I don't care for the game because the story is too long. That's why I don't like Fire Emblem. I just want to play and strategize. Advance Wars had the most minimal story ever.

You know you can just skip the story segments right? Same for Fire Emblem, though they really are worth reading in FE imo.

Game seems really nice ... a friend told me about it after I told him about Fire Emblem.

Loved advance wars and this seems nice as well but there is one minor thing I don't like, the Animations ... either you turn them off in the options or not ... sometimes I would like to see them but skipping them takes to long so either I turn them all off or take lots of time to skip them.
And I don't understand how star rating is applied in the campaign as I don't see any kind of requirments for each star rank and even on the 3rd or 4th stage I already only got 1 star ... no idea why.

Weird that there is hardly any talk about this here ... Advance Wars had soooo many topics back in the day and everyone loved it.... now this game goes rather unnoticed.

Just want to throw out a suggestion for final fantasy tactics on GBA for you all. I looooove advance wars 1&2, but it pales in comparison to how much time I sank into final fantasy tactics... The ability to equip and expand each individual character on the battlefield made it sooo much fun to find the best possible team (stop gunners ftw). Sank 200+ hrs and purchased 3x because of it getting stolen (never took it out of the GBA slot, so it was always the first to get nabbed)

I realize this is a bit off-topic and a matter of taste but I am definitely NOT in love with the new Fire Emblem that everyone seems to be gushing over.

To explain why; could you imagine the same amount of talking, and exterraneous conversations added to Pokemon? I think most who love that game would not like the change.

Many of us come to Fire EMblem for the Battles,/tactics/Strategy, not the inane chatter that goes on in between in this newest outing of the game. I'm not against change, but Fire Emblem FE# (the Atlus cross over) wasn't sold as a straight FE game either, and for the same reasons I don't care for that game, didn't buy it. Nor did I buy F.E> Warriors, even though that was closer to the original than the others mentioned.

I do wish the best for those who are enjoying the game though, This is why I wish they had offered a pre-testing demo (long before) and saved me $60 USD, for something better.

If you haven't yet checked out, the GB Wars, GB Wars Turbo, it is strikingly bare-bones but it is closer to why I enjoy the game and worth checking out once you get with their simplicity.

'Simplicity is the Hallmark of Genius'...

PS I wish Chuckle FIsh put an option to change characters to War Like machines ie tanks and such, that would add a ton of replayability IMO. In fact, I think I'll suggest it to them.

sorry for the wall o text

For what it's worth, if you don't enjoy the monastery stuff or supports, you can just skip straight to each key date, giving progression, difficulty, and resource management closer to the traditional Fire Emblem games. There's some brilliant maps with a load of options and different strategies available, so I do recommend trying to push through if that's where your interest lies.

If you want a really fun challenge, give Maddening Mode a shot. There is plenty for people, even if they don't like a lot of the extras.
