Hacking I accidentally re-installed a game I already had and my save is gone, help please

My kid had Majora’s Mask installed and using FBI i selected the install / delete option and then cancelled the install but the game was gone, so I installed the same .cia again and when I went back to the game, the save game previously there was deleted.

Is there something I can do to restore the previous save game or would FBI or the 3DS have made a backup?

Lastly if I use an utility to restore the previous save game, where would I look for that file on the 3DS SD?

Reinstalling a game CIA will overwrite the save file in-place with a dummy copy that has garbage values.

It does not simply delete the save and makes a new one.

Your (latest) save is permanently eraased even if you looked for it with a data recovery software.

Depending how lucky you are, you might be able to find an older copy of your save. This assumes your 3DS wrote redundant copies of the saves, set them aside and told the SD card to forget listing it, and then wrote newer save files in place.

I’m a little or of my element here, where would I look for possible redundant copies of the save file, the game was Zelda: Majora’s Mask, game completed with all items.
