Basically I just got a second hand jail broken 3DS. But the owner had no idea how they got the homebrew launcher inside. Is there any way to know this? So I can safely connect to the internet, tie my account and everything

All I know is it's a Majora's Mask Edition, it's on the latest software (11.10.0-43 U) and it has the homebrew launcher v2.0.0 and FBI installed

If it is on the latest firmware probably everything is up to date. But to check, hold Select on boot and see what Luma version you have (in case it is using an emuNAND or something).

Can anyone help me? Homebrew launcher no longer works, and it's been this way for at least a year, but I didn't bother to look for a solution until now since I had never needed to use it. I click the homebrew launcher icon on my home menu, then it just freezes on the black screen with the word "Homebrew" on the top and bottom screens, and it never advances past this. Can someone help fix this for me?

Another thing, I did a system transfer recently and all the games I downloaded from freeshop are gone, how do I get them back?

Yes, I was unclear in my post, I used Luma 9.1 to update system, then I switched to 10.0.1 which seems to work. I keep 9.1 around still though, in case I run into trouble (I don't expect that).

Maybe it would be enough to update the guide, in case the bug is difficult to track down. People on 4.5 should probably update anyway, after hacking the 3ds.

Coming back after years of being away. How can I play roms on the 3ds?
What kind of ROMs… Native 3DS software? DS ROMs or even older?

Use the guide https://3ds.hacks.guide/ to install custom firmware.
  • By installing B9S and using Luma CFW you get the possibility to install 3DS games directly onto the console SD (.cia files).
  • For using DS games from SD there is TWiLight Menu++ as a free alternative to a DS mode flashcart. It has become very good lately. If you prefer a flashcart for DS (non-3DS) games: R4i Gold 3DS Plus (still has some advantages).
  • For GBA games:
    • They can be run natively in AGB_FIRM (Virtual Console injection) (requires CFW)
    • Not yet perfect is GBARunner2 (but it has seen HUGE improvements in the last weeks). GBARunner2 can be used from a DS mode flashcart and from TWiLight Menu++.
  • There are good emulators for various older systems.
Edit:
Flashcarts for the 3DS mode exist (Sky3DS+, Stargate). These are expensive and have a lot of limitations and you will find virtually no help here on the forum if you use one of these and have trouble. "Ditch the Sky3DS+ and install CFW!!1!" is the most common answer to that topic.
– Not my style, but as I do not have one of these expensive carts, I can't help anybody with them –

THANK YOU for your help!! I was able to get it working again with that guide you linked!

Is there such a thing similar to FreeShop anymore? What should I do with my games that I installed previously through FreeShop?

FreeShop no longer works but you can keep playing the games you installed with it.

I need help. I’m on luma v. 10.01 and godmode9 v. 1.8.0. I have games on my ds and they take up space on my as card but they won’t show unless I install them again with fbi but then each game takes double the space. I need to know how to make them show up without installing them again.

Hello folks
I was following the guide posted in another thread

Everything went well and I m at final step "Finalizing Setup" and want to copy my backup.
Unfortunately this does now work as I do not have the folder on my sd card. any ideas?

Copy <date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin, <date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin.sha, essential.exefs, and boot9.bin from the /gm9/out/ folder on your SD card to a safe location on your computer
  • Make backups in multiple locations (such as online file storage)
  • These backups will save you from a brick and/or help you recover files from the NAND image if anything goes wrong in the future

OK, you haven't booted GodMode9 yet. Put the SD Card into your 3DS and hold start while it's turning on. You should boot to GodMode9. If you boot to the home menu, turn off the console and try again. I recommend holding START before turning on the 3DS and holding it until GM9 boots. It'll prompt you to create essential backups and stuff. After that, you're all done!
By default, your console will no longer boot without your SD Card. This can be resolved by using FBI or GodMode9 to copy the boot.firm file from the root of the SD to the root of the SYSNAND. Not boot.3dsx, boot.firm. Boot without the SD, set up Luma, and you're done! You may now boot without an SD.

The issue with them taking up twice as much space is because you aren't deleting the CIAs. Always pick "Install and delete CIA(s)" over "Install CIA(s)". For the other issue, the gift icons should appear when you go to the Home Menu. After installing them, press HOME and unwrap the present.

There's a subreddit dedicated to 3DS piracy. I am not going to link to it, but it's a Google search away.

You can't get them back as they were illegit. In future, don't system transfer. Saves may be recoverable, but that's it.
Make sure you have the boot.3dsx file on the root of your SD and ensure that there is a 3ds folder on the root.
If you have it set up, try injecting HBL into dlplay.

No, the games aren’t showing up I choose install and delete, I’m not an idiot. I need the tickets, the games showed up before, but I did something, and now they don’t show up. Sorry for sounding so harsh.

:!: Reinstalling a .cia file overwrites the save of the game.

If the games show up in Data Management, greyed out and with an "x", the tickets are missing.
In this case generate fake tickets with faketik.
