No since cfw is always illegal in nintendo's eye and they will always do everything in their power to stop hacks.

As others have mentioned then modern devices are able to run a lot of code in the background, and modern devs are also pretty good at obscuring checks done such that it takes hugely complex analysis to find them all and have them return good values, possibly more than can be done in a timeframe before they release the next firmware and it starts all over again (to say nothing of being able to make 50 radically different firmwares about as easily as you can make 2 and stack them for launch every 5 days or whatever).
Nintendo has not quite gone there yet (what minimal analysis I have seen, and results in the wild, says we are operating at around 2009 era virus writer levels of trickiness, which is an immense step up from where they were in 2009 but different topic there) but between apathy from firmware devs, minimal interest in the Switch, paid online and all the rest I am not going to bank on it happening too soon. Indeed I would sooner bet on the online services being replicated by a third party and people opting for that one instead.

As long as you use your own personal backups in xci with the required certificates on sxos that’s the best your going to get going online, if you want to stay safe.

If you're gonna go through all that why not just play your own damn games in ofw mode

That's just dumb

Not just on modern gaming devices. Not being able to play online on the official servers when using a pirated copy of the game goes way back. If I remember correctly, Quake III (released back in 1999) would require a valid serial number entered to allow online play on their server. If two people used the same serial, it would get banned. Keygens existed, but were useless since the server used a white list to compare against.

Not really, agreed it sounds dumb in principle but if you dump all your own games on one micro sd card you don’t have to carry all your games around with you, it makes sense also you can select your online games and use those as well. My switch goes everywhere with me and I use the trains regularly during the nighttime life so it really works for me I would be lost without sxos. I’m just saying if you want online gaming 100% safe on cfw on the go without cartridge or eshop account games, that’s your only safe option.

To be fair people said the same thing about 3DS and look where we are now.

I would never say never. But what it is known is the checks nintendo has in place are the best they ever had.

I don't think anybody said the same thing about the 3DS, since CFW-detection and CFW bans largely didn't exist on the 3DS. The 3DS also didn't really have a system in place to block online play with pirated games.

The Switch is a different animal.

This was way early in the 3ds hacking days. Like gateway days people were saying this. But i do believe that was due to public headers and stuff.

Yes, this is correct. With the 3DS in the early days, it was always, "You need a private header to play online," not, "Playing online with pirated games is not possible." On the Switch, it's not possible, and it almost certainly never will be. I'm also not counting 1:1 XCI backups of your own cartridge of the same game, which is technically a way to play online with a game backup, and that also carries a ban risk.

If your online play requires connecting to Nintendos servers, you will always have a ban risk. Doesn’t upset me at all either. Cheating with online games just ruins online at any rate.
