Hi, i want to launch dsiware in nds form from twilight menu. Looks like it is not possible? How to run them? Only when in cia? Because those nds dsiware were extracted from my own dsi, so i don't have them in Cia form...

GodMode9 can convert DSiWare .NDS files to .CIA files.

I tried SRL scripts to get the DSiWare from the .BIN files which the DSi creates on exporting. Both failed for me.
  • .BIN → SRL scripts → .CIA
  • .BIN → SRL scripts → .NDS → GodMode9 → build .CIA
Both gave seemingly valid .CIA files; installation was successful showing the correct name and animated "banner". But none of the games booted – just white screens. I never found out what the problem is… but I was able to get it working by replacing the installed .APP files on [2:]SYSNAND TWLN with those from the DSi NAND image.

Now my DSiWare is working and I have created working CIAs from the installed titles. More people have run into that problem (please search for the word "white" on pages 3 and 4 in the SRL scripts thread) and the only "solution" given was like "Just do some illegal downloads!!"

I have said it before and repeat it here: My method worked for me, but it is ridiculously long and over-complicated and just feels wrong. This is why I don't post it in detail into the forum.

Hi.
Firstly, I wanted to thanks all of you guys. There some amazing pros on this forum.
The 3ds.guide also, is unbelievable. Buyed a new new 2ds, latest firmware. I followed the guide. Didn't buyed a flashcart. It was VERY long with a lot of SD in/out. At a time, I thought it was going to fail, because any change or error in such a long process could fail, and as a noob I would not be able to detect it. BUT. It worked! Took around an hour, and everything is as expected. The only improvement I could see is a longer guide to do everything offline (you can figure everything out by going to the differents githubs, but with a quality guide it would be easier). Wish I had a spare 3ds to try all of those githubs tools...

That said, I have a few weird questions.
I want to transfer a save file from a japanese english patched eshop 3DS CIA game (also have .3DS version if that does matter) to a japanese unmodified 3ds (that have the legit original game buyed on japanese ehsop).
So, is it possible to export save data without transfering the whole system on an unmodified 3DS ?
If not, I (think I) know that you can do system transfer from CFW 3DS to non-CFW 3DS. You retain everything legit, and lose everything else. Would that work in my case (and is there a way to not lose any data on my source CFW 3DS) ?
Another question: everywhere I looked, it seems that in order to change region to access a different region's eshop, you need and old 3ds or a low firmware version. Is that true ?

You can backup the save in Checkpoint or JKSM on the hacked 3DS, use ntrboot flashcart to launch GodMode9 on the other 3DS, chainload boot Luma3DS through GodMode9, and then restore the save using Rosalina Menu / Homebrew Launcher / 3DSX version of the save manager.

Your unhacked 3DS will have temporary custom firmware for that session until it's turned off.

Backup all your saves + extdata with a save manager, and all titles into CIAs using GodMode9. Reinstall CIAs with FBI and restore the saves + extdata.

Region changing with access to the new region's eShop is possible but complicated to do on the o3DS / o3DSXL / o2DS. Lower 3DS firmware version will not help.

For the n3DS / n3DSXL / n2DSXL, region changing with access to the new region eShop's is considered practically impossible. *

* There's [supposedly] a way to do it, but you will need an actual JPN 3DS/2DS to system transfer your JPN NNID over to the region changed target system.

Nice! Seems the way to go for my needs. Thanks. I have a Sky3DS+, but if my searches are correct, it can't be used to boot on ntrboot. Am I right ? If so, I need to buy another flashcart. Do you have any advice ? R4i GOLD ?

There was Homebrew alternative to Pokemon Bank a while back. It allowed you to store and transfer Pokemon and even cheat some in. It worked for the DS and 3DS games. I tried to search for it, but couldn't find it. Is it still around and working on the latest version of Luma?

I don't want to make my console a brick :) thank you in advance!!!

First of all: Installing custom firmware does not brick a 3DS.

Obviously Nintendo does not want the Virtual Console emulators to load arbitrary ROM files you provide.

While there have been exploits to trigger some sort of side loading, this is probably not possibly with recent firmware versions. I don’t know of any method for loading GB(C) ROMs not involving running custom code on the console itself.
Maybe userland homebrew access is enough for running a Game Boy emulator. Opposed to full CFW, userland homebrew does absolutely no permanent changes on the internal NAND.

The following possibilities come to my mind:
  • Full custom firmware: B9S + Luma: https://3ds.hacks.guide/
  • Userland Homebrew: Steelhax for recent firmware (I do not know if the emulator(s) work properly without CFW)
  • A DS-mode flashcart like the R4i Gold 3DS Plus. Running Gameyob from the flashcart works perfectly.

EDIT: Reading the Anemone thread. Will try putting them in SD card.

I'm looking for a way to install downloaded themes on 3DS using Anemone. Is there any way for me to create a QR code for them without uploading them somewhere? Or should I just use Howling Theme Tool and create a .cia to install these themes? What's the best approach?

Also, is there a good tutorial for creating themes available somewhere?

I have a 2ds with CFW which is now water damaged and doesn’t turn on. Is there any way I could extract the game saves from the memory card?

Only if you can obtain the NAND file (movable.sed) that controls encryption for the Nintendo 3DS folder.

Here's someone in a similar situation.

The rundown.
  1. Get the movable.sed from previously backed up SysNAND *.bin image or essential.exefs using ninfs.
  2. Conditional: If the movable.sed's KeyY does not match set with the <ID0> subfolder because of Format System Memory and System Transfer was not involved where the 2DS received that Nintendo 3DS folder from another system, make corrections to the KeyY using the CTRTransfer (Type D9) - Fix movable.sed KeyY. This requires backing up your donor 2DS/3DS system's SysNAND *.bin image for temporary injection of the foreign movable.sed, and restoring the SysNAND after all the titles & saves + extdata have been backed up.
  3. If the 2DS movable.sed cannot be sourced, recreate a dummy copy with the exact 16 bytes KeyY by finding a 3DS buddy who added your 2DS before to their Friends List, have him/her dump your Friend Code info to get the 1st half of the KeyY with seedminer, and then bruteforce the 2nd half at bruteforcemovable.com.

Hello, I'm totally noob in these things and today I "hacked" my 3ds the first time in my life. So I followed the 3ds.hacks.guide exactly and everything went fine, from start to finish. And I apologize if my question feels stupid, but uh.... how do I download and install games how that my 3ds is hacked?

This depends what kind of games.
Do not ask where to download game illegally here on the forum – this is against the rules.

Try using JKSM or Checkpoint - export the save on one console, move the JKSM folder to the other console's SD card and import the save. Not sure if being different regions will affect it but if it is possible this is the way to do it.

Hi there. So trying to help my nephew long distance put cfw on his 3ds. I had no real issues doing mine but it's been awhile. He was following the main guide and got to some part where now none of his retail pre-cfw games (cart based games) save files are showing up. Is there a step that he would have for some reason moved them off and then later back? Or there's an option to do a clean install and he may have accidently chosen that option?

He just wants to try and get his save files back on, wherever it went to. Can he finish the cfw install and then just drag/drop his save files back?

I have Luma installed and i believe it's the latest version, but it's been years since I've really tinkered with my 3ds. I want to install Sharkvive to download cheats on my games, but FBI isn't anywhere on my home screen, and the Homebrew Channel just crashes as soon as a boot it. I don't have any way to install .CIA's, through a saved file OR a QR code.

I'm kinda clueless at this point, but all I really need is FBI, I think. For a long time I've just been using the FreEshop for games and haven't needed to install any other .CIA's.

TL;DR: On Luma, no FBI or Homebrew Channel, and I want to install a .CIA, but I don't know how.

Hold Select on boot, and tell us what Luma version you have (will show on the Luma settings screen)

I don't understand how this is possible.

Except for certain titles that make their saves on SD card like Monster Hunter Generations or Minecraft, your nephew's gamecarts should have kept their save data on their respective cartridges.

Can you double check whether or not he has digital or HOME Menu versions of those games that were downloaded from Nintendo eShop? Also ask him if he performed a Format System Memory right before he hacked his 3DS. This might explain his lost game collection: everything was unknowingly erased.
