The Original DOOM trilogy has quietly launched on Switch/PS4/XB1

Launching with little fanfare are the first three DOOM games, in order to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary. Bethesda has brought DOOM, DOOM II, and DOOM 3 to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. They're all currently available to buy digitally, with the first two games costing $4.99, while 3 is priced at $9.99. The first two games are also on both iOS and Android, if you enjoy your classic games on the go.

Celebrate Doom’s 25th anniversary with the re-release of the original Doom (1993). First released in 1993, Doom introduced millions of gamers to the fast-paced, white-knuckle, demon-slaying action the franchise is known for.

Experience the classic demon-blasting fun that popularized the genre home or on-the-go.

Doom (1993) includes:

  • The expansion, Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed, with nine additional action-packed levels
  • Local four-player deathmatch
  • Local four-player co-op
Doom II
Celebrate Doom‘s 25th anniversary with the re-release of Doom II. This beloved sequel to the groundbreaking Doom (1993) gave players the brutal Super Shotgun to bear against deadlier demons, and the infamous boss, the Icon of Sin.

Battle the demon hordes at home or on-the-go on Nintendo Switch.

The re-release of Doom II includes:

  • The Master Levels, 20 additional levels made by the community and supervised by the developers
  • Local four-player multiplayer
  • Local four-player co-op
To save Earth, you must descend into the depths of hell, survive demon hordes, and take part in the fiercest battle ever.

Doom 3
Celebrate Doom‘s 25th anniversary with the release of Doom 3, available for the first time on Nintendo consoles.

In this critically acclaimed action-horror re-telling of the original Doom, players must battle their way through a demon-infested facility before entering the abyss to battle Hell’s mightiest warrior—and put an end to the invasion.

Doom 3 includes the Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Missions expansion packs.

Oh Bethesda, you sure love shoving your crap down our throats. You do something nice like porting over classic games, only to screw the pooch and force your POS account system just to play them offline. Shocking.

Anyone know how to put in a SaveGame/SaveState with EdiZon or Checkpoint??????????

Edit: Figured out a way

When running Checkpoint, go to Doom 1 and Doom 2. Create a New Save. Then take the Save File and put it in the Empty Folder. When you run Checkpoint again, Restore it, and it should be good to go.

So, if you're wanting Doom on your Android phones? Give d-touch a look. Comes with a few source ports (GZDoom, chocolate doom, doomretro) and has more responsive controls. The official port is meh. It runs alright, but the controls are hit or miss.

Never actually sat down and played through any of the Doom games, so this is finally an excuse to. Just bought Doom 1 and played through the first episode on Switch. BNet thing is kind of annoying, but once you sign in it's not really an issue anymore.

Now I'm just hoping we'll get something Quake as well. Like, any of the Quake games, I'd buy in a heartbeat on Switch lol

Various reports coming in that an Internet connection is required to play Doom 1 and 2 (maybe 3 as well) and on top of that an account on Bethesda.net - verify this before buying.

Edit: Others are now reporting that the Internet connection requirement and Bethesda.net login is a one time thing only. Keep checking the usual places for updates on this.

Either way, the best way to play Doom 1 and 2 on the Nintendo Switch...is via homebrew.

Did they ever fix the crashing problem on this? And does the game crash on L4T-Ubuntu on Switch that anyone who happens to read this can report on?

As for Doom 3, eh...just watch the first two Alien movies!

Naturally I had to buy these, even if I am not the hugest fan of 3, which always felt like a really watered down System Shock to me and not the DOOM I was hoping for. Still none the less, not a worthless game. Needless to say I am still downloading it and have not gotten around to testing it yet.

As for the originals, I was kind of surprised that No Rest for the Living was cut from 2 rather than offered as an addition to the Master Levels. And also, they really should have contacted John Romero and Bucket Head about adding in Sigil as the fifth chapter to Ultimate DOOM. What were they thinking?!?!? Or why not the ability to load wads from DOOMWORLD off your SD card? So much untapped potential.

And why am I forced to sign up and log into Bethesda in order to load up the game? So what happens if the apocalypse happens, how can I play DOOM without the internet? Or what if I don't have access to the internet where I am but want to play DOOM multiplayer in the woods with some mammals or some shit? Also, what's up with the brightness levels? It is clean and clear as far as pictures go, but in order to make it to easily see what is across the room, they have not made it so that all rooms, including the intentionally dark ones, are fully visible no matter where you stand in it. Now had they used something like Crispy DOOM as the source base as this port, then things would have looked a lot better and allowed DOOM to retain more of the horror element it had when through a cathode ray. Oh, and the enemies are a bit glitched here and there and do not respond in the maps as they should. Not a total deal breaker, but if this were Donkey Kong, it would REALLY stand out.

Regardless of all my woes above, I am still very happy with my purchases. It controls well in handheld mode and with the Pro Controller, and I am enticed by the multiplayer capabilities using the switch's controllers for two player. It is somewhat difficult for my huge hands, but I am thinking they might work well for my nieces.

I cannot see how some users are reporting you don’t need to log in to play doom 3? you clearly do! it asks for an account set up with log in soon as it says “press any button” you cannot get round this, it then checks with your active Nintendo online account for your ID through an active internet connection and there is no other way of playing it also doom 3 checks your Nintendo account details , your user details every time you boot the game back up from the menu. I bought the game myself I have seen it and I had to set up an account myself to play it. Unless the uk version of eshop is different but I doubt it?

The controls are butchered. There's no was to have a real "classic" doom control experience, despite the games name, unless you're playing split screen using a single joycon. All the one player modes require dual joycons or pro controller and use the much more "modern" (and impossible for me to use) twin stick control scheme. I'm mighty pisses off, I am.
