Sakurai to showcase in-depth gameplay of Dragon Quest Hero for Smash, 4.0 patch releases Wednesday

As revealed at this year's E3, The Hero from the Dragon Quest series is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Tomorrow, director Masahiro Sakurai will be providing a 22-minute look at the latest DLC character, and will reveal when you can play as The Hero. During the announcement, Nintendo of Europe also mentioned that any replays you might have saved prior to version 3.1.0 will not work with the upcoming 4.0.0 patch, unless you convert them to video before updating. In addition, Nintendo accidentally let it slip when version 4.0.0 would be releasing, in a now-deleted Tweet that said the patch, and likely the Dragon Quest Hero along with it, would launch on July 31st.

Dragon Quest is too influential to Japan to NOT be included. It only makes sense. I'm sure a majority of people in the west, myself included, care about playing as Banjo far more, but I can easily understand why so many are excited for "The Hero". If we're going for a "who's who" of iconic video gaming, he's a pretty solid choice.

I'll just wait for Captain Commando, Klonoa and Rent a Hero heh.
I am looking forward to the dragon quest hero seems unique enough and its good to see more than one echo fighter for one character for once.
Id hope they just keep adding fighters and content for as long as the switch is around.

You think if Ultimate hadn't reused as many Smash 4 assets as it did and didn't dump Trophies we would have gotten the game this decade?

There are also characters that just have no business around. Looks at Corrin menacingly
Corrin is fine. The animations and the way Corrin plays is pretty cool. It's just the stigma was because it was "another FE character".

I don't mean that Corrin is boring to play (as that's subjective), what I say is that the character doesn't deserve a roster spot because it's rather irrelevant in video game (or Nintendo) history. When I say "Smash Bros." you don't think of Corrin.

Where do they get their characters from? So random. What's next, Fighter from Final Fantasy 1?
Yawn a generic sword user appears.

Where the fuck is Banjo. Just delete this trash and bring out the real character

"Gordon Who? What's next, the Everquest boxart mage? Where's Clannad?"

They should restart the series after this title. Far too many characters.

I could say the same about MUGEN, but that's still going. Not as strongly as it used to 10 years ago, but there's still a lot of stuff out there!

Here's the bottom line: you want Goku, Sol from Guilty Gear (he'd be more badass of a guest than Hero, IMHO, but I'm more biased towards Guilty Gear, admittedly, and want the tracks in Smash Ultimate!), Sans from Undertale, *insert every person's want for a character in a Smash game*, be satisfied with what's there for MUGEN, or make your own damn game. They already "said that they've chosen who's going to be DLC", and unfortunately, it's probably not featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series in what would be the ultimate opportunity for Dante and Bayonetta to square off with each other!

I think everyone needs to remember that crossover events aren't always going to please everyone. People wanted the X-Men and the Avengers to crossover in the MCU, and now we're not gonna see Steve Rogers and/or Tony Stark alongside Wolverine, Colossus, Deadpool (remember when he was a serious character?), Night Crawler, Storm, Dazzler, and more stand up against Dr. Doom, Magneto, Apocalypse, Thanos, Sabretooth, etc. in the MCU proper. Just be grateful that Smash Bros. is still a thing unlike Marvel Vs. Capcom regardless of what the rumors say. If you're thinking MVC4 will be a thing, I wouldn't get your hopes up to save yourself from the pain of disappointment. I would love it to come back, but nowadays, it's just never gonna replace MVC2, IMO.

So, you think that Fire Emblem should have been buried in the same graveyard as Star Fox, F-Zero, Advance Wars, etc.?

I remember when I was trying to get Sonic and Tails in Melee back in the day because I was a kid who wanted more characters. As it turns out though, Sega was still clinging to the Dreamcast as a last hope of returning to their glory days at the time before becoming just another game publisher.

What I said is in regards to Corrin's relevance, not Fire Emblem's relevance. Specially seeing the franchise's popularity is on the rise since Awakening and thanks to Smash. There should be (and will be) more than one FE rep in whatever comes after Ultimate.

Because we learned nothing from pokemon shield and sword.
Sword & Shield is a different topic altogether; first because Game Freak doesn't have a valid reason for their debacle, as the nothing they've promised has received a notable upgrade, and second because Pokemon's point is to collect those creatures, Smash isn't about having Mario, your neighbor and your dog duking it out.

No one's forcing Pokemon to blurt out a game yearly / every other year, yet they do. On the other side, we have Sakurai's team, and we can see how much effort those guys actually put in their game.
