Odd. So I found the part on a PCB
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/56/Nintendo-DS-Mk1-Motherboard-Bottom.jpg
Where the GBA slot is then up and right a bit from that.

Not sure what it is as I can't read the numbers, and have not got one of mine to hand to have a look myself. Below it says RTC.

It is not a commonly damaged, faulty or otherwise replaced chip. Why do you think you need to replace it?

I am not sure what I am looking at there.

The part is there, I don't see any blown out parts of the top, no soot marks below, the joints look OK (not sure about the joints of X2 next to it but U4 looks aligned well and properly joined), and while it is a bit low resolution I can't see any shorts either. It could still have died and not shown anything externally but again I am not sure what you would have read to make you think that chip is the culprit.

When you say first 5 questions I assume that means when you start it up and it asks for date/time, birthday, favourite colour and all that?

I merged your threads together as they are all about the same thing.

Anyway a run down of what I understand here.

You have an original aka phat DS.

It was reset but now fails before it finishes asking you about the date, time, birthday, favourite colour...

For some reason you think this failure involves the chip U4 on the DS. For others playing along if you have the motherboard with the GBA and DS slot side facing you, DS slot side up it is just right and up from the GBA slot (the massive connector thing dominating that board).
At this point I don't have exact numbers on the chip.

What did you read that told you this chip is the reason for the failure? Normally we deal with broken ribbons, bad batteries, broken switches, bad fuses, and cracked screens. We don't have many things that do component level diagnostics on the DS and I had not seen anything before saying that. If you have not taken it apart to see then this could be a wild goose chase (مُحاوَلة عَقيمة?) and it could be something else entirely.
If it is the real time clock (RTC) chip then it makes sense that it could be that but again it is not something I have ever seen mentioned in DS repair before. My first thoughts on it failing at that point would be to wonder if the firmware got corrupt somehow and now the reset can't handle it. ppflash from https://www.darkfader.net/ds/ would be where I head then. Though I would also try to get a flash cart that bypasses the DS firmware to boot from that (some use a hidden extra mode to boot into that and bypass the main menu ) to see if that works, at which point you could also try the flashme removal tool.

Also as most people seem not to like the original DS models and I routinely still pick them up for £5 a go (I even got a broken hinge DS lite for £1 and some change the other day) then most don't spend too much effort fixing them either as replacement is so easy, though if you are in Libya I can appreciate that might be harder.

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you can find enough for it

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.
