I have a Wii that I softmodded waaay back in 2009 judging from the SD card files dates. Being so long ago I'm not quite sure how it was originally modded. Judging from some log files I believe I used HackMii v1.2. I used Homebrew Channel with Configurable USB loader to play games. My daughter was trying to get Kirbys Dream Collection working unsuccessfully so I was looking to update something to fix it. I came across Pimp My Wii and it seemed to automatically do just what I needed. So I put it in Apps folder on the SD and ran it from THBC. I told it to update and left everything default. Afterwords I tried Kirby and it actually worked, woo! Problem is next time I turned the Wii on I get a garbled message about system files corrupted. I've tried restarting about 20 times and also tried unplugging. I've tried taking the SD out, and also tried restoring the SD to the original files before I ran Pimp My Wii (I made a backup). I've tried getting into Maintenance. Nothing works.

Any hope at all? My girls had been working on getting Kirby Epic Yarn to 100%, and they were at 98%. They'd be crushed if the Wii is bricked :(

Do you have priiloader/bootmii installed?
I really have no idea, I have not messed with anything since I set it up in 2009. Any way I can tell? It boots right up the Corrupt Files screen, nothing before and no button combination/reset/power buttons seem to have any affect.

Hello.:)

You said you tried to take out the SD CARD and boot your Wii ? You also rewrite it ?

Then maybe try to boot your Wii in Maintenance Mode (if it is possible):

On the HEALTH SCREEN

- PRESS and HOLD "+" and "-" on your Wii mote and proceed.

You maybe come to Maintenance Mode.
Please then access the "System data" and check the Channels for a "?".

Thank you.:)

Firstly, try holding down the reset button as you power on the wii. If you have Priiloader installed, you should get to a menu, and I'm sure you can easily find someone here better qualified than me to explain how to fix it from there. Alternatively, check on the SD card for a file called 'nand.bin' or look for it on any computers you have that you might have used whilst initially hacking the wii. If you find it, you can begin the BootMii restore process. Hope this helps, good luck with your problem.

If you have no sucess to get your Wii back to work,a chance for saving the Kirby Saves (and the other too):

- Please get the SaveManagerGX on the App Folder on yur SD CARD
https://sourceforge.net/projects/savegame-manager-gx/

- Access PRIILOADER while holding RESET and POWER ON your Wii.

- Load the SaveManagerGX (please use Load/Install File)
- Backup your SAVES and get another Wii.

Good Luck.:)

Thank you @KleinesSinchen for the Tip/Advise. :yay:

There is no health warning screen so I don't think I can get into Maintenance Mode. HOWEVER I did hold Reset as ZurvivorZ said and I did get to a PreLoader menu!!! Its Preloader V0.29. I'm sure it predates Priiloader by a while. Any idea where to go from here? In the corner it also says IOS v60 and Systemmenu v449. I read somewhere that it probably updated IOS222/223 which apparently isn't recommended. When I ran Pimp my Wii I told it to update everything because I am a total noob and had faith in the program being smarter than I.

Thanks for your help!!

I did manage to get into Preloader! However I downloaded the Zip for SaveManagerGX, put the wad file in the Apps folder, and went to Load/Install File and it says No SD Card found. Its definitely in there though...

(Corrupted "System files are corrupted") usually means that someone tried a factory reset with Priiloader installed (which removes the Wii Menu, not as in title 00000001-00000002 obviously but the main file of the launcher), and that can be fixed by reinstalling the Wii Menu via wad (remembering to also install a known working IOS, not a stub, for the desired version of the Wii Menu, if you have any doubt of it not being there; the working IOS60 means that you can directly install 4.0 or 4.1)

I read somewhere that it probably updated IOS222/223 which apparently isn't recommended.
Nowadays there's little reason to have Hermes CIOS (conventionally 222/223/224, but that doesn't intrinsecally mean anything), but in 2009 they were probably desirable :)
And remember: only one IOS is running at any time, so all other ones don't affect your system at all

Glad I could help. Hopefully the instructions alexander1970 has posted above can help you, once again, good luck.

Also, thought I'd clarify that Preloader and Priiloader are two separate things, just that Priiloader is a fork of Preloader that was released later. The fact that your home screen shows Preloader means that it's been like this for a while, so you could follow Alexander's instructions and try and update to Priiloader, but be careful. And also, make sure the card you're using isn't an SDHC card, as Preloader won't support those. You can just get a small 2gb sd card off amazon for around 8 dollars, though, or you might even have one lying around.

For what it's worth, I have faith that the Wii isn't bricked. The fact that you can load Preloader is encouraging, and you should be able to get it fixed. Get that save data backed up ASAP, though :)

Ok so I found a 32MB SD Card lying around. I put the SaveManagerGX in the apps folder but got the error Could Not Find any Executable Files in the Root of the SD Card. So I put the files on the root of the card and booted up SaveManager, woo! I chose load from Wii and it came up with about 10 saves but it didnt have quite a few, including Kirby, Mario Kart, New Super Mario bros, ect....So not sure where to go from there. I tried the option in the bottom left to Extract All but then I either get an error screen (I did Custom >> sd:/) or get a dump screen.

Also if I hit any D-pad key it does the same thing, I have to do everything pointing and pressing A on the Wiimote. At first I thought maybe my drive was too small but I tried just WiiSports and didn't work either, it said Error Unable to Copy Data.

Maybe I should just focus on trying to fix the Wii at this point? I'm not sure how to load a new System Menu 4.1

Hello.:)

That looks not good.:(

And to get in to the Maintenance Mode ? Is that possible please ?
Because to see/check if your Wii "Memory" is broken or damaged. If thats the reason then there is maybe no hope to fix your Wii.

Thank you.:)

I checked both items in the Preloader Settings and both bypasses were already disabled regarding the health screen.

I managed to get Multi Mod dol file running in preloader but I have been struggling with getting the wiimote to function in it. I got it to work twice out of maybe 50 attempts. Next time I get it to work I am going to try installing WADs for IOS58, IOS80, and System Menu 4.3U. I don't have a GameCube Controller. Is there a better WAD installer that I could boot from Preloader?

You can try the Wii Mod Lite Tool:

Good Luck.:)

Worked perfect! I flashed IOS58,60, and menu 4.3u from Wii Mod loaded from Preloader and I'm all good. Thanks!! Made a nand backup first thing. And all my game saves were still there!

Thanks for everyone's help!
Good! Glad it works again.
Just to make sure, I suggest to backing up the important saves. A console can fail for no reason any time.

Reinstalling System Menu overwrites Priiloader (or in your case Preloader). I think it would be a good idea to use ModMii to update all softmods to a working/good state – and reinstalling Priiloader.

Having Priiloader (as you have seen when your Wii bricked) is especially important if you cannot install BootMii in boot2.

Have fun.
