Cadence of Hyrule now has a demo on the Nintendo Switch eShop

Cadence of Hyrule, the rhythm-based crossover between Crypt of the Necrodancer and the Legend of Zelda launched back in June, shortly after this year's E3. If you haven't already gotten around to trying the game out, Nintendo has just uploaded a free demo to the Nintendo eShop, so that players can get a taste of the action. To celebrate the demo, Nintendo has posted an accolades trailer, showing off some gameplay, alongside a handful of positive quotes from critics. Cadence of Hyrule is currently available digitally on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $24.99.

I enjoyed the game and I 100% it, but I can see the demo turning more people off than getting them interested. My nephew tried it out and he kept complaining that it was too hard and he died a million times. His dad tried too and he had no sense of rhythm and also died a few times and then gave up immediately. This game wasn't made for children because it forces you to learn how to play correctly or lose. A demo will have someone try it, die a few times, and then never bother with it again. A full out purchase would probably force people to get good out of spite and then they will truly enjoy the game once they realize how to play.

Or you can just turn the rhythm part off. That's what I did because I wanted it to be more similar to an old school Zelda game & did not buy it for the rhythm aspect. My only complaint about the game is the auto attack, wish it could be toggled off.

I like rhythm. I like Zelda. I've had this game in sight but I make $9.25 an hour and am saving for a car. Games have to REALLY sell me to get me to bite

You know, I remember when games had demos BEFORE release dates. This is so backwards.

That stopped because it generally led to less sales, not more.
Demos are actually terrible business apparently. But releasing them a month or two after a game releases seems pretty smart.

"I wish I could turn off everything that makes this game what it is"
Just go play one of the many existing Zelda games.

Well I don't know anything about sales. All I know is I don't usually buy a game I don't know enough of and a demo helps me decide. Is not my fault or theirs if I don't like the game. But at least if I'm confident in liking it, I will pay full price instead of waiting for a discount. Not that it matters to them I guess since this is the way things are. :ninja:

Game probably didnt sell well

Demo is the last resort to convince a few people to buy
Wrong it was the biggest selling switch game for the whole of June in Japan.

It was the 3rd best selling switch game for the whole of June in America

And it was also the 3rd best selling switch game for the whole of June in Europe.

The game is actually selling better than Nintendo and Brace Yourself Games had anticipated.

I think its like a way to advertise the game a second time?

For me this demo accomplished what Nintendo wants, even with the game being already released.
I got Crypt of the Necrodancer and I loved it, but after some time it gets very frustrating. I refrained to buy Cadence of Hyrule because I thought it would be just a re-skin, then tried the demo and now I fell in love, the improvements are much much better than I first thought, the pixel art style is gorgeous.
Gonna buy the full version once I finish FE3H.

To be honest I think its fine for children. The game requires some practise at the beginning but after that its eazy peazy. (tip: Use the spear, much easier to kill foes) Geez did you forgot the old games? When you were playing OOT and MM as a kid?

Why the fuck are nintendo so backwards, another demo after the game has already been released.

Or reward paying customers to your premium online service with.... another demo.

Correct me if i am wrong but back in the old days demos were released so you could get a feel what the game is going to be like before it actually came out.

Now we get the likes of ea and activision charging you pre order in order to get "beta" access which is just a fucking demo.

And Nintendo issue demos when its sales start slowing down.

For all those say rhythm sucks. You can just use Fixed Beat Mode. I've 100% it 2 times. Its replayibility is high. Real high, every new save feels like a new game to me.

So tan out of pale

Its more forgiving then CotN

When a developer puts out a demo it also shows that he is proud od his game and believes in its quality (at least I hope so).

I have bought many games because the demo convinced me that it was worth the investment - vanilla Starcraft 2 for example.

I have also dodged many games I would not habe liked in the end because of the demo.

And them there was an era in time that is long forgotten - a time where demo discs where that good that you just kept playing the demos. *looks at stack of psx demo diacs* Good old times.

Edit: Actually the Kill la Kill demo is like the good old times: a nice impression of what to expect of the story mode, a versus mode (ai and human opponent possible) with (almost) full match setting options and 4 (!) out of the 10 characters aviable.
On top of that you can try a „kill 100 enemys“ timeattack challange. Put a few hours into it, sadly the fighting itself was not to my liking.
