Mojang has cancelled their ambitious "Super Duper" graphics pack for Minecraft

During E3 2017, Microsoft took to the stage to announce its yearly showcase of new games and content updates. In their lineup, was the "Super Duper Graphics Pack", for Minecraft, which would give the game a 4K graphical makeover, fit with majorly improved graphics, shaders, and lighting. At the time, it was promised for a 2018 release, for Xbox One X and PC, via the Bedrock version. But, after two years, and hardly any updates, Mojang has finally cancelled the project, citing performance issues as the cause. Considered as an "ambitious initiative", the developers found that running the game with such graphics was too demanding on certain devices. As such, the Super Duper Graphics Pack will not see a release, and Mojang will instead focus on "other ways" for fans to experience Minecraft with a new look.

Supergirl on the CW.

Microsoft must have paid her loooooaaaaaaaaads of money to do that Minecraft thing.

They do have a lot of money, though.
u right about the babe part, but I think it wasn't hard to convince her to do a musical number seing as she was in glee, on broadway and did a musical crossover.

It's not very hard to see why Mojang didn't release this.
If you install a shaderpack on the PC version of Minecraft, you're going to need a very powerful computer to have it running at max settings at anything above 60 FPS.
Maybe, though to be fair, some packs, like SEUS, only require a moderately powerful computer. Use Optifine, don't set your render to 64 because there is no good reason to do that, and it's honestly not that bad. Pretty sure my laptop, with its 4GB RAM and Pentium iGPU and all, got at least something playable at medium settings. Better framerates than Fortnite mid-combat, at least...

For Win10 PC users, there's Shiftery Shaders which looks pretty darn nice, and for Xbox there's some spooky thing you can do but I dunno how to do it

No, it does not. Trust me.
And by max I meant 32 chunks (maximum in vanilla Minecraft).

I mean why is this a thing?

It looks really really nice.

Microsoft are making an official RTX raytracing option but I personally think that the one I showed a video of looks even better.

Yeah, I noticed that today. Of course that one looks better; it's Java Edition. If I'm not mistaken, they're making RTX for Bedrock Edition. (Good luck running that on mobile.)
It still seems odd to me, but apparently removing corners of your screen doesn't seem at all odd to most people, so...
Rounded screen corners feels like a standardization nightmare just waiting to happen! It's not that it looks bad. Because it doesn't look bad.
...weird flex, but okay.

I would have thought that the newer version of a game would be the better looking one.

What corner rounding are you meaning?

Phone screens. A lot of newer phones have screens going all the way to the edges, and they have rounded corners, so the screen corners are rounded as well. Maybe there is a standard for how many pixels to shave off, I don't know.

And I've only ever played Bedrock on Win10, so of course I would think it's inferior. It's not targeted for PCs. (It's terribly janky on PCs, as a result.)
