Cuphead is getting an animated show on Netflix

dmSIDfM.png

When it comes to Cuphead, one of its most-acclaimed features was its animation, which had painstaking levels of effort put in to perfectly mimic the style of retro cartoons. That's why it might be fitting to learn that Netflix has will be making an animated series based on the franchise. Titled "The Cuphead Show", the cartoon is currently in production at Netflix, with King Features Syndicate in charge of the animation. Netflix says the animated series will, "expand the world and characters of Cuphead, with an animation style inspired by the classic Fleischer cartoons from the 1930s". Dave Wasson (previous works include modern Mickey Mouse Shorts) and Cosmo Segurson, (recently worked on Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling) will be co-executive producers on the show.

"inspired"...
99% that they will use standard (modern) animation techniques instead of the '30 ones, so probably the style and the overall quality will be lower compared to the videogame hand-drawn graphics...
That's pretty much a given. No animated series could feature the quality of animation shown in the game without a Disney feature budget and hefty development time. I'd wager this will be your usual Flash based, motion tweened animation, which can be great if done well (see the recent Mickey Mouse cartoons).

Neat. I love old Fleischer animations, it's really cool to see what they could accomplish in the 20s-30s so animation that's "inspired" by that is ok by me.

While the entire show won't be hand drawn on paper like the game, they're still going to be "hand-drawn" digitally by Netflix's animation team. Probably won't be as good, but will probably be better than you think.

I haven’t actually played Cuphead, but I do have him in Garry’s Mod, does that count?
Just kidding, I wasn’t expecting this. What exactly would the show’s story be based on? The game, or just new stuff?

Much like most people said before me, will absolutely not be on par regarding animation quality to the game, that's a given,
just hope at least it's a decent show without 'quality entertaiment' like things related to butt/twerking you pretty much see in any newer cartoon.
Still, gimme all the Cala Maria you can give me.

Oh god, please don't let this suffer from Dragonball Syndrome where the animation looked great hand drawn, and then modern animation techniques made it look like complete garbage.
Aside from that I'm super pumped to watch this :D

Really curious about this to be honest ! I haven't played the game yet (and don't know if I will one day, it's not really my cup of tea, yes, pun completely intended) but always find it interesting when people try to recreate this old feeling old cartoons and games have, but using modern means.

Huh, neat. Cuphead has potential to work really well as an animated show.

One boss each episode as a monster of the week thing and the run and gun levels as downtime episodes? I could see it work out.
