearsay!!
it has not been confirmed nor denied that we can update. it wouldnt be that hard anyways to upgrade the chip on d2ckey due to the pads on back...so chances are that if u cant update via dvd, at least we should be able to resolder another chip in instead of ripping off all those wires..lol

???

So team Infectus already made a chip for the D2C? But they also release the Argon chip?
What's the difference between those two chips than? I can't find those chips on the Infectus website since they only show xbox and PS chips?

when the firmware code is for download on their website i'll buy the chip.
until then it's just waiting.
