Report: Nintendo will be allowing free Joy-Con repairs, will refund those who paid a fee previously

The Switch Joy-Con drift drama saga continues. Nintendo's official statement earlier today wasn't the only new update to the situation, as a report from Vice has revealed that an internal memo within Nintendo is calling for all customer support agents to allow for Joy-Cons to be sent in for repair, free of charge. Not only that, but should you need to send in your controller for repair, representatives will no longer require a proof of purchase, nor will they still have to be under warranty. Previously, owners were required to show proof that they purchased the Joy-Cons new, and once they got past the general troubleshooting with a support agent, they were then allowed to send their non-functioning Joy-Cons to Nintendo, along with $40, in order to be repaired. Additionally, if you did happen to already send your Joy-Cons in and paid the $40 requirement, you can request a refund so long as you can prove that you had them repaired in the past. Though Nintendo seems reluctant to actually admit anything on the matter, it does appear that they're taking steps internally, to assist customers that have been affected by Joy-Con drift.

It's a bit baffling they weren't free to begin with. How the fuck do you figure an issue with drifting might be the user's fault?

This is why I continue to use Amazon's lovely repair service where you buy an item then return the old one ;)

My drifting issue stopped after I shifted my Switch dock slightly. Though there was a weird period where they drifted way more while attached.

Now that Nintendo does it for free you don't need Amazon

Amazon is still a lot less hassle and probably 10x faster tbh. I dunno if times have changed but last time I sent Nintendo something it took 3 weeks to return.

Oh, myy gosh so wait a sec -i can actually send my baby blue damn joycons to them for they can repair the freaking annoying drift issue it has?? And i have to pay of course 5$ just for it to be sent,...hmm..i would do it buuuuuut i live in an area where people like to steal -especially electronics. So, sometimes it can go good and sometimes it can go poof. So, my best bet is to not sent it out. Do not trust some people in my building -sadly. Until, i find out who the fuck has been doing the stealing, than i'll be good to know and be careful for them, but other than that -i am sadly gonna be stuck with my baby blue joycon drift issue. I mean i did follow a tutorial that a youtuber recommended to do -which is grabbing a air pressured can spray and use it on your switch's joycon to remove any access dirt or anything on it. To see if that maybe the issue, but for me it did work, but didn't fix it in whole. -Yes i've done the trick like 3 times, around the joycons stick ;-;" it still does the drift but not as bad, i am afraid using it much -because it may go back to going banana's. lol.

I wonder if gamestop would actually follow this law and allow me to get the joycon fixed by them for free ;-;" but they're a different company lol.

Where would a person from India send these to? (nintendo does not operate in India but some online retailers sell the console here)

I can see some abuse on this, like people buying damaged joycons and getting them repaired, then selling them as new.

This was something I expected to happen. This is allot cheaper then fighting a law suit with all the negative news around it.
