As Gamescom 2019 raises its curtains, game news begins to spill out. One of the biggest announcements made on the first day of the European gaming expo was an industry-related one. After years of collaborations between Sony and Insomniac Games, it’s been revealed that Sony is set to acquire the studio in full. Insomniac Games is known for creating PlayStation exclusive series like Ratchet and Clank, Spyro the Dragon, and most recently, Spider-Man for PlayStation 4. From now on, Insomniac will be a first party developer as part of Sony Worldwide Studios.

Huh anyone else thinking they might make a sonic version of Spider-Man game but basically just with sonics world and abilities. Actually maybe insomniac might make it actually good.

They don't give a shit about Sony because they can't compete with Sony. Nintendo hasn't been in competition with Microsoft & Sony since GameCube.
What? Nintendo is very competitive with Microsoft, the Xbox One has only sold a bit more than the Switch and has been out much longer. And the Wii outsold both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Sure, the Switch is nowhere near the PS4 in sales numbers but it hasn't been out for nearly as long either.
Ignoring the Wii U, which failed for reasons that had nothing to do with MS or Sony, they seem to be competing pretty well.

Weird as it sounds, i thought that Sony already owned them. Though this will guarantee any of their games on steam or the Microsoft stores will get promptly yanked, because Kaz is that petty.

Kaz retired.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I don't even understand how Nintendo is a part of this conversation at all. Insomniac has never made a game for a Nintendo system.

Well hardware wise yeah but Microsoft doesn't consider themselves a Console exclusive developer and are mostly focusing on all markets so sales wise console hardware yeah but when you look at the bigger picture well no but for a console only developer with almost no aquired parties they are doing pretty well compared to the rest, you have to give them that despite all the bullshit they've been doing. They know how to market

There's a direct correlation between console sales and game sales (for the most part), and Nintendo has many heavy hitters on the Switch considering it's only been out for 2.5 years that are selling well. Overall I'd put them somewhere inbetween MS and Sony in terms of how well they are doing. How is that not competitive in the bigger picture?

I didn't say they weren't, i even said despite them not having aquired studios they are doing quite well but people should start viewing Microsoft as a universal developer and not a platform developer since that was their goal when they launched the first xbox. Bill Gates even said in his speech back during the xbox 360 launch that it was their idea to combine pc and console gaming and make it one but that hardware wise they aren't just there yet so it was always their intention to do so, so regarding sales wise it should be viewed as Universal over all platforms while Nintendo only sells on one platform. What i said wasn't meant to be seen that Microsof sells more wich they clearly don't but people should start viewing them as a universal platform more but Nintendo is doing well yeah despite them not having aquired studios so i agree with you on that. But i didn't mean them to not be competitive wich they clearly are, probably i used to wrong words that made it seem so that i did mean it that way

what? are you drunk or something? activision has for years hold the rights to all crash and spyro games so insomniac has nothing to do with it at all since ps2 days that they dont own neither, they sold them off to activision for money lol.

Its not like they ever released any game for nintendo ever lol, even if they were independent they never did.

they only games they did for other consoles that arent smartphone games were

Fuse xb360/ps3
Sunset Overdrive xbone/pc
Slow Down, Bull PC
Song of the Deep pc,ps4,xbone

Edge of Nowhere pc
The Unspoken pc
Feral Rites pc

every other game they made is ps exclusive so its not like it changes anything, they never did work with nintendo, they made 1 xb360 game, 2 xbone games and 6 pc games, all else is ps exclsuive anyway so meh this buyout changes nothing.
Insomniac hasn't owned Spyro for like 10+ years now. Activision bought the rights in 2007 or 2008, so yeah, Spyro will still be coming to the Switch in September as planned.

As to the news, the only surprising thing here is Sony hasn't acquired Insomniac sooner. Hell, they used to share an office building with Naughty Dog (owned by Sony since 2000) for like...15-20 years or something, might as well have called them a Sony dev studio if for the fact they didn't make a couple games for other platforms.
thanks for the response, i thought that they would retake the spyro ip back after the other games got released, but with the information that you guys just typed, that actually makes a lot of sense. so again thanks

the question is: will Sony let them have the same developer freedom as when they were on their own. i think not. its gonna be do what sony wants. If devs drop from the team then we will know.

I feel like if sony haven't bought insomniac then ms will most likely acquire them. And that will be a blow to sony since they insomniac makes their spiderman and rac.

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates
